Chapter 493: Finishing (Part 1)

Night in Rome has already fallen. Unlike the past, a terrifying and solemn atmosphere enveloped the city that never sleeps.∽↗∽↗, a fleet of military vehicles speeding past the streets every few minutes, and some cars even sounded a shrill alarm.

The uniforms of German infantry and Italian soldiers were very similar in color, and it was difficult to distinguish clearly under the dim street lights. Teams of infantry lined up along the streets in columns. They drove the citizens who were waiting and watching back to their residences and arrested any pedestrians who dared to disobey their orders.

The German army and the Italian command also announced that they had entered a state of emergency martial law in Rome. No one was allowed to stay outdoors after 8 o'clock in the evening. At the same time, these troops also launched a large-scale search in the city. They broke into high-end apartments and villas according to the list and forced them to take away the residents. Witnesses claimed that many of them were prominent figures.

Citizens believe that everything in front of them is related to the assassination at noon. Until now, the government has not announced any news about Mussolini's life and death. Undercurrents in the lower class of the city are surging, and various miserable rumors spread among neighbors like viruses. Most Italians are convinced that Mussolini is dead and they have lost this great national leader forever.

All the arrested suspects were concentrated in the Model Military Prison on the north side of the city of Rome. This was once a 19th-century barracks. In fact, it was a small fortress with thick and towering brick walls and high artillery turrets built on four corners. The prison was surrounded by a circle of moats more than ten meters wide, filled with rivers drawn from the Tevere River.

A black Fiat 2600 high-end sedan quickly drove through the steel bridge in front of the prison gate and stopped in front of the wooden deer fort established by the gate.

The guards walked forward with a rifle to interrogate, and then raised their guns to salute them and let them go. The car slowly drove inward along the asphalt lane and arrived in front of a two-story building on the west side of the wall. The driver stopped the car and turned off the fire. The occupant in the passenger seat jumped out of the car neatly and respectfully opened the door for the passenger in the back seat.

"It looks good here, and it gives me a feeling of going home." The passenger got out of the car and looked up at the ancient fortress.

The visitor was wearing a black SS leather trench coat, a black brimmed hat on his head, leaning on a slender black cane in his left hand and a leather briefcase in his other hand.

At this time a searchlight from the tower turned over, illuminating the visitor and the ground around him.

"It's great, even this one is there, the owner here is so hospitable." The visitor raised the bag in his hand to block the dazzling light, and whispered in a sarcastic tone.

"I'm very sorry, Major Jurgen, I just received the notice from above, and I didn't expect you to come so quickly." At this time, an Italian army colonel ran out of the building, followed by a captain, probably his accompanying adjutant.

"Don't worry, Colonel Selwando, I haven't had time to appreciate this beautiful castle yet." Jurgen smiled and put down his handbag.

"Let that idiot move the light away." The colonel stretched out his hand to Juergen with an awkward look, and at the same time he whispered to his subordinates.

"It's going smoothly on the way, Major." After both sides shook hands cordially, Selwando led the visitor to the small building.

"Fortunately, the flight was very stable all the way." Yuergen turned around and looked at his adjutant, then walked into the building with a polite conspiracy with the colonel.

It can be seen that this is a modern and newly built building, which will not last more than five years at most. Due to the lack of lighting, the corridor looks a bit dark, and it is possible to distinguish between green wooden walls on both sides and black and white lattice mosaic floors on the ground.

"Go to my office first, I have prepared refreshments for you." The colonel said attentively.

"No, let's go to the interrogation room first. I personally am used to finishing the work first." Jurgen said coldly.

"What an amazing habit, Major, then, let's go to the interrogation room now." The colonel was very cooperative and everything was as you wish.

This is also impossible. He must remain obedient when facing the visitor. Although Selwando is a senior officer and is full of words in this prison, in the matter in front of him, he can only be regarded as the humblest little person. Although the German in front of him looks kind, Selwando knows very well that the other party only needs one sentence to destroy everything he has now.

Selvando led Jurgen and followed the spiral staircase at the end of the corridor to the basement of the building.

Interestingly, the light upstairs was dim like a haunted house, but the underground floor was brightly lit. On both sides of the corridor were two rows of rooms with heavy iron doors. Every ten meters, two armed guards wearing black shirts and pistols stood.

"Please go here." Selvando guided him in front.

"It's coming soon, I've arranged several suspects in the first interrogation room."

The colonel came to an iron door and instructed the guards at the door to open the door.

"It's right here, this is the room with the most complete facilities," Selwando introduced.

When you open the iron door, there is a small compartment inside, and you can see a wooden door behind connecting the inside and outside.

"I won't go in, Major, if there is any need, there is a phone number inside, I will stay in the office." Standing by the door, the colonel's face was filled with smiles.

"I will, thank you very much, Mr. Colonel." Yuergen walked into the compartment with his cane, turned around and nodded to Selvando, and then the guards closed the iron door outside.

Jurgen raised his cane and knocked on the inner door with the head of a silver stick. A sliding window on the door was opened, and a pair of glasses appeared in front of the window.

"Open the door quickly, Ditrich, I can recognize your eyes." Jurgen said with a smile.

The small window closed immediately, and a messy sound of unlocking came from the door.

"I didn't expect that the above will send you over, Major. Ah, I mean, I'm glad to see you again, Mr. Major."

Behind the door was a strong man two meters tall, wearing an army shirt that made people feel like they would be torn at any time. His cuffs were curled up to his elbows, revealing his thick arms covered with golden hair.

"It looks like you've been doing well during this period, Ditrich." Jurgen handed the tote bag and cane to the strong man, then unbuttoned and took off the leather windbreaker outside.

"Please find a place to hang it for me, be careful not to get it dirty." Jurgen handed the windbreaker to Ditrich, and took back the briefcase and crutches from the other party.

"As for orders, Mr. Major." The strong man respectfully held the windbreaker, like a baby.

"Wait a minute." Jurgen hooked Ditrich's arm with his cane.

"It seems that you were having a lot of fun before I came." The major found tiny drops of blood that seemed to be splattering on the other party's forearm.

"You know, you will always encounter a few tough guys, Major." Dietrich explained hurriedly.

"Okay, are you going in from here?" Jurgen was not interested in getting involved with this reckless man, and he said, pointing to a corridor in a corner of the room.

"When you go in, turn left and the second room, and Lieutenant Zimmerman is there, too." Ditrich replied.

"Who else is inside now?" Yuergen asked indifferently.

"Ltd. Col. von Kaufman of the Gendarmerie Command and his adjutants, as well as Rudolph, Ludwick, Kalman, Hans, Claire, um," the big man recalled with his head tilted.

"Okay, all your torture teams are here, right?"

"Most of them are here. Dikele and Hansen didn't come. Coral was sick and had appendicitis and almost died. What a bad guy." Ditrich replied happily.

"Enough, go and put my clothes on, and then continue to guard here. If there is something, I will send someone to call you."

Jurgen raised his hand to stop the unexpectedly broken guy. The SS major walked slowly into the corridor with his cane.

ps: Today was also very smooth, and the construction was completed one hour in advance. Thank you for your understanding. (To be continued.)
