Chapter 12 The Troubled War
Dort has always been a small Polish businessman, and since his grandfather, his family has been running a small daily necessities in the center of Warsaw. Now Dort is sitting in his small shop, flirting through the account books of the month while worrying.
It seems that business is becoming increasingly difficult. When the Germans first came, they thought that they had just changed to a group of foreign rulers, and their lives would soon be restored to their original state, and their business could continue to be done as they were before. But now it seems that they are obviously wrong in their estimates. Those Germans are not rulers, they are plunderers. They do not want to rule this land, they want to squeeze out this land.
There are fewer and fewer goods from other places, and many hardware and groceries are out of stock. I heard that the Germans have searched all the metals to Germany to build cannons. This seems a bit exaggerated, but there are indeed several goods that have disappeared after the Germans come, such as the beautiful copper faucet and the small cast iron stove. There is usually a sufficient supply of goods, but now there is no store in Warsaw that can sell these two kinds of goods.
Now my store is filled with hardware and department stores shipped from Germany. It looks very beautiful and is indeed very durable, but the price is too expensive. The purchase price of these things is several times higher than the price of the same products in Poland. However, in order to continue the business, I have to buy this kind of goods. However, few ordinary people can afford this kind of German goods, and business is getting worse every day.
But those foods are rising prices just like their own hardware. In the past, the money they earned by selling a small hammer was enough to buy a fragrant Polish sausage, but now even if they sell a bunch of hammers, the money they earn is only enough to buy two black bread. Rich merchants can collude with German officials and live a life of drunkenness and despair, but small grocery shop owners like themselves, even the patrol German soldiers never looked at themselves with a direct look. Not to mention currying about any German official, it would be great to be able to curry favor with the few scrutiny who have been walking around in front of their doors. In this world, how can people survive?
Suddenly, a shrill sound of gunfire came from the street, awakening Dort from his thoughts, and the small Pole quickly got under the counter.
"Damn it, what's wrong? Hell! Those resisters can't go out of the city with the Germans. Why do you like to exchange fire in the city center so much? Isn't this asking for death?" Dort muttered under the counter.
"This was like this last week, and the same was true for the previous week. Can't those guys give the people some peace of mind?"
At this time, there were dense gunfires sounding from all directions, and Dort felt as if fierce fighting was going on all over Warsaw. Did the war begin again? Who was the one who came in this time? Could it be the Russian? Dort decided to take the risk of climbing out and see what was going on outside.
The small businessman lay on the floor and slowly crawled towards the store window. When he reached the base of the window, he took a deep breath, cut a cross on his chest and prayed for a while, then poked his head out to look at the street outside the window. The scene in front of him completely confused the little businessman. He took off his glasses and wiped them hard. Dort put on his glasses and looked out the window carefully. Virgin Mary, Dort was praying in his heart. He couldn't believe what he saw, why did the Germans fight with the Germans themselves? It seems that they really can't survive in this world.
Brigadier General Haxxterenzoll, commander of the SS brigade, was sitting comfortably in his luxurious office drinking the Bordeaux wine he had just got him from France. In a very good life, General Hans was very satisfied with his current situation. In Warsaw, he was like a real emperor, and the whole city was his territory. All citizens were his subjects, and here he could do whatever he wanted. No one dared to disobey his wishes, and no one dared to object to his decision. Who would have thought that he was just a small army lieutenant five years ago?
When he was kicked out of the army for violating military rules five years ago, he thought his life was over. Unexpectedly, in poverty, he saw an advertisement for SS recruiting team members on the streets. He originally wanted to try his luck, because he came out of the army and was full of contempt for the SS from the bottom of his heart. He always believed that the SS was a group of mobs and had no combat power. If he had not wanted to make a living, he would have disdained the SS. Because he had been an officer in the army, he was immediately admitted to the SS recruitment office, and he was appointed as the first-level SS squad leader at that time, allowing him to lead and train a senior squad.
As he spent more time in the SS, his views on the SS began to slowly change. He began to work hard to understand the SS's real responsibilities and how to do so that he could be appreciated by his superiors. So he began to become extremely cruel and tyrannical, and he used ten times to complete the tasks assigned by the superiors. As a result, he successfully won the favor of every one of his superiors, and as he advanced one step at a time, he finally climbed to his previous position, the second lieutenant, the third squadron leader of the SS.
At this moment, the person who changed his life appeared. He was summoned by the Imperial Security Director, the Director of the Imperial Security Bureau. No one knew what he said or did in front of Heidrich. Anyway, from that day on, he became Heidrich's man. From then on, he suddenly rose to the top, and in just two years he climbed from a second lieutenant to a brigade general. He felt incomprehensible when he thought of this. Now he finally climbed to the position of commander-in-chief of the SS in Warsaw, below one person and above ten thousand people. In Poland, no one could order him except Polish Governor Frank, and he had a brigade of armed SS. Thinking of this, General Hans took another sip of wine.
"General! Something happened!"
A SS major rushed into the office in panic.
"Get out!"
With the general's roar, a wine glass flew towards the major's face.
With a "pop", the wine glass hit the major's forehead hard. The major immediately covered his forehead and squatted down. Blood slowly flowed down from his fingers and dripped onto the floor.
"Who told you to go straight into my office without knocking? Do you think my orders are fake? Anyone will knock on the door first when they come in. Also, what is so panicked? What will happen in Warsaw that will make you so panicked? Are you still like a SS officer?" General Hans pointed at the major and cursed.
"General, something big happened." The major shouted in grievance, covering the wound on his head.
"Oh? Something really happened? Take this first and wipe the blood off your head first." General Hans handed a handkerchief to the major.
"You say now, what exactly happened."
The major took the handkerchief and covered the wound, and then said anxiously: "General, I just received the news from the Special Operations Team that half of their soldiers had mutiny under the leadership of Captain Taifel. They seized the weapons of the remaining half of the Special Operations Team soldiers and imprisoned them in their barracks. I heard that more than a dozen low-level officers and soldiers were executed at that time."
"What!"
General Hans jumped up after hearing the major's report.
"Taifer has carried out a mutiny! This is impossible! His loyalty to the head of state is irrefutable, and something else must have happened."
"It was Fox, the deputy captain of the Special Operations Team who secretly called from their barracks to report that he reported that Taffier was still searching for him in the barracks. He said that as soon as Taffier entered the barracks, he summoned all the officers and soldiers who did not participate in the purge yesterday, and then led the officers and soldiers to capture the soldiers and officers who participated in the purge. He also killed all the soldiers and officers who wanted to resist. Now Taffier may have been caught by Captain Taffier, because all the telephone lines leading to the Special Operations Team's camp were suddenly cut off."
"This is really something! Defell is so bold. Is he so dazed?"
General Hans roared angrily, and he turned around the room with his hands behind his back to think about countermeasures. Suddenly he stopped, turned his head and asked anxiously to the major: "Where is the 77th Storm Commando led by Taifel? Have they also participated in the mutiny?"
"It's not clear yet, it shouldn't be. The Fox report did not mention that the Wrath SS was involved."
"That's good, but you still can't take it lightly."
General Hans calmed down for a moment, and ordered to the major: "Now you will immediately lead a team of guards to the military camp of the Special Operations Battalion to investigate. If it is true, then arrest Tafell immediately. If he refuses to arrest you can shoot. Also, you will immediately transfer a regiment of armed SS to go with you. He has half a special operation team, that is, there are half a regiment of soldiers. If they really change, then resolutely suppress it with force. Do you understand?"
"As for orders, general." The major replied with a frown and covered his forehead.
"Also, you go find someone to bandage you first, so how do you go out to see someone? Go and wash. I promoted you. You should know that I hate others rushing into my office if you don't knock on the door. This time, let's forget about the matter. What you reported is very important, I'll write it down. If you investigate the Tiffel mutiny this time, I will award you a medal. Okay, go."
"Yes, General." The major saluted and turned around and walked out.
"The Taifel mutiny, now I still can't believe it." General Hans sat down behind his desk. He frowned and thought for a while and picked up the phone.
"Switchboard, I am General Hans. Get me the headquarters of the 80th Storm Commando of the SS to find Major Gerhart. Hurry!"
After waiting for a while, a smart and capable voice rang out on the other end of the phone.
"The 80th Storm Commando headquarters. Who do you want?"
"I am General Hans, who are you?" Hans felt very strange. Why is it not the voice of Major Gerhart, the captain of the 80th Storm Commando. Is he not in the office?
"Hello General, I am Darth, the duty officer. Is there anything you have?"
"Where is Major Gerhart? Let him answer the phone."
"The major led the team out of the mission. If you have anything, you can tell me. I can convey it when he comes back."
"Task out?" General Hans was completely confused. He asked strangely: "The headquarters has not issued any mission. He should be in the barracks with his team now. What is the matter."
"I don't know either, General, after receiving a call, he hurriedly took the entire commando out. But I seemed to hear from the major that it was an emergency task of the commander, and it seemed that there was something about the head of state."
"What! Commander! Head of State?"
"Yes, I heard from the Major."
"Okay, I'm fine. I'll call me immediately when the major comes back."
"As for orders, general."
General Hans put down the phone and felt confused. What happened in a while? Will the commando directly notify a commando if there is an emergency task? Don’t you have to go through the SS Command first? Hans quickly picked up the phone again. As soon as he connected dozens of commando teams, all the answers were made by the commando. Some people simply connected to the phone.
General Hans fell off the phone angrily. What happened today? All his troops were mobilized by the commander to take out the mission. What exactly was the task that required all the armed SS of a brigade to be dispatched. What puzzled him the most was that he had not received any news, which made him very worried.
Suddenly, there was a fierce gunshot sound in the center of Warsaw in the distance, and there was a grenade explosion.
General Hans jumped up suddenly, and he ran to the window and looked in the direction of the gunfire. He saw a cloud of gunpowder in the distance, and from time to time, there were large and large bursts of explosions slowly rising.
"What happened!"
General Hans was stunned by this sudden situation. At this time, the phone ring on his desk suddenly rang. General Hans was suddenly awakened by the phone ring, and he rushed to the phone and picked up the receiver.
"General, I am Lieutenant Colonel Fawo of the Security Inspector Brigade." The voice of the Warsaw Security Inspector Commander Fawo was heard from the telephone, and fierce and dense gunshots could be heard.
"What happened! What was those gunshots!"
"Don't you know? General, I want you to tell me what happened. We were attacked by your SS. They had to take away our soldiers' weapons as soon as they came. After the soldiers resisted, they fired at us. Now they are massacring my soldiers. They surrounded me and my troops in my headquarters. They did not accept my surrender. I also received news that all the government agencies in Warsaw were under the same attack. A large number of officials were arrested by the SS and the Gestapo. What happened? General! General!"
Hans did not answer Favo's question, and he hung up the phone. The task of the commander... It turned out that this was the task of the commander. He finally knew what his troops were doing. They went to destroy the security guards and arrest government officials. Suddenly, his mind moved. Did Taifel receive the same order, so he arrested his own subordinates. If this is true, what exactly did the commander want to do?
"Is it for that matter?"
General Hans screamed. Yes, yes, it must be for that matter, General Heidrich's removal operation. But how could the commander know about this operation so quickly? It was just beginning yesterday, why did the news reach the commander's office so quickly? Does he have a suspicion from the commander's office here?
Just when Hans was still thinking about it, the office door was suddenly pushed open again, and the major in front rushed in. When he just stepped into the office, he remembered that he had violated the general's taboo again, he quickly retreated and closed the door. Then a soft knock sounded in the office. Hans looked at the scene in amazement, and he was almost blown away by the idiot's behavior.
"Come in!" he roared and roared. The major opened the door and walked in.
"Report to the general, something big happened again."
General Hans tried his best to suppress his anger. He gritted his teeth and asked, "I know if it's about the firefight there. You won't be here to report this to me."
"It's related to this. General, your guard has also been attacked by those armed SSs. It seems that it's not a mutiny but a massive rebellion."
"What, they fired at my guard?" General Hans was startled.
"Yes, General, I went to mobilize the armed SS team you mentioned, but I heard that they were on duty in the city, and I thought it might be that you had called them first, so I took your half of the guard to the military camp of the Special Operations Team. But I didn't expect that halfway through a whole company of Storm Commandos, who stopped us and wanted to see our documents. When I said we were members of the SS Command, they immediately pointed the gun at us, and then I didn't know who took the action first.
We had a gunfight with the armed SS. They were indiscriminate, and the guards were beaten so hard that they couldn't raise their heads. I thought something was wrong, so I ran back and reported to you. General, it seems that it is very unsafe here now. The armed SSs have rebelled and they are approaching the headquarters. I think we should leave here first, you still have half a guard, and you should be able to escort us out of the city, and then you will report what happened here to the headquarters and let the headquarters transfer the troops to deal with these traitors."
"No need!" General Hans fell back and sat on the chair. He said to the major powerlessly: "I understand it all, it's useless. I know what happened. Even if we escape, we will not have a place to stay. This is the plan of the commander. We are all killed by Chief Heidrich, but only he can save us at that time."
Gunshots had already started in the headquarters compound, and the command's guards were making their final resistance to the armed SS. After a while, the gunshots fell silent. With the loud noise of the wooden board breaking, the door of the Warsaw SS Commander-in-Chief's Office was kicked open, and a team of storm commandos rushed into the office. The major was about to pull out the gun from the holster and was knocked to the ground by two commandos. Then a SS Colonel with a cold face like ice came in. After standing in front of General Hans, he said coldly: "SS Brigade Captain Haxterenzoll Hans, you have been arrested."
"You...you are Lieutenant Colonel Daogen, no, now you are the colonel. I didn't expect the Commander to send you to arrest me. Are you not the deputy head of the Deputy Head of State? Could it be that the Deputy Head of State...all this..."
"Stop talking, General Hans. Come with me."
"No, I don't want to die. I don't want to see that apostle, Colonel Dogen, let me go. Please, you can do anything for you."
When Hans understood that the final mastermind behind this matter was Reinhardt von Steed, he completely collapsed. He might have a way of life if he fell into someone's hand. In the hands of this apostle of God, he could only meet God, and he couldn't help but grab Daogen's trousers and beg.
"Is it okay to do anything?" Daogen looked at the SS General kneeling at his feet in disgust.
"Yes, I still have a lot of savings in anything, and I still have some antiques." General Hans felt a glimmer of hope.
"No need to be so troublesome. In fact, you just need to do something very simple for me. General Hans, you should resist arrest."
A sneer appeared on Daogen's face.
