The fifth volume of equipment information (author's original)

At your request, I will publish some information about this book here and can answer some questions here.

Let’s first talk about the warship information that appeared on both sides in the Caspian naval battle in "Burning, Legend in the Cloud". The following information is completely original by Fengrui, please indicate it if you reprint it.

In terms of the British Navy, the flagship was the heavy cruiser of the York class. It was the first ship of the heavy cruiser of the York class. Only two battleships of this class were built, the York and the Exeter.

Due to the restrictions on the construction of battleships by the Washington Treaty, the 10,000-ton cruiser loading 203mm main gun has become the best choice for compensation for the navy of various countries and has been welcomed by the British Navy.

This type of warship is classified as a first-class cruiser in the classification of cruisers in the London Naval Treaty, also known as a heavy cruiser.

However, when designing and building a "York"-level heavy patrol, it was the time when the UK was calling for a cut in naval funds. Under such pressure at home, the British Admiralty decided to build a first-level shrinking heavy patrol.

Simplify the four 203mm turrets of ordinary models to three, which can not only reduce construction costs, but also ensure the number of cruisers in the fleet, and ensure the overseas interests of Britain.

So the "York"-class heavy cruiser was born. Since the tonnage of the warship was strictly limited, it was not a qualified heavy cruiser. At least the author believes that building such a first-class cruiser is a waste of resources.

The standard displacement is limited to 8,200 tons of York's basic structural design, and the tonnage is only more than 50 tons when it is completed.

The total length is 175.25 meters, the width reaches 17.37 meters, and the full-load draft is 6.17 meters. The standard displacement is 8,250 tons, and the full-load displacement is 10,350 tons.

It is equipped with 8 oil-fired boilers and 4 Parsons gear reduction steam turbines, with a total power of 80,000 axes and horsepower, a maximum speed of 32.3 knots, four-axis and four-pulp propulsion, and a range of 10,000 nautical miles at a speed of 14 knots.

From a heavy cruiser, her speed and range are quite satisfactory.

But the next thing is a depressing place. It is really surprising that such a heavy cruiser with a full load drainage of 10,000 tons is not as good as the light cruiser produced in the UK in the later period.

The thickest part of the entire ship's armor is only 121 mm. Not only that, this main armor belt does not cover the entire ship, but only covers the warship boiler compartment and power compartment, which is almost one-third of the entire ship's area.

This is the so-called key defense strategy advocated by the British and American navies, which is actually a plan developed to reduce the weight of the armor.

Although she achieved the protection ability of other 203 artillery heavy cruisers of the same era, according to the author's view, the "York" was sunk in Crete by three human-controlled blasting boats of the Italian Navy in history, and this protection method should bear certain responsibilities.

The Yorker installed six 203mm mkviii naval guns, which were the standard naval guns of British heavy cruisers during World War II. They weighed 17 tons and had 50 diameters, fired capped armor-piercing bullets and grenades, with an initial velocity of 855 meters per second, a range of 28,030 meters, and a lifespan of 550 rounds.

Six cannons were installed in three double turrets. Unfortunately, these heavy artillery turrets were only 25mm armor. I really don’t know what the British thought. If they encounter bombardment from warships above cruisers, the protection of that turret is almost zero.

This class of warships also installed 4 MKV-type secondary guns, with a caliber of 101.6 mm and a range of 15,020 meters. They are a kind of gun that is neither high nor low. They are generally used as anti-aircraft guns at the "York" class.

As air defense firepower, this class of ships also installed two 2-pound Mkii type machine guns. In the early days of World War II, this gun was proved to be outdated waste, so it was later replaced with multi-combined ping-pong cannons and 40mm Bofos machine guns. However, at the time of this article, the Yorker had not yet been replaced with those new anti-aircraft guns, and only two 20mm machine guns were installed on the edge of the bridge.

This class of warships is also equipped with 533 mm torpedoes. It has two triple torpedo launch tubes, which are placed on both sides of the battleship chimney.

Finally, there are aviation facilities. The York class is loaded with two "Fairy" iiif reconnaissance aircraft equipped with rotary aircraft catapults.

This is the basic information of the heavy cruiser "York", which can give you a general understanding of the British flagship in this article.

I will find time to introduce other weapons to you, but today's time is limited, so I have to continue another day...
