Chapter 971 Failed

The alchemy technique in China has been recorded since ancient times. The Huang-Lao Taoism during the Warring States Period was explained, and it became the largest Taoist sect outside the Zhuangzi Taoist Sect at that time. Unlike Zhuangzi's doctrine, the Huang-Lao Taoism Sect was more pragmatic and gradually evolved into the way of immortality.

The theory of alchemy was divided into two types at that time: inner alchemy and outer alchemy. Inner alchemy refers to the use of the human body as a cauldron to train the human spirit and then form elixirs in the body to achieve the purpose of strengthening the body, improving the life function of the human body, and even "becoming an immortal".

It can be said that the internal alchemy technique is the current Taoist practice method, while the external alchemy refers to the use of various secret techniques to refine elixirs, which are used to take, or to directly take certain lucid grass to enlighten one's own yin and turn it into yang energy. This is what Fang Yi is doing.

Chen Shidao, a poet of the Northern Song Dynasty, once said, "Taoism uses cooking gold and stone as external elixirs; dragons and tigers breathe, vomiting the old and accepting the new as internal elixirs."

This sentence summarizes the distinction between inner and outer elixirs, but in fact, the real alchemy technique was lost as early as the Huang-Lao Way. In order to pursue immortality, later generations gradually went astray and used gold and stone to refine alchemy, which really killed many emperors and generals.

Apart from Qi Refiners, it is impossible for those alchemists in ancient times to refine real elixirs, because the alchemy and magicians have very high requirements for cultivation level and spiritual consciousness. Apart from the step of taking medicine, the remaining steps require spiritual consciousness and true energy to cooperate.

Fang Yi's alchemy technique is divided into five steps. The first step is to activate the alchemy furnace. In ancient times, it was necessary to activate the alchemy furnace with elixir fire or earth fire. Fang Yi had not reached that level yet, so he could only use modern fuel to replace it.

The second step is to place medicinal materials. This seems simple, but there is no error in the order of placing medicinal materials. Relatively speaking, this step is the simplest step in the alchemy process.

As for the third step, called plural elixir, it requires the alchemist to integrate his true energy into the unformed elixir, because the alchemist is also a Qi refiner, and their true energy contains the characteristics of spiritual energy and can help the elixirs to merge with each other.

Therefore, in ancient times, the elixirs refined by different cultivation levels were also different in quality. Even the elixirs refined by each elixir had different characteristics, but this was determined based on their physical attributes. Usually, people with fire-attributed spiritual roots are most likely to become elixirs.

However, in addition to using elixir fire, you can also use earth fire and some strange fires in the world to refine elixirs. Therefore, it is not ruled out that people with other spiritual root attributes become alchemists, and people with different attributes can also produce some unique effects when fusion of true essence and elixirs.

The fourth step in alchemy is to make pills, which are also called elixirs. After the medicinal materials in the alchemy furnace are fused with each other, the alchemist must use his spiritual sense to divide the pills into several portions. This step is extremely critical. If you are not careful, all your previous efforts will be wasted.

The strength of Fang Yi's spiritual consciousness can barely do this, which is why he first refines Qingxin Pills. Because only by mastering the techniques when forming pills can Fang Yi increase the success rate of alchemy, so Fang Yi is more trying this furnace of elixirs.

The fifth step and the last step after the elixir are formed are the elixirs. The elixirs just refined need to be kept in the elixir furnace for a period of time. When the temperature of the elixir slowly drops to a point, you must quickly turn on the elixir to take out the elixir.

The time of the elixir is released will affect the medicinal properties of the elixir. This step is very important to grasp the timing. Fang Yi must master the best time to produce the elixir based on the color changes of the elixir in the elixir furnace.

Fang Yi only performed the previous two steps and spent nearly a day and a night. This was somewhat different from Fang Yi's perception in the inheritance. However, observing the fusion of medicinal materials in the alchemy furnace, Fang Yi felt that he should have made no mistakes.

After sleeping for more than twenty hours, Fang Yi didn't feel tired, but his spiritual consciousness felt a little tired. After all, he kept concentrating his spiritual consciousness in the alchemy furnace, which was also a big test for Fang Yi.

Taking a deep breath, Fang Yi put his palm on the alchemy furnace. It was strange that there was a pill furnace with a temperature of at least over a thousand degrees in the furnace, but the surface of his body felt a little warm.

"Hmm? Why is this happening?"

When Fang Yi sent out the true energy to the alchemy furnace, Fang Yi suddenly discovered that the alchemy furnace had actually generated a suction force, causing the true energy in his body to leak out. In just a blink of an eye, Fang Yi found that his true energy had been consumed by half.

The suction power of the alchemy furnace is very strong, and Fang Yi cannot control his true energy at all, which makes Fang Yi a little panicked, because for the Qi Refiner, the true energy is the foundation of his body. If the true energy is sucked away, the person will become a person.

Although the time when the alchemy furnace forced the absorption of true energy was short, the sudden change made Fang Yi unable to maintain peace of mind anymore. At this time, he should have used his spiritual sense to observe the situation of the medicinal materials and was ready to perform the steps of condensed pills at any time. However, Fang Yi was confused and missed this opportunity.

"Failed!"

Feeling the almost empty true energy in his body, Fang Yi couldn't help but smile bitterly, and looked at the alchemy furnace. The medicinal materials that were originally sticky and were about to merge together had now become a dark solid. Fang Yi knew that his first alchemy practice ended in failure.

Turning off the flames under the elixir furnace, Fang Yi used his spiritual sense to open the elixir furnace, and a stinking smell came to his nose. When he smelled this smell, Fang Yi was deprived. It was impossible for the things made from many medicinal materials to emit such an unpleasant smell. There was no doubt that the things in it were not even considered medicine, let alone elixirs.

Shaking his head, Fang Yi cleaned out all the unpleasant impurities in the alchemy furnace. This process was very easy, because the inner wall of the alchemy furnace was as smooth as jade, and the impurities that failed to refine the alchemy could not be attached to it at all.

"Fang Yi, how about it? Hey, I, I said, brother, why are you so haggard?"

When Fang Yi opened the door of the alchemy room, Peng Bin, who was waiting outside, was shocked by Fang Yi's appearance. Fang Yi was refreshed when he entered the alchemy room a day ago, but at this time, Fang Yi had deep eyes and boring hair, and his whole body was listless.

Peng Bin is also a congenital warrior now. He knew that with their current cultivation level, not to mention just staying up for a day and a night, even if they stayed asleep for three or five days, they would not look like Fang Yi. Fang Yi’s current appearance only shows that he spent a lot of effort while refining alchemy.

"Fang Yi, what's wrong with you? Is it okay?"

Hearing Peng Bin's yelling, people living in the middle and front yards ran over and were shocked when they saw Fang Yi's appearance. Although Fang Yi was not as beautiful as a jade in the past, he was not so haggard.

"I'm fine in early summer." Fang Yi shook his head and said, "Prepare some clean water food and fruit for me, and I'll sit and rest for a while."

Fang Yi, who was able to fast, now has to replenish some energy from his food, because his body consumed too much this time, which also made Fang Yi know why the inheritance shows that only when his cultivation reaches the Qi Refining Stage can he be qualified to refine alchemy.

"Fang Yi, has your pill been refined?" Peng Bin stretched his head and looked into the alchemy room, frowned slightly, and said, "Why does it smell like rotten meat? Why does the pill smell so bad?"

"This is the taste of refining it."

Fang Yi threw a ball of impurities wrapped in oil cloth in his hand to Peng Bin and said, "Brother, look for a livestock to try the medicine to see if the waste impurities are poisonous. No, I want to eat something first and rest for a while."

Although his spiritual sense was not damaged, Fang Yi could not hold on any longer. Before Bai Chuxia could prepare food for him, Fang Yi hurried to the kitchen in the front yard, opened the refrigerator and picked some ready-made fruits and started eating. After eating seven or eight apples, Fang Yi felt better.

After returning to the alchemy room, Fang Yi meditated for a whole day and a night before the true energy in his body was filled again. During this process, Fang Yi was also constantly reflecting on the reason for his failure in alchemy. The problem lies in the third step, that is, the elixir.

Fang Yi originally thought that the elixir could only input true energy into the alchemy furnace, but what he didn't expect was that the alchemy furnace would absorb the true energy in his body by itself.

Fang Yi, who was completely inexperienced, suddenly panicked, but Fang Yi thought about it afterwards that he actually didn't need to be so nervous. The true energy absorbed by the alchemy furnace was not enough to completely dry up his body. The next steps were controlled by his spiritual sense, and he could have successfully refined the Qingxin Pill.

After understanding the cause and effect of the matter, Fang Yi got up and returned to the intermediate court. Looking at everyone's worried gaze, Fang Yi said, "I'm worried, I'm fine."

"Brother, why don't you practice this pill? After all, our cultivation is not enough now." Peng Bin advised him. Peng Bin could imagine how much effort Fang Yi had spent to make a congenital cultivator look like that.

"Brother, this alchemy technique is probably cut off now, so it can be refined so easily." Fang Yi couldn't help laughing when he heard Peng Bin's words. He didn't plan to be able to refine the first furnace of elixirs.

Song Tianyu's family is an alchemy family. Fang Yi once heard him say that if you want to become an alchemist, you often have to stay with a real alchemist for five or six years, starting with identifying the medicinal materials, and then slowly learning alchemy techniques. It is impossible to become a master without more than ten years of hard work.
