Chapter 525: Understanding of Performance (Part 2)

"This is just my own statement. If you think Korean actors are not good, you can change them to metaphors that you think are suitable for. The truth is the same."

It was quite strange. Facing Han Yu's tentative question, Ha Zhengyu looked a bit like he was answering everything. While squinting his eyes and smoking a cigarette, he spoke to Han Yu very directly and explained: "Although the performance is a performance, in the play, the role you play is a living person.

What an actor wants to play is not just the character and behavioral style marked on the script.

Those are just the outer skins of the characters.

The inner things of the characters, those characteristics that are not marked in the script, and the ‘flesh and internal organs’ that the characters must be as ‘living people’ are all manifestations of the actors.”

"Didn't the characteristics marked on the script...?"

Suddenly, a thoughtful look appeared on Han Yu's face.

"……Um."

He responded vaguely because he was holding a cigarette in his mouth. Then Ha Zhengyu glanced at Han Yu who began to think about himself, sniffed, and continued: "As an actor, of course, you can't act according to the script just by just doing it, because the script was written by the screenwriter, and the screenwriter is also a human, and human thinking has limitations.

In the play, every character is a living person, and they all have their own lives. The screenwriter is actually constructing the character's personality and behavior based on their personal imagination. But as I said before, the screenwriter is also a human being, and he is a single person.

They cannot understand the feelings of each character in the play, so they can only rely on their own imagination.

Imagination often means that there are many unrealistic aspects.

Of course, I don’t say that the imagination of an actor is more realistic or richer than that of a screenwriter. But at least, we cannot rely on the screenwriter’s imagination to play the role alone. We have to ‘think’ ourselves. In the play, we are no longer ourselves, but that role. We have to learn to stand from the perspective of that ‘person’ and think about what he really looks like.”

Subconsciously frowned and pondered for a moment, Han Yu immediately asked Ha Zhengyu with a serious look on his face and said, "So, senior, what exactly is the 'fruit and internal organs' that the character I play is lacking?"

"Standing, sitting, movement."

It was very straightforward. Ha Zhengyu held a cigarette in his mouth and spit out a series of words.

"Standing posture...sitting posture, and movements?" Han Yu frowned and blinked, looking at He Zhengyu with a little puzzled look.

"Um."

Nodding and stretching out his fingers to squeeze the cigarette away, Ha Zhengyu exhaled two faint smoke from his nose, and turned to look at Han Yu and explained: "I said before that those characters are 'living people', but in tradition, the biggest mistake many actors make when performing performances is that they often ignore the role of time and lifestyle, and even personal experiences and personalities on those characters."

"……What's the meaning?"

"To put it simply, Korean actors, do you think that the voices of a middle-aged man of forty generations and a young man of twenty generations will be the same?"

As Ha Zhengyu spoke, Han Yu, who was sitting beside him, suddenly showed a little stunned look on his face.

Because I don’t know if it was Han Yu’s own illusion, just now Ha Zhengyu talked about “forty generations” and “twenty generations”, Han Yu heard Ha Zhengyu’s voices change differently.

During the forty generations, his voice was even lower than his current one, while during the twenty generations, his voice was strangely clearer.

Suddenly, Han Yu seemed to finally understand something, looked at Ha Zhengyu with a little amazement and abruptness, and murmured: "What do you mean... Because everyone is different in age, the physical condition we want to perform is also different?"

"Well, that's about that." Ha Zhengyu nodded and then continued: "But it's not just because of age. Every one in the world is an independent individual, experience, occupation, personality, and relationship with others are all different.

A cunning person and a simple person have a somewhat different tone when they speak.

Similarly, a lawyer and a businessman, due to their professional experience and needs, not only their tone of speaking, but also some of the words are different.

A serious problem for some young actors now is that they often do not realize that when they perform, they put their voices, movements, and postures into the roles they want to play.

I once watched a young actor's performance, and everyone's evaluation of him was pretty good, but he had a plot in that drama, which was when he needed to play the protagonist in high school. In that plot, in addition to his hairstyle, costume and face, his voice, tone and expression were exactly the same as himself ten years later.

In a sense, this is already an alternative "broken".

In fact, I usually oppose such performances that violate age, especially when the actors have insufficient acting skills.

From young to old age, his tone, expression, gait when walking, and even standing posture are different. These are all places that require the actors to carefully understand."

"So...my problem is that I ignore the standing posture, sitting posture...and movements that 'Wu Liwen' should really have?"

Han Yu nodded thoughtfully, and then he asked He Zhengyu again, with a different kind of seriousness in his expression.

Before he knew it, Han Yu had already entered the working state of discussing scripts and dramas with Zhen Xiuwan and others.

When he heard Han Yu ask this, He Zhengyu turned his head and looked at him, nodded and replied: "I have studied many people in different professions who are different in life.

The difference here is not just behavior, but also some subtle professional habits.

The profession of writer is also one of my research objects.

I don’t know if you have noticed the Korean actor himself. Don’t you think the role you play is actually not like a writer at all?

I understand that for the sake of image, the stylists in the crew usually design the character styles as handsome as possible. Korean actors, your styling in the play is really not like a writer who works in writing.

But this is the reason for the stylist. The problem I want to say is... Even if it is apart from factors such as clothing, hairstyle, etc., the role you played by Korean actors still does not look like a writer should have.

In my research, including by observing some of my writer friends, I found that as a profession that has been sitting in front of a computer for a long time, writers actually have some subtle career characteristics.

For example, in standing posture, they actually have a slight hunchback, at least they won’t stand so straight like a Korean actor in the play.

There is also the problem of sitting posture, which is different according to everyone's habits. But the same point is that when you sit in front of a computer, you are sitting in an extremely straight position. If you are a person who sits at a computer desk all year round, it is generally difficult to maintain such a standard sitting posture.

Finally, there is a little problem with action.

When you type in Korean actors, the action is not like a writer who is skilled in typing, and the same is true when you perform with other actors.

I remember right, actor Huang is your sister in the play, the sister who grew up since she was a child. Your identity in the play is a very familiar brother and sister.

However, although laymen may not be able to see it, they can definitely find it as long as they are professional actors.

Korean actor, when you face actor Huang, you still have a vague sense of restraint in your actions. Maybe it is because of your close sister? Can’t completely let yourself enter the role?

I believe that Brother Chi Sheng and Actor Huang should have seen your problem, but because it is also because of being close, I am just embarrassed to tell you."

As he said that, Ha Zhengyu slowly let out a breath of smoke from the gap between his lips, and looked at Han Yu seriously and continued: "But no matter what...Actor Han, your acting skills are not very good, this is an undeniable fact."

It was still so direct in his speech, but this time when Han Yu heard Ha Zhengyu say this, his mood was completely different from before.

The whole person pursed his lips silently for a while, and then he raised his hand and supported his forehead slightly, his eyes closed as if he was tired. In response, a touch of unconcealed depression flashed across his face.

From an ordinary person who did not know how to perform at all, to a semi-actor who is enough to cooperate with other professional actors, Han Yu only spent a few months. To outsiders, this is already a very good talent.

But only Huang Jingyin and others from the same crew are more clear. Han Yu has put in a lot of effort to film freely in the crew.

As long as he has free time, he basically holds the script in his hands, whether at home or in the crew.

Even though some of the content of the script was considered to be his creation, even if he had already memorized the plot and lines in the script, he was still thinking about his performance every day and every day.

Because of the performance, Han Yu encountered the first thing he liked to do after he regained his life, and it was also his favorite thing.

This is different from the profession of teachers.

Regarding the identity of a teacher at Seoul University, Han Yu only treated his seemingly more decent job out of a serious and responsible attitude.

But Han Yu treated the performance, or the profession of an actor with complete enthusiasm.

He has always liked to do things like "creation" since before. He watched a TV series, a good work, and a good story, and was formed under the interpretation of his own group of people, which made him feel an unspeakable satisfaction in his heart.

This is also one of the reasons why he is so concerned about the crew.

Although Han Yu was not so arrogant before that he thought his acting skills were comparable to professional actors like Huang Jingyin and others, he was actually quite satisfied with his efforts during this period.

But what I didn't expect was...

In the eyes of others, one's own "satisfaction" still falls into the category of failure.

Ha Zhengyu's words were already simple enough, and Han Yu naturally understood the key points that Ha Zhengyu wanted to tell him.

Indeed, if you think about it carefully, Han Yu found that every problem that He Zhengyu talked about really exists in him.

An actor is not an easy career.

After Han Yu worked on the crew for several months, he realized this more clearly.

Maybe Ha Zhengyu's requirements are a bit too harsh. After all, as Ha Zhengyu said before, let alone a semi-outsider like Han Yu, many of the actors he had seen before could not meet the requirements Ha Zhengyu said.

But.

Even though he knew this in his heart, Han Yu was still filled with an indescribable depression.

Pride not being exposed does not mean that it will disappear. Even Han Yu himself has to admit that there is actually a sense of pride in his heart, and it can even be said to be arrogance.

The inability to complete his own affairs is a blow to those who are proud of themselves, not to mention... While Han Yu heard what Ha Zhengyu said, he couldn't help but think of Ji Sheng, who played the male lead, Cha Daoxian in the crew.

If Chi Sheng and Han Yu were compared together, in terms of appearance, Chi Sheng was far inferior to Han Yu in terms of body shape and handsomeness, not to mention that the age difference between the two seems to be quite small.

So generally speaking, the popularity of the male protagonist Ji Sheng should not be as popular as Han Yu, who is the second male lead.

But in fact, among the fans of their drama, Guangguang is in half with the popularity of the characters, Ji Sheng and Han Yu are even more popular than Han Yu.

Everything is because of Chi Sheng’s superb acting skills.

When the TV series first started, Chi Sheng had a strong contrast with Han Yu's image, and the audience did have a lot of criticisms.

But after this little opinion, all of Chi Sheng's superb performance disappeared, and replaced by the audience's love for Chi Sheng.

The number of episodes of TV series today is usually the first one who has a gossip mentality and a supportive mentality of their artists has no patience to watch it again. Among the audiences who stayed, at least most of them were attracted by the story of "Kill Me, Heal Me".

Of course, they don’t care much about the comparison between the male lead and the second male lead. They basically care about only one thing - that is the performance of the actors.

I have mentioned before that Han Yu was very amazed at Ji Sheng's performance.

The most difficult thing for a person to play the seven characters is not the kind of thinking about the emotions of the characters, but how to play the seven different characters in their unique style so that the audience can look at the same face but see the feelings of different people. This is the most difficult part.

But Chi Sheng really did this.

Now that Han Yu thinks about it carefully, it is possible that real actors have their own professional consensus in their performance.

When playing the role of the seven personalities, Chi Sheng paid great attention to the differences in each character because of his different personalities.

For example, the sound of the sound is still unimaginable. How Chi Sheng has practiced his voice into seven different feelings, and each personality has its own unique voice. Even now, many viewers of their TV series just need to listen to Chi Sheng speak to know that their current personality is the secondary personality Shen Shiqi, or the main personality Che Daoxian.

These are all beyond Han Yu's reach.

Han Yu didn't care about the hard work he had to put in to hone his acting skills. He understood the truth that there was no free lunch in the world when he was very young.

But he still felt disappointed in his heart that he knew his shortcomings, especially when there was such a sharp contrast around him.

It is not because others point out their shortcomings, but because they feel lost because they have shortcomings...

...

However, just when Han Yu was frustrated by Ha Zhengyu's words, suddenly, Ha Zhengyu, who was sitting next to Han Yu, squinted his eyes and smoking, spoke another sentence that made Han Yu stunned.

"But speaking of this, even Brother Chi Sheng has some bad acting skills."
