Chapter 411 The movie-watching experience of the masker

After entering mid-December, "The Pianist" finally landed in North America. As Ryan said, the movie did not premiere, with less than 500 theaters, and it was not worth spending millions of dollars to hold a massive premiere.

This is just an art film with limited audience.

On the night of the premiere, Ryan bought two tickets herself. Charlize Theron, dressed in a face covering, took advantage of the night to walk into the private room of a theater in Long Beach.

"It's not ideal from theaters to gear." After sitting down, Charlize took off his disguise.

Their private room is on the second floor. Ryan looked at it and the attendance rate should have exceeded half. Many of them were young people, obviously because they watched the movie for themselves.

Hopefully they can stick with the end of the video.

This is Ryan's real idea. Although Roman Polansky compressed the film under his strong suggestion, the length was still more than two hours. In such a long dull and cold atmosphere, I don't know how long the young people below can last.

One of the reasons why movies are loved by people and become the world's first-class entertainment method today is definitely one of the reasons why it can lead the audience to experience a completely different world, and the sense of substitution is the most important thing.

Although Spearman played by Ryan is the male lead, he is more of a bystander. Through what he sees and hears, the film describes the various misfortunes that happened in the Warsaw Jewish Quarter, and uses surprising objective brushstrokes to describe the real situation of that period. This objective almost reaches a point of near-cold and preciseness.

The cold and objective nature of the film starts and ends, and it will always run through it. This will be the style that film critics appreciate the most, and it will also be the place that most affects the audience's entry.

If it cannot be substituted, it will seriously affect the viewing effect.

Charlize Theron is not a Jewish person and has no feelings for the past history. She will only focus her attention on the people she cares about.

Of course, the only pianist Spearman she wanted to watch was Ryan.

In 1939, the pianist Spieman was 27 years old. He played on Polish radio every day. World War II broke out and German shells attacked the radio. The staff asked him to leave. He shook his head because he had not finished playing the Chopin piano piece.

Faced with all kinds of difficulties, he resolutely said that he would die at home. But in the face of the pressure of survival, he could only bow his head.

He met his admirable partner on the street and wanted to meet her, but he was helpless in reality. He could no longer go to a coffee shop, a park, or even a seat on the street. He had to go into a ditch when walking.

He was forced to bring a satellite armband on his family. In order to fill his family's stomach and to make a living, he had to sell his partner, the piano, who had accompanied him for many years.

The whole family was driven to a few Jewish quarters surrounded by high walls. He could only sit in the restaurant with his brother's ridicule and other people's strange eyes, playing the piano for those Jewish borers. For a little food, it has nothing to do with dignity, it is just for survival.

He witnessed the Germans' wanton abuse and massacre of Jews countless times. He used his piano-playing hands to carry bricks and dig potatoes. He bowed his head in the face of the cold reality again and again, which was also for survival.

After experiencing the torture of thousands of hardships, he fled from the concentration camp. He hid in the ruins of the Warsaw apartment, and hid like a mouse during the day and at night without seeing the sun.

In order to live, he drank the already turbid water in the spittoon, ate everything that could be used as food, and used all the conditions that could be used, just to survive tenaciously.

A Jewish pianist can only temporarily give up art for the sake of life, gradually from the core of society to being isolated and abandoned and annihilated. Life and dignity seem so helpless when facing the cruel war.

But he never gave up on his life. He never gave up on hope, even though hope was so difficult and so far away.

Some people have harmed him, and some have helped him, including Jews, Poles, and German Nazis.

A Jewish traitor who defected to the Germans finally saved his life, but could not hide his accomplice.

Charlize suddenly thought of the original work that he had read because of Ryan. He understood that Jews are good and bad, Poles are good and bad, and German Nazis are also good and bad. Human positions have completely different manifestations when facing different objects at different times and places.

At the beginning of the movie, it seems that this ending is predicted - when humans face the choice of art and life, they have to temporarily give up romance and choose reality - without life, there will be no art from then on.

Art seems weak and helpless in the face of war, like the last rose trembling with blooming in the cold wind. Although it is still beautiful, how long can this dying weak beauty last? She remembered a metaphor she once heard, war and art are like guns and roses - even in the rain of bullets, roses can bloom in a hurry, but when they bloom, how long can they survive in the cracks of artillery fire?

Finally, he sat back on the Warsaw radio station and played music, everything was as good as yesterday.

More than two hours have passed. Although Charlize Theron is an insider, he essentially likes lively young people. The slow pace and dull and cold style make her feel that these two hours are so long.

Fortunately, there are people she likes in the film. Although her thin appearance seems to worry her, his sacrifice did get a superb performance.

In this movie, his performance is truly impeccable, portraying an artist who has been threatened by death for a long time and is under the pressure of fear.

Especially for a period when he was hiding in the center of Warsaw's neighborhood, hiding in the room. He could not make a sound to make people notice that someone was in the room. When he was looking for food in the room again because of hunger, he accidentally knocked on a stack of porcelain plates. The plates made a sharp and harsh sound. A fierce door slap sound came from the door. He was trembling due to terror, and his eyes were filled with horror. The feeling of at a loss and the disintegration of souls made people worry about him from the bottom of his heart, shivering and heartbroken.

Charlize felt that his heart had been snatched for more than two hours, and kept praying, and it would be over as soon as possible. Whether it was a movie or a war, it would be over as soon as possible.

Although she was not familiar with it, she knew that the film had a strong Polansky personal style. The director tortured the audience from the beginning of the movie, and never felt warm until the end, and was as cold as the streets of Warsaw in winter.

She also understood why Ryan refused to increase his investment in this film. If such a film can achieve a high box office, it would be a miracle.

Charlize Theron looked at the audience below again. Perhaps there were not many people who left the show halfway, or perhaps because of the theme and style of the movie, the audience's response was not very enthusiastic.

In fact, as far as she herself is concerned, abandoning the film's strong personal style and heavy themes, "Pianist" is indeed not as exciting as "Schindler's List".

In other words, it's too dull.

Judging from Charlize's own experience in his career, the influence of this movie is probably far less than that of "Schindler's List". The order of birth is one aspect, and whether it can attract audiences is the most important aspect.

Without audiences, the movie is actually nothing.

Perhaps it was a subtle influence that she agreed with Ryan's point of view very much.

"Dear, what do you think?" Ryan pulled Charlize Theron out of the gods and reminded, "It's almost time for us to leave."

"It's nothing, I just see the image above you, and I feel that this is not the Ryan I love." Charlize first armed himself as a face covering man, and then put on sunglasses and hats for Ryan. "I feel that you in the movie are even more miserable than those who came out of the poorest slum in Johannesburg."

"When I was the thinnest, my weight fell below 130 pounds." Ryan pulled her out of the theater. "At that time, all my skin was broken, and I was completely deformed."

"Your efforts will be rewarded." Charlize knew what Ryan's goal was, "Your movie..."

"No, no, Charlie." Ryan shook his finger, "Strictly speaking, this is a Roman Polanski movie. Don't watch movies cold and dull, but it actually has a strong personal style and emotion."

After opening the door for Charlize, Ryan went around to the other side and got into the driver's seat. "Although I don't like it very much, I have to say that Polansky's perspective is objective enough."

After Ryan started the car and drove into the empty beachfront avenue, Charlize rolled into a microphone with one hand and smiled and sent it to Ryan, "So, Mr. Jenkins, what do you think the movie tells? What profound theme does it contain?"

"The video tells how a Polish pianist was persecuted by the German Nazis..."

"That's it? Nothing else?" Charlize waited for a long time, but he didn't wait for Ryan to say something below.

"That's it, isn't I right?"

Of course, Ryan will not say such words to the media, and only when facing the closest people can he express his true view of the movie in his heart.

He did make great efforts in this movie, and many parts of the movie have also changed a lot from his previous life, especially about the scenes of Spearman playing the piano.

Ryan has excellent piano skills. He is all in person in all these shots. Polansky also uses live recordings. Just this point, Adrian Brody in his previous life cannot be compared with him.

With the release of "Pianist", Ryan's team ushered in the most important task of this awards season, striving to win the nomination for Best Actor. As for Best Picture and Best Director, they will also be reported. If nothing unexpected happens, these two nominations will be something in the pocket.
