Chapter 12. Nine Years Old Summer Blown by the Wind(1/2)
It was already six o'clock in the morning when Lao Meng came back from work late. The old men who were running in the morning downstairs of the community were in high spirits. The man in his prime dragged his feet upstairs. Before he could take out the keys, the sound of the wooden door creaking came from behind, followed by the crisp little girl's voice: "Uncle!"
"Do you get up so early during the summer vacation?" Lao Meng said in surprise.
"Hehe, I actually woke up automatically at half past five." Xuezhu said.
The little girl's emotions could not be hidden, so Lao Meng asked lazily, "Oh? Did you encounter something good?"
"Actually, I have something to discuss with you uncle."
"What's the matter?"
No matter how cute Xuezhu's expression is and how soft she is, it cannot stop Lao Meng from blurting out when she heard that she wanted to invite Meng Yuning to go to her grandfather's house in the countryside for the summer vacation: "No!"
Xuezhu tried to convince Lao Meng: "But my parents agreed, and my grandfather agreed."
"I don't agree," Lao Meng turned his head and opened the door, not to be argued. "Meng Yuning is already shameless enough to eat at your house. Now he has to go to your grandfather's house for the summer vacation. He really thinks that your son will not treat himself as an outsider."
Xuezhu frowned and said loudly: "Brother Ningning is not an outsider, and if Brother Ningning played with me, I would find it more fun."
Lao Meng changed his shoes on his own, completely unmoved: "That's not OK."
Xuezhu was so anxious that the arguments of one big and one small woke Meng Yuning who was still sleeping. The boy walked out of the room with his fluffy hair, his eyelids were still drooping, his skin was white, and the traces of the cool mat printed on the side of his face were very obvious.
Lao Meng didn't care whether his son was awake or not, and directly told a lesson loudly: "Meng Yuning, what's wrong with you? Trouble other people all day long. If you like others so much, just give up on your Uncle Pei as your son!"
Meng Yuning said softly, "I didn't agree."
"You didn't agree to Xiaozhu that she came over early in the morning and told me?"
Meng Yuning then turned his neck and saw the little girl standing behind her father, staring at him with wide eyes and smiling foolishly.
"Brother, just go. I really want you to play with me," Xuezhu took off her shoes and ran in barefoot, hugged Meng Yuning's waist, raised her chin and begged, "Go, go."
Meng Yuning just woke up and had no strength, so she moved her waist twice but couldn't break away from her fat hand.
He rubbed his eyes, yawned gently, and said in a sleepy tone: "You let me go first, I want to go to the bathroom."
"No," Xuezhu quickly tightened him tightly, "If you don't agree to me, I won't let you go to the bathroom."
"I really have to go to the bathroom," Meng Yuning frowned and pursed her lips. "What should I do if I pee on my pants?"
Xue Zhu didn't believe it. Now even she doesn't wet her pants anymore. She doesn't believe that Meng Yuning has the courage to pee on the spot: "Then you just pee on your pants."
Meng Yuning was angry and laughed, so she had to use brute force to spread her arms apart.
Xuezhu thought to herself that she couldn't really not let him go to the bathroom, so she went to beg Lao Meng again.
"Uncle! Just let your brother accompany me to my grandfather's house to play! Please!"
She surrounded Lao Meng, like a blooming sunflower, noisy and enthusiastic.
When I went shopping, I saw that I wanted to buy any small things on the street and would be fooled if I didn’t buy them. The soft-hearted ones, such as Pei Lianyi, had to buy them after a few words. The hard-hearted ones, such as Song Yanping, did not care whether she was crying or making a fuss, or she wouldn’t buy them if she didn’t buy them.
Lao Meng had never encountered this attitude. Seeing her turning around, she almost fainted. She thought that others said that having a boy was quarrel and having a girl was quiet, but why did he and Lao Pei turn completely the opposite?
I used to think that my son was too bored, but now, it is better to be bored if compared.
But Xue Zhu is well versed in the way of making trouble and acting coquettish. Lao Meng was surrounded by her. Although he felt noisy and troubled by the little girl, he felt that she had a round face and had a pair of round eyes, and he felt a little enjoyed in his heart... this feeling.
The man Meng Yunjian was sternly wearing Zhang Tieqing's face, and his expression gradually became a little unrestrained.
Fortunately, he still insisted in the end. No matter how the little girl asked for it, he would never allow Meng Yuning to bother others.
Xuezhu lowered her head and turned around and left without saying a word like a defeated little hen.
When Lao Meng looked at her back, he thought to himself that he hadn't done anything to bully the little girl, so why did he seem to be a villain?
As soon as the person left, Lao Meng's sleepiness immediately came up.
I was too lazy to take a shower, so I walked to the inner room in three or two steps and fell asleep.
I slept until nine o'clock and was woken up again.
"Dad," Meng Yuning stood beside the bed and called him, "Xiao Zhu's grandfather is looking for you."
Lao Meng cursed swear words without knowing it, raised his hand to block his eyes with his arms, and finally sat up with the strong willpower of the adult.
When I came out of the room, after Xue Zhu's voice "Uncle, get up", there was a calm and gentle voice that was eroded by age.
"Yun Jian," said the voice with a kind smile, "I haven't seen you since your father's funeral, right?"
Lao Meng was stunned, his sleepiness disappeared, and he finally saw clearly the old man in front of him.
He sat on the sofa with half white hair and a straight back, but his shoulders looked a little thin because of his age. The original color of the simple old-fashioned shirt was a little washed out, but it was still clean and tidy. Even the cuffs that were most likely to wrinkle were neat and meticulous.
It was many years since I first met this father's friend. I couldn't remember how many years it was, nor how old it was when he was. It was not until my father passed away last year that Lao Meng met the old man again.
The energetic old man stood in front of the spiritual position, was pressed down by sadness and slowly hunched down, and a long sigh came out from his lips.
The old man did not cry, nor did he shout that the two sides of the yin and yang were separated. However, he still stood there for a long time after the funeral, but he said goodbye to his friends quietly, and finally raised his hand to wipe away the tears from the corners of his eyes.
Lao Meng shouted politely: "Uncle."
He sighed in his heart, and he couldn't refuse this time.
Looking at Xue Zhu standing beside the old man with a happy smile, I thought to myself that this little girl was quite clever and knew to bring the elders out to speak.
When he nodded and agreed, Xue Zhu almost jumped up in excitement.
"Wow! That's great!"
Then she ran to Meng Yuning and wanted to pull him to dance together, "Brother, you can go to grandpa's house with me!"
Meng Yuning stood quietly, not as crazy as Xue Zhu, but looked at his father again.
Lao Meng nodded gently and instructed: "Go to grandpa's house and be obedient, don't cause trouble for the old man."
After receiving a positive answer, the boy's clean and gentle pupils truly emitted a light of joy. His extremely restrained expression was just to let Xue Zhu laugh and make fun of him. After returning to the room, he packed his clothes and became lighter and lighter as he felt.
When his son was packing his clothes, Lao Meng reminisced about the old man in the living room.
"How is your current job?" the old man asked.
Lao Meng said: "It's okay, it's mainly quite stable, and can barely support two people."
The old man nodded: "Okay, just be stable."
"Uncle, I'm so embarrassed. Please take care of Meng Yuning."
"Ningning is happy to play with Grandma Xiaozhu and I. Plus he is Changfeng's grandson again," the old man said softly, "Ningning is very similar to his grandfather. You are a father who teaches you well."
Lao Meng pursed his lips and lowered his head in shame: "He has a natural personality and has nothing to do with me. Maybe he is his grandfather who has inherited it."
The old man narrowed his eyes and smiled slightly.
The tough guy, Lao Meng, was rarely embarrassed and smiled wryly, "I was ignorant when I was young, but now I really have no face to talk to you, uncle."
The old man patted Lao Meng on the shoulder and said gently: "You have brought Ningning here to move in now. If your father knew about it, it would be very happy. Living a safe life is better than anything else. Let the past pass."
"Grandpa, brother has packed his things, we can set off!"
Xue Zhu ran out of Meng Yuning's room and said excitedly.
The old man stood up with his knees when he heard this: "Okay, go back and say goodbye to your parents, and we will set off."
Song Yanping told Xue Zhu a few words to tell her not to forget to ask her grandmother to take her to the piano store to learn the piano every weekend. Xue Zhu agreed. The few hours she went to the piano store to learn the piano were nothing at all. Being forced to practice the piano every day at home is the main reason why she doesn't like the piano.
For Xuezhu, the preparation process for leaving for grandpa’s house was the happiest.
It’s like the school organizing a spring outing, preparing snacks the day before, or running home from school on Friday afternoon, the excitement and expectation in my heart will be expanded to infinite.
Grandpa came because of retirement wages. They first followed his grandpa to the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. When the old man was doing business, Xuezhu sat in the hall and Meng Yuning waited. During this period, Xuezhu looked left and right, and his mouth kept stopping. When he saw everything, he would pull Meng Yuning's sleeve and tell him. Just as he was talking, Meng Yuning suddenly covered Xuezhu's mouth.
“Would you be quieter?”
Xuezhu opened his hand and said, "I'm so happy today that I can't calm down."
Meng Yuning: “…”
Fortunately, my grandfather was doing things faster and he could leave in a short while.
When she got on the bus to her grandfather's house, Xuezhu's excitement did not last long. She was a little motion sick. As the bus drove, the scenery outside the window gradually became flatter and wider, and the road became more and more bumpy.
The best way to treat motion sickness is to sleep.
Xuezhu sat on grandpa's lap. The old man was very thin. Xuezhu leaned against grandpa's chest. Every time the car bumped, the hard chest bones on grandpa's chest would be knocked by grandpa's hard chest. Fortunately, grandpa gently stroked her head. Even though the sleep conditions were difficult, she still fell asleep quickly.
Meng Yuning sat by the window, holding his chin with his hands, watching the fields and the sky intersect. The plain terrain occasionally fluctuated, passing by like a wavy line, and the whistling wind rubbed against his ears, blowing away sweat caused by the too stuffy temperature in the car.
"Are Ningning sleepy? If you are sleepy, you will sleep for a while. When I come, I will call you." Grandpa said.
"good."
At this time, the middle-aged woman in charge of collecting the fares was urging passengers to pay in a dialect: "If you have change, you can get change, if you have one hundred, you can't find it. If you don't charge coins, you can only charge bills."
It was so noisy that the two children actually slept so well.
The old man thought.
I woke up and got home.
Grandpa’s house is a two-story self-built house. In front of the house is peppers and vegetables, surrounded by a circle of fences. Grandma’s hens take elegant walks around the fences, eyeing the plants in the vegetable garden.
At noon, my grandma cooked a table of good dishes, and each dish was loved by Xuezhu. My grandma killed a chicken and bought a big grass carp, which was extremely rich.
