17. The Decline and the Strong (Part 1)

.Imagine what it would be like to be a strong and cowardly elephant who would trample on a frozen mouse with all his might. Then you will know what the Battle of Stone Fort would be like.

Although the colonial army had insufficient training, disordered system, unscrupulous command of experts, unclear strategic planning, etc., there were a series of fatal flaws, but the absolute advantage of strength was there, and the hundreds of elves in the stone fort who were short of food and bullets could not stand it. In fact, before the total attack, the elves on the city wall had to walk and patrol because of the heavy casualties. There was no way, and tens of thousands of people were surrounded outside the city like a market rushing to the market.

On average, a patrolman, a man, a woman, a young man, and a young man who fired a cold gun, had more than 200 guns aimed at him. Although the gunshots were so odor that they could not be more odorous, there were a few who even bought lottery tickets with such a large base. But the defenders could not choose to counterattack or fight back. As soon as they left the city, all of these amateur snipers escaped; if they shot against each other, they would all hide behind bushes or rocks, not to mention whether they could fight or not, even the pitiful stock in their bullet box was not enough.

In desperation, the unlucky elves soldiers had to degenerate from walking upright to walking with all their limbs. While staring at the flash of muzzles not far away with an angry look, they were waiting desperately for the arrival of the last moment. They were all declining people who were driven out by the Arctic Port because of the failure of internal fighting, and had nowhere to return. The cruel killing of the residents of the Northern State in this winter blocked the road to surrender. Although the world was big, these elves had nowhere to go. They could only watch death approaching their heads step by step.

Although the stone fort is the prefecture of the northern prefecture and is one of the few military centers in the New World with city wall protection. However, it was originally a small city of 7,000 or 8,000 people. After many battles between the two sides, it was even more dilapidated. The solid exterior walls had long collapsed in many places, and the houses in the city were basically burned down, so the defenders could only shrink in the cellar and the central fortress. In winter, the Elf Army once filled the gaps in the exterior wall with ice and snow and soil. But now spring is in full bloom, the ice is melting, and the snow is melting, and the repair is hasty.

The gap that was filled collapsed again. The more intense the cold gun movement outside, the repair work was forced to be postponed indefinitely. For Chairman Zena, who had 30,000 troops and had complete weapons, the remaining enemies of the stone fort were really inferior to the little mice under the feet of an elephant. At least the mice could still escape everywhere, and as soon as the stone fort elves left their broken turtle shell, they could only be buried in the foreign land under the encirclement of tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians - this is not their territory, and there is no place to escape.

However, even if the opponent seemed to be just a frozen mouse, Chairman Zena, the elephant, still used all his strength to step on it. He was determined to win with one blow. The huge army was both strength and pressure. If there were any accidents in such a one-sided battle, she, the commander-in-chief, would not have to continue.

After the main force arrived at the suburbs of Shibao, Chairman Zena did not directly join his own line. Instead, he first used other miscellaneous cards to conduct a tentative attack. After a series of screening, the remaining troops of more than 2,000 New World Army, who were least welcomed, gloriously gained the opportunity to sacrifice their lives for the country again and stood on the front line tremblingly. In order to enable these guys who had the secrets of escape and rebellion to establish a firm sense of combat. Chairman Zena also sent a selfless supervision team.

Before the battle begins, all artillery troops are unified by the fat lich Owo. It provides long-term fire support for the cannon fodders about to attack. The purpose of the artillery attack is not only to reduce casualties of the attacking troops, but also to act as a shock and attract the enemy's hidden firepower - if there is really that kind of thing.

"All artillery, prepare for volleys!"

"The orientation is about...10 degrees northwest to the west. The elevation angle may be...it will try 15 degrees first!" As the observer lacked confidence in reporting, several relatively skilled lieutenants rushed to adjust the parameters of the cannon, while the strong loaders used huge iron rods to stab the solid bullets and shot drugs into the cannon, making a "crunching" sound.

"Recharge is complete!"

"Aiming is finished!"

"Very good, retreat all." Owo yawned, shook his command knife back casually, and issued an order that absolutely violated any artillery regulations. The artillery soldiers threw down their tools like amnesty and ran towards the bottom of the position, as if some monster was catching up with them.

"It's true, it's just a few skeletons, so you're too brave." Owo murmured a few times, then raised a rough black magic wand. Since all the valuable things on him were stripped away by Al to pay off his debts, he had to make do with Ferri's old magic wand from his student days for a while, which made the noble Arcanist feel very uncomfortable.

"...Oh no, the gesture seems to be wrong... Why didn't you react? Do it again... Damn it, this tattered fire stick is really not easy!"

In many consecutive attempts

The large number of human bones piled on the front of the position finally began to clatter with a crackling sound of skeletons standing up under the magic drive, wandering around in a daze. Owo narrowed his eyes and focused on manipulating the skeletons to their respective gun positions, replacing the gunners who had already hidden in the trenches to carry out the last and most dangerous ignition work before the artillery bombardment, but...

"You lazy cowards! Why did you run away without even preparing torches? Do you want me to use ghost fire to ignite the fuse?"

The smoke of gunpowder was filled with rumbling sound of cannons.

Under the lead-gray clouds, more than 400 artillery deployed on the high ground outside the city opened fire one after another. As the shells continued, a thick layer of fog as thick as white floes quickly enveloped the position. In the air, the tail flames of the shells flew across the sky like meteors. The fires inside and outside the stone castle flashed and exploded continuously. Bricks and tiles and broken wood flew in the air under the flames, and even the earth seemed to be jumping.

Of course, there were explosions from time to time on the artillery positions on the high ground. The flying iron filings and scattered white bones fully demonstrated the cruelty of the battle. The problem was... it seemed that the Elf Army had not even shot a single shell!

"Fifteen hit the city wall, about sixty flew into the city, and at least two cannons exploded." Standing on another high ground serving as a command post, Feili carefully observed the artillery battle with a telescope. "The hit rate was very strong, but there was no trouble at all. According to the signal from Owo, the next round of artillery will begin in about half an hour."

"It takes half an hour for each round of artillery? It's too slow!" Chairman Zena frowned in dissatisfaction. She was also observing the current situation of the battle. Through the telescope, she could clearly see the artillery soldiers leaping out of the trench below the mountain under the whip of the girl, carrying heavy ammunition boxes and running towards the position more than half an inside and a half outside, preparing for the next round of artillery. "According to Caodian, the artillery speed of the regular army should be at least two per minute. Why are your people sixty times slower?"

"There is no way, this is the fastest speed. The regular army will not use such inferior artillery that is only suitable for suicide." Faced with the boss' accusation, Feili shrugged helplessly, "Because the explosion situation is too common, shells and injection medicine can only accumulate in hidden places far away from the position. Otherwise," he spread his hands up and made a gesture of explosion. "So during each round of artillery attacks, the gunner must first carry the ammunition from the hidden places up the mountain, clean up and load, and then escape back to the hidden places, and the skeleton soldiers of Owo will ignite the cannon. The journey of the round is nearly two miles alone, and you have to go up and down the mountain. It is quite fast to shoot one round in half an hour!"

Chairman Zena put down the telescope, and the corners of her mouth seemed to twitch, but she didn't say anything after all, because these cannons were all products of her ordnance factory. After a while, she saw the artillery soldiers carrying large and small bags down the mountain like ants, she finally found another topic.

"Even if the cannons are prone to blowing up, there is no need to set the ammunition depot at the foot of the mountain more than one mile away. Can't you dig a bunker in the opposite direction of the shelling? In this way, the shelling speed should be faster."

Feili shook her head, "I'm afraid this is still not possible. I wonder if you have noticed that the stone castle is clearly in the northwest direction of ours, but there are shells firing south?"

"... It's true," Chairman Zena looked back and looked around. Sure enough, there were several newly exploded craters behind the position. "Does these fools even understand the direction of their muzzles?"

"That's not that no matter how stupid they are, they will not be reversed. The problem is that the materials of casting cannons are not up to standard, which leads to the general deformation of the rifle, and the shells often deflect and even turn around in the air." Feili explained, "So it is extremely dangerous to arrange any force or material within the range of the artillery position with the artillery position as the center of the artillery position and the range of the artillery range as the radius. Didn't you see that I didn't even release a soldier or a soldier around the artillery position?"

Chairman Zena quickly grabbed the telescope and pointed it in that direction. Sure enough, near the artillery position, a large piece of its front was scattered. Hundreds of artillery cannons were thrown alone between the stone fort and the attack position. Apart from the relatively resistant lich Owo, there was no one near the artillery position.

"How can you do this? What if the enemy rushed out of the city to grab artillery? What are you going to block it?" Seeing this strange tactical arrangement, the chairman almost went crazy. Isn't this giving fat meat to the wolf's mouth to cheer up his appetite?
