Chapter 1 On the way home

"Return to the base camp?"

"Yes, you have to prepare quickly!"

"I understand, general!" Hans replied.

Xu Jun said to Muller again: "Major Muller, if Colonel Luxembourg's troops have not arrived here after lunch, I will not be ready to wait for him. I am sorry that I cannot preside over the convening of the Victory Conference. I must return to the base camp immediately to discuss the subsequent combat plan with the head of state.

Now I appoint you as the acting brigade commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade of the 7th Armored Division and promoted you to the Army Lieutenant Colonel. When Colonel Luxembourg returns, you convey my order to Colonel Luxembourg, and I appoint him as the acting deputy commander of the 7th Armored Division. If you want to help him lead the 7th Armored Division, you will stay here to repair the troops.

Since our losses this time are huge, I will ask the Army General Command to immediately supplement the 7th Armored Division. The losses will be selected from the surviving non-commissioned officers, and the vacancies of senior officers will be taken over by the surviving lower officers. They have proved that they have this ability in the battle, and I will issue them an appointment letter. Other issues will be resolved by you and the Colonel Luxembourg. Do you understand?"

"I understand. I am very grateful to General for your trust and promotion in me. Please rest assured, General, I will definitely manage the 7th Armored Division with Colonel Luxembourg. I will never let you down your expectations for me. I long for you to come back soon to lead us to continue fighting until the day of victory comes." Muller replied excitedly.

He was promoted to two levels in two days, something that had never happened in the National Defense Forces. Muller felt like he was dreaming. Now Xu Jun has been promoted to the level of God in his mind. Muller secretly vowed that he would repay Xu Jun's appreciation and cultivation no matter what, even if he wanted him to lose his life for Xu Jun, he would do whatever he wanted.

After lunch, Longdestedt's plane arrived on time. It was a brand new ju52. In order to get her to land, the 58th Engineer Battalion spent two hours pressing out a simple runway with 20 heavy tractors and 80 trucks of various types.

Now Xu Jun and his subordinates are standing by the plane and saying goodbye to the officers of the 7th Armored Division. Because this time they are going back to the base camp of the National Defense Forces, Xu Jun only brought Hans, Randolph, Daogen, and three people. The two intern staff stayed in the 7th Armored Division to continue their internships, while the two orderly soldiers were added to the chores of Mueller's new command.

After knowing the news that their commander was leaving, the soldiers of the 7th Armored Division spontaneously came to the runway to say goodbye to their beloved general. They lined up in an orderly manner and watched the commander's plane slowly leave the ground. All the soldiers immediately gave gun-carrying salutes to the plane until the plane slowly disappeared from their sight.

Xu Jun sat in the spacious cabin of Ju52 and looked down at the combat telegrams and various recording documents that Hans had sorted out for him. He wanted to sort them into a formal report and hand them over to Hitler before returning to the base camp.

While looking at the documents, he whispered to Hans about the details. Randolph sat in the back of them, and he was now excitedly watching teams of escort planes shuttle back and forth outside the porthole. In order for the last forced landing incident to stop happening, the base camp dispatched a brigade of 40 me110 fighters to protect them throughout the journey. They lined up in a wheel formation to tightly surround the ju52.

But Daogen was not interested in seeing these things. He was now tilting his head and was already asleep in his seat.

After Xu Jun explained some details of the combat report to Hans, he simply threw the specific work of writing the report directly to Hans. While looking at the clouds outside the window, he thought about the problem, leaving only poor Hans, who was stunned with a pencil in his arms, looking at a pile of documents.

Xu Jun thought hard about how he could make Hitler change his wrong decisions and how could he make the generals believe that his suggestions were correct?

In Jack's memory, he searched for the memories of how Jack had dealt with the Nazi leader and senior generals in the past, hoping to find the weaknesses and preferences of those people, so that he could use these to achieve his goals. As the memories of Jack's contact with Nazi Party officials emerged one after another, Xu Jun couldn't help but laugh.

This guy is such a rogue. I didn't expect him to behave like this at the regular meeting at the base camp.

That's fine. If I can't convince the generals and commanders to support me, then I will learn this rogue way to "communicate" with the senior "elites". If my plan cannot be passed, I will ruin your plan.

Xu Jun settled down and felt relaxed for a moment, but he immediately remembered that if he really successfully stopped Hitler's wrong decision, what should he do next? How to destroy the British retreat, how to perfectly eliminate them in Dunkirk, what preparations should be made, where to attack, how to fight, what is the current battlefield situation, and how many troops can be used, these problems are placed in front of Xu Jun, giving him a headache. What he needs most now is precise information. Only by obtaining the current exact information can he make a plan for the next step.

"Hans!"

"At, General!" Hans raised his head from his pile of documents and replied.

"After landing, you will immediately find me the latest report on the exact location and number of troops in all the Army units. I also want the Air Force Reconnaissance Force's reconnaissance report on the enemy's movements today. You can give me a detailed map of western France."

"As for orders, General, I can actually let the pilot contact the ground now and let the ground prepare these before we land."

"That's good. Go and do it quickly and let them prepare the most detailed information."

"I know. General." Hans put down the documents and stood up, and walked towards the cockpit.

Xu Jun then felt relieved, looked at the scenery outside the window leisurely, waiting for Hans' result. After a while, Hans returned to the cabin. He patted Xu Jun on the shoulder.

"General."

Xu Jun turned around and asked, "How is it? Have you contacted me?"

"General, we have all arranged. We will land in Cologne today and then rest there for a night. Tomorrow morning we will take the special train sent by the head of state to the cliff castle, and we will be there at noon tomorrow. The information you need will be sent to Cologne and then directly to the hotel you are staying. Please rest assured. The commander of the Cologne garrison and the officials of the municipal government have been waiting for your plane to arrive at the airport. They have prepared a grand welcome ceremony."

"Is that so how long will it take for us to land?"

"It should be fast. We have already flew across the French border and will be able to reach Cologne in at most two hours."

Xu Jun nodded and finally let go. He leaned back on the soft leather chair and began to calm down. Hans sat back in his seat and continued to write his report with a pencil.
