Chapter 314 President Roosevelt's Special Envoy

On October 7, Soong Mei-ling delivered a speech at her alma mater, Wellesley College, talking about the important position and role of women in the history of human development.

On October 10, on the National Day of the Republic of China, the bells in the US Capitol bell rang 31 times at the same time, wishing the birth of the Republic of China with many disasters and difficulties in the ocean. This is the first time the United States has expressed friendship to China and the beginning of formal recognition of China's status as a great power.

On October 22, she delivered a speech at the Chicago Sports Stadium, talking about the history of the founding of the United States and its development, and emphasized the necessity of international joint efforts and cooperation. At the same time, she contacted China's War of Resistance and pointed out that international treaties should have practical benefits, otherwise "are nothing but a documentary and lifeless."

Here he secretly accused Britain and the United States of America and other countries of the appeasement policy in the early days of China's War of Resistance. From the perspective of common human civilization, she explained the global significance of China's War of Resistance, saying: "The culture of a country is unique to a country. Therefore, if anything imitating other countries cannot be melted into the daily lives of the people, it will inevitably present its external traces.

China's five-year war of resistance and suffering is proved by facts and not by empty words that the Chinese people believe that the preservation of their own culture is to assist in the maintenance of world civilization. Because we are not complacent about our culture alone, our country is striving to help build a colorful world civilization to ensure that mankind cannot be overthrown and cannot be given up in common with the principle of being able to abide by; how hard it is at present is not considered. The Chinese people firmly believe that these principles are inherent in mankind. Human beings survive and move forward one day, and cannot be accommodated one day."

On October 27, Soong Mei-ling delivered a speech at the San Francisco City Hall. She associates the beauty of San Francisco's landscape to Hangzhou, China and the natural landscape in Fenghua, and then talks about the importance of the joint struggle between China and the United States. It also tells the story of "The Three Fights of Liu, Guan, Zhang, Taoyuan in Chinese classical novels", using this Chinese historical story to illustrate that "those who are united countries currently have a greater goal, that is, to seek human progress."

On the evening of November 2, Soong Mei-ling attended a dinner and delivered a brief speech to a large number of guests. She quoted four anecdotes in Chinese history, showing that China and the Chinese have two excellent qualities: responsibility and honor, and emphasized the traditional virtues of the Chinese people.

On November 4, Soong Mei-ling delivered a speech in Hollywood, Los Angeles, focusing on introducing the historical process and tragic scenes of China's War of Resistance Against Japan.

She said: "To this day, it is well known to the world how Japanese warlords implemented their planned and cruel methods after occupying Nanjing and other areas; how they engage in looting and deprive all the tools of making a living from the frightened people; insulting my women, arresting all the strong men and binding them in one place, like binding animals; and forcing them to dig their own graves, and finally kicking them into the tomb and burying them alive."

He also said: "When he was staying in Hankou, the Chairman and Yu Shi went to various front lines to inspect. They often witnessed hundreds of thousands of compatriots who had lived happily in peace. Now they have become refugees, displaced on the road, bombarded and fired by enemy planes, and there are thousands of corpses waiting to be buried beside the road. This is really shocking and unforgettable."

In her series of speeches, Soong Mei-ling enthusiastically praised the friendship between China and the United States, promoted the actual situation of China's War of Resistance Against Japan, accused Japan of brutal crimes committed during its invasion of China, emphasized the importance of international joint fight against Japanese fascist barbaric aggression, highly praised the achievements of the people of China and the United States in the war, expounded China's history and culture, and the lofty spirit of sacrifice and traditional virtues expressed by the Chinese people in the war, and conveyed the firm belief that the just war will inevitably win.

Stilwell and Weidemai were sitting on the wide sofa, and the tea table in front was already placed on the coffee table. Soong Mei-ling sat on Chiang Kai-shek's right hand, with a charming smile on her face. Chiang Kai-shek smiled lightly at Colonel Weidemai and said with concern: "Col. Thank you for your hard work! Are you still used to living?"

The translator told Chiang Kai-shek what he said, and the colonel said to Chiang Kai-shek with a smile on his face: "Thank you, Chairman! You live well! Your wife is now a household name in the United States, and her eloquence is very good!"

After being polite, he gradually turned to the point. Colonel Wei Demai tentatively said: "Chairman, you are the commander of the China-Myanmar-Indian War Zone. I wonder what you think about the war situation in Myanmar?"

Chiang Kai-shek's eyes lit up and said with great enthusiasm: "Our Chinese Expeditionary Force sent troops under such a difficult situation on the domestic battlefield. After we arrived in Myanmar, the food, ammunition and medicine supplies promised by the British were all invalid. The British army retreated west to India, and only the Chinese Expeditionary Force was fighting hard in the entire Myanmar battlefield.

We are faithfully fulfilling the obligations of the Allied Powers and fulfilling the responsibilities of the Allied Powers. Prime Minister Churchill of the United Kingdom and the commander of the British and Indian Army General Wavell have concerns about our occupation of Myanmar. This is really disappointing and regretful! We China have no intention to compete for ownership of Myanmar or for the interests of Myanmar.

As one of the allies, China is determined to fight against Japan and fight hard in Myanmar. We are still responsible for the responsibilities on our shoulders of the allies. China is willing to continue to bear this responsibility, but Britain's attitude must change and we must work together with China to complete the task of counterattacking Myanmar. China cannot fulfill those obligations without bottom line."

Colonel Weidemai shrugged, "Chairman, your idea is understandable. General Stilwell praised the Chinese people in President Roosevelt many times. The general believed that the Chinese people were one of the best soldiers in the world. However, after all, Myanmar involves China, Britain, and now the interests of the United States. China, the United States and Britain have troops in the war zone. How to coordinate and make them more perfectly exert their combat effectiveness. It is also the purpose of my visit this time."

Chiang Kai-shek picked up the teacup lightly and took a sip of boiled water, "I'll listen to the colonel's great remarks."

Colonel Weidemai thought about the words, "Chairman! You are the commander of the theater, of course you cannot appear in Myanmar and India easily, and China cannot do without your command. President Roosevelt's idea was to set up an Allied Myanmar Command in the China-Myanmar-Indian theater, an Allied Southeast Asia Command. The Myanmar Command was fully responsible by General Stilwell, and the Southeast Asia Allied Command was fully responsible by Lord Mountbatten of the United Kingdom.

In which theater command is under the command of the Allied Forces in the theater, they will accept the command of that command. Of course, it refers to the army of China, the United States and the United Kingdom."
