Chapter 15 Battle (4) Blocking

The interception shooting of the "Fenris" tank sniper gun group caused serious losses to the French tank group. In the first four volleys, eight "Fenris" destroyed nineteen ft17s in one fell swoop, more than half of which were blown into pieces on the spot, and the rest were burned into a ball of fireballs.

However, the French tank group that suffered such a blow did not stop their charge. The French tankers continued to assault forward with firm fighting beliefs. The tanks in the front row were hit and exploded, and the tanks in the back row would immediately bypass the wreckage and quickly fill the position of their sacrificial comrades.

The number of tanks that France invested in the attack was too large. Although the attack of "Fenris" was fierce and effective, it could not have any substantial impact on the offensive formation of the French tank group for a while.

The German soldiers looked at everything that was happening in front of them in amazement. In the eyes of the German infantry, French tanks seemed to emerge from magic boxes. Whenever a French tank was destroyed, another tank would immediately appear in the gap.

The German soldiers looked at the group of small tanks painted with brown and yellow camouflage and slowly pressed towards them in neat formations. They suddenly felt that the French tanks might never be eliminated.

"Fenris" is still shooting hard, but the sequelae brought about by continuous high-speed shooting has begun to appear.

Although those gunners are veterans who have been strictly trained, their physical strength is limited, and high-intensity continuous shooting quickly consumes the physical strength of German gunners.

Although the German gunners continued to work hard with their firm fighting will, as French tanks continued to advance, the shooting speed and accuracy of "Fenris" slowly decreased.

French tanks have advanced to a position less than 800 meters away from the German position, and the German anti-tank artillery troops deployed on the German front-line positions have finally begun to enter the battle.

Since the latest 50mm anti-tank guns in the German army are not large, and they are all supplied to the front-line combat troops according to Xu Jun's orders, the 37mm anti-tank guns are still equipped in the First 1st Anti-tank Battalion of the Head Guards Corps.

Although this small-caliber anti-tank gun has proved difficult to cause damage to active French and British heavy tanks in previous stages of the battle, this gun is still a very effective weapon if used to deal with some light armored targets.

According to Xu Jun's idea, he will use these ready-made equipment first, and then replace more powerful weapons when he has the conditions. If he really encounters a target that can't be dealt with, he will have the ace of "Fenris".

Although the 37mm anti-tank gun cannot deal with heavy tanks, it is still very confident to deal with the old tanks produced during World War I.

The 37mm anti-tank gun can penetrate the ft17's front armor that is only 22mm thick from one thousand meters away, but to ensure the shooting accuracy, the cautious gun company commander ordered the fire after the French tank advanced to 800 meters.

The joining of the twelve 37mm anti-tank guns greatly reduced the pressure of "Fenris". As one ft17 after another was torn to pieces or burned into scrap iron, the advance of the French tank group was finally blocked and suffocated. Although the French tanks were still charging forward one after another, they could no longer push forward.

The area 800 to 500 meters in front of the German position has become the death zone of French tanks. No tank can rush through this distance. In just a few minutes, this area is filled with burning tank wreckage.

But the nightmare of the French tank group was not over yet. Just as they were massacred by German anti-tank fire, the German heavy artillery troops began to bombard them.

Since the frontier commander judged that there must be French infantry following behind the French tank group, Daogen asked Xu Jun to use division-level heavy artillery to bombard the French attacking cluster.

Xu Jun agreed to Daogen's request without hesitation. Since heavy artillery took a long time to prepare before the shelling, it was only then that he would join the battle.

But what he didn't expect was that the frontier commander made a mistake in his judgment. In fact, he couldn't blame him. It was always the German team's combat rule when the tank attacked. How could he think of the French not doing this? They only sent tanks without letting infantry follow him.

If he knew about this, he would not have asked the artillery troops to bombard the enemy, because for the German team on the defense, excessive firepower is a waste, especially in the current situation where ammunition must be saved.

However, because of his mistake in judgment, the German artillery gave the French tank group a fatal blow at critical moments and at critical positions.

The intensive bombardment of the four 1918 75mm infantry guns, four 1933 150mm heavy infantry guns, and the 24 1928/29 105mm light howitzers from the division's artillery regiment, with 8 1918/40 150mm heavy howitzers, the dense bombardment of the tragic French tank cluster, added new wounds to the already miserable French tank cluster.

Countless shells exploded in the blocked tank group, which should have been calculated by the artillery commanders to follow the enemy's infantry behind the tank group.

If you are hit directly by such a large-caliber shell, the tank can be said to have not been blown up but smashed. If you happen to hit the tank turret, the captain of the Renault tank may have been smashed into pancakes with the small turret before he could feel the pain of being hit. Even if he doesn't hit the tank directly, the huge shock wave generated when the bomb is out of the blast is enough to lift this seven-ton small thing upwards.

An artillery frontier observer later swore that he saw a French tank flying up more than ten meters high by shells, and then fell down and smashed another tank.

Since the battlefield after the war was filled with wreckage and many of them could not be identified, it was impossible to find conclusive evidence to confirm his words.

Although this soldier's words may have a little exaggeration, the density of the artillery fire and the scene of French tanks shaking and struggling in the barrage did leave a deep impression on all the German soldiers present.

The attacks the artillery troops caused to the French tank group were devastating, and the tank group completely collapsed.

No army can continue to maintain their offensive momentum after being hit by such fierce firepower, and even the bravest troops cannot bear such heavy losses.

French tanks threw down the burning steel wrecks all over the ground and began to retreat. After German artillery chased and fired, less than ten ft17s fled back to their starting position.

The German infantry, who had not shot a shot so far, finally breathed a sigh of relief, and looked at the group of soldiers burning in front of them with a little chill.

The fighting will of the French tankers made everyone who saw their attacks be in awe. If these tankers were not driving this old-fashioned ragged tank but a new type of tank with heavy armor, and there were no "Fenris" on their side, then this attack would have a completely opposite end.

The flames on the wreckage of French tanks burned more and more vigorously with the repeated explosions of car-mounted ammunition. Tracers of various colors scattered in beautiful arcs, looking like fireworks during festivals.

But no German admired the scene before him, because every German soldier knew the expensive price behind these fireworks.

The rolling black smoke that emerged when the tank wreckage burned covered half of the sky, making the battlefield, which was already dim due to the hazy weather, even more desolate.

Since the German position is now facing the sun, the position hidden by thick smoke becomes as dark as evening.

At this time, something surprised everyone. Before the German soldiers recovered from the stimulation brought to them by the last fierce offensive and defensive battle, the French team launched another attack.

The sharp whistle almost overwhelmed the sound of ammunition explosion, and the German soldiers felt the ground tremble slightly again.

"God! The French are crazy, and they dispatched tanks again!"

An artillery observer exclaimed loudly, and although the wreckage and smoke obscured his sight, he was sure that the rumbling sound he heard from the French positions now was definitely the roar of the tank engine.

"Note that the French are attacking again! Be prepared for battle!"

The anti-tank gun position commanded loudly to his subordinates.

The gunmen quickly kicked and pulled their subordinates who had just sat down to take a breath back to their respective positions.

A group of exhausted bullet transporters hung the kettle that had just opened the lid and had not had time to take a sip on their waists, then carried the shell box and walked towards their respective cannons.

The loaders pulled open the still hot blaster and filled the armor-piercing bullets into the blaster.

The aiming hand puts his eyes on the eyepiece of the scope, and holds the wheel handles of the high and low machine and the steering machine with both hands.

The tired German anti-tank gunners stared at the positions covered by black smoke, and everyone was on high alert, waiting for the enemy to appear.

"It seems that the situation is not good, it's really not good!"

Major Rawls withdrew his gaze from the gun team's mirror, then frowned and said to his staff.

"Nothing can be seen, it's all covered by thick smoke."

The staff officer put down the telescope in his hand and replied worriedly.

"Our current vision can only reach five hundred meters. The French successfully created a smoke barrier with their tanks." Rawls shook his head and said.

Now the commander of the "Fenris" tank sniper artillery battalion has completely calmed down from the excitement of eliminating the French tank group in front.

The French would launch a second attack so quickly after suffering such losses, which he had never expected.

The thick smoke emitted when hundreds of French tanks burned created a smoke barrier for the French. Of course, this could not be the purpose of the French launching the previous attack. If this is the case, it would be really terrible.

This situation can only be said to be an accident, or it can be said to be the last gift given to their comrades at the cost of their lives.

"You can't see anything five hundred meters away! It seems that these tanks can burn for half an hour, and the wind is not strong now, so don't expect the smoke to dissipate quickly."

Then Rawls ordered the staff: "Report the situation here immediately to the headquarters, and order the gun company to be responsible for the frontier positions in segments according to the fan-shaped firing angle. No matter what the French sent over, as long as it emerges from the smoke, we will blow it away!"

"As for orders, sir!"

"Order the artillery to start immediately stopping the fire, from 104 to 170, covering the artillery fire."

Daogen put down the phone and walked quickly to the observation window. The scene in front of him made him very worried.

The German team has a poor vision now. If the French launch a tank assault of the same size as last time, they will likely be able to break through the obstacles of anti-tank artillery and artillery and rush into their own positions.

When Daogen's heart felt cold when he thought about the consequences of this situation.

"Hmm? Colonel, what's the sound?"

A staff officer suddenly said in confusion.

"What?" Daogen turned around and asked in confusion.

"There is a sound in the sky, it won't be our plane."

"Airplane? This is impossible." Daogen looked up at the air. The thick clouds were pressing down very low, and the rolling smoke covered half of the sky.

"Today, the clouds are only 300 meters high, and our planes are completely unable to provide close-range support. Our own reconnaissance planes cannot take off because the runway is too soft, so there should be no German aircraft in the air now." Another staff officer came over and said.

"It's indeed the sound of the plane, and more than one."

Daogen carefully distinguished the direction of the sound coming from.

"See, there! Sir!"

The previous staff officer suddenly pointed at the front of the position and shouted.

Daogen hurriedly looked in the direction of the officer's finger, but he was once again stunned by the scene in front of him.

"Spard Type Seven..."
