Chapter 327: Military Parade (The Head of State's Plan)

The German head of state did not know what the Hungarians were thinking, and even if he knew, he could only smile bitterly and shake his head. He never thought that those rigid Hungarians would even have a moment of thinking.

Xu Jun changed the original geopolitical strategy of the Nazis, and the chain effect caused was finally revealed. Hungary was just the most inconspicuous link.

In Germany's original Eastern Front Strategy, the importance of Hungary, located at the Balkan crossing, cannot be ignored by any military expert.

Hitler sometimes liked to look at strategic issues from a political perspective, which was an advantage at some point, but it became a flaw on the Hungarian issue.

Although this country has a superior geographical location and has a vast and fertile Hungarian plains, which accounts for almost 70% of its land area, it also means that this is the most ideal battlefield for mechanized troops. Apart from some scattered hills and mountains in the northwest, there is almost no danger in Hungary.

The annexation of the Roussenior region of Czechoslovakia is actually a matter of more benefits than disadvantages for Hungary. The ethnic policy adopted by the Magyars cannot be welcomed by the Rosenians. You should know that these Slavs had made independence earlier, and they were relatives to the Ukrainians opposite the Korpathians.

What's worse is that Hungary is directly bordering the Soviet Union and no longer has any strategic buffer zones. Under the current strategic situation, even if Hungary wants to remain neutral, it is unlikely that it will be safe.

This is also the most worrying issue for the Regent Holtie now. He has seen the crisis shrouded in Hungary, and he has no confidence in dealing with it.

Xu Jun’s idea on this issue is actually the same, because in his defense plan, he is ready to give up Hungary.

He didn't trust the Regent of Holty from the bottom of his heart, the admiral was a pragmatist, so he didn't have to expect how "loyal" he would be to his allies.

In history, in order to bribe Hungary, Hitler made a lot of exchanges with him, and even sold out the interests of his "allies". He gave Hungary great support both military and politically.

The Kingdom of Hungary also gained a political position second only to Italy in Germany's Axis Alliance. In Hitler's eyes, its importance even ranks above the Japanese, not only because Hungary can provide the aluminum ore and agricultural products that Germany needs, but also because Hungary is an important channel for German armed forces to send to the Balkans. At the same time, as a victim of the Treaty of Versailles, the Hungarians are also the most determined supporter of tearing down the treaty system.

The fanatical and xenophobic Magyar Chauvinism in Hungary led to them being almost all enemies in Eastern Europe and the Balkans except Poland, so they had no other choice except relying on Germany.

When Germany was at its peak, Hungary was indeed the most powerful accomplice of the Nazis. What they did on the Soviet territory even made the SS look at it with admiration.

However, when Germany failed on the Eastern Front and its strategy turned into defense, Hungary's attitude immediately swayed. When Holtie felt that he could not see the possibility of victory in the war, he immediately put the so-called covenant aside, sent secret envoys to contact the Soviet Union, and then unilaterally signed a ceasefire agreement with the Soviet Union.

Now the entire European landscape has changed. The most powerful European Union after the Roman Empire is gradually taking shape, and Hungary's position in the hearts of the Germans has become less important.

This group of Magyar nationalists is really good at raising hatred. The Roussenior area located on the border of Hungary and Ukraine has now been penetrated by the Soviet Union to the same sieve. Although the Rousseniors do not believe in communism, in the face of the brutal oppression of the Magyars, the blood connection between the Eastern Slavs has become particularly friendly. Now I don’t know how many Rousseniors have become Soviet supporters in order to fight for the survival rights of their nation. They are looking forward to the blood relatives on the other side of the mountain to liberate them from the Hungarian rulers day and night.

The Carpathian Mountain defense line that Hungary is working hard to build is more like a joke in the eyes of German generals.

The Hungarian military actually did not believe that using a few reinforced concrete bunkers or adding machine guns and cannons on both sides of the mountain pass could withstand the steel wave of the Soviet Red Army. They also studied the German blitzkrieg theory, but found that with their existing strength, this tactic could not be replicated at all.

Hungary's foundation was emptied after the Trianon Treaty, when Hungary's national military power was limited to 35,000 people, which was only enough to maintain the government's rule.

Hungary has been quietly accumulating troops since then, but because the small Allies were staring at each other, it took ten years to increase its number of more than 20,000 people, increasing its total force to about 57,000.

It was not until Germany annexed the Czech Republic that this situation turned around. With Germany supporting him, the Hungarian army began to re-arm.

At that time, Hungary divided the country into seven military regions, with three brigades under each military region (one mixed infantry brigade, two cavalry brigades and some engineering logistics units). After the expansion of the army, the number of domestic military regions remained unchanged, and the three brigades were reorganized into one legion, but in the Roussenia region, the Hungarians immediately stationed eight legions.

Historically, these troops were then allocated to the land seized from Romania during the second Vienna arbitration, but now the second sanction has not occurred, and these troops are blocking the border between Ukraine and Romania.

At the beginning of 1940s, the total number of Hungarian troops had soared to more than 200,000, which did not include the Hungarian military police under the Ministry of the Interior and various logistics auxiliary forces.

Among them, the Hungarian labor camps are all composed of foreign and Jewish soldiers selected from the army, because the Magyar officers felt that these people were unreliable and would shake the combat effectiveness of the army.

Originally, the Hungarian troops were relatively backward in terms of weapons and tactics, but now almost 70% are rookies with no combat experience. Even the veterans have only served for two years. How much combat power is left in this army, it really makes the German Command suspicious.

Xu Jun also did not expect these recruits to fight to the end in the future Eastern Front Wars unless their enemies were replaced by Romanians.

Compared with their mortal enemies of the small Allies, the Hungarian army was far behind in all aspects, whether in organizational systems, combat ideas or weapons and equipment. Unless Germany is willing to support and re-arm the army as historically, don't expect them to play a role in frontal combat.

But now Germany cannot use expensive weapons and equipment to arm the Hungarians like in history. In Xu Jun's eyes, it is a black hole that cannot be filled.

Hungary is almost certain to be abandoned, or placed in a secondary strategic position, and the country will become a battlefield, as explained in the commander's documents.

Once the Soviet Union invaded Hungary, Germany had no extra armor and put it into defensive operations on the Hungarian plains, and sending infantry troops there was a total waste.

The railway and highway systems in Hungary are the most strategically valuable goals, but when Yugoslavia fully embraced Germany, Germany no longer fears that the strategic access to Romania will be cut off.

The Mediterranean is fully controlled by the European Union. Türkiye has always been a traditional ally of Germany. Without the suppression of Britain and France, it has long been trying to regain that "friendship forged in blood".

Once the Eastern Front War broke out, the European fleet could drive straight into the Black Sea and establish a maritime supply line that leads directly to Romania.

Although the Romanian army is not much stronger than the Hungarians, the terrain in the territory is very conducive to defense. The Romanian mountains are as complex and changeable as Yugoslavia, and they are all nightmares of the guerrilla holy land occupation forces.

With Hungary's current military strength, it is difficult to defend the defense line of the Korpathians unless they expelled all the Rosenians from this area.

When it comes to the cruelty of the Magyars, they might even create a lot of bloody crimes during the migration process, just like they did in the Soviet Union in history. Fortunately, no Hungarian has thought of this so far.

Xu Jun was not going to mention this to Holtie, he was not interested in taking the blame for the humanitarian disaster.

Perhaps when Hungary falls, they will become real warriors, and then they will regain the trust of the German head.

Xu Jun is happy to provide protection for the exiled Hungarian government and army when Hungary is in crisis. At that time, he is willing to help them, arm them, and let them fight to the end with the liberated motherland and the invaders. At that time, the German army will enter Budapest as liberators. This is the scene in Xu Jun's plan.

The Hungarian delegation is destined to return empty-handed. Although these people are still full of expectations at the moment, everything seems a bit unfair. This may be the sorrow of the weak country.

At this time, the military parade was coming to an end, and the enthusiasm of the masses began to fade slowly. It was time to be tired after cheering for two hours. The ceremony had entered garbage time, and the guests in the stands were also a little tired. The German head of state had been standing on the altar for so long that it had almost reached its limit.

It’s not that he is not physically strong, but that he drank too much water before leaving the Prime Minister’s Office in order to avoid being thirsty during his speech. Leaving the stands in the middle of the ceremony will definitely trigger unnecessary interpretation from the outside world. So the Head of State now had to grit his teeth and hold on, with a bright sunny smile on his face, which is simply a terrible torture.
