Section 53: The March is Obstructed

"Tun, open, open~~~." On the muddy road, travelers heard strange sounds, and they couldn't help but stop and look in the direction where the sound was heard. The first thing that was exposed in the direction of the horizon of the field was the top of a flag, slowly like the rising sun in the morning. When the full picture of the flag was revealed, travelers saw that the flag was flying with a black lion pattern, and under the flag was a marching army. At the front of the team was a boy beating a drum. The soldiers in the team stepped forward with the sound of drum beats. They carried leather bags on their backs, and holding and carrying extremely long spears in their hands. When they lined up in two rows of long snakes, they looked like a strange snake covered with long thorns from a distance.

"Which lord's army is this?" asked a farmer with forage on his back. The nobles' army often marched between mutual territories, and as long as they were not hostile families, they were generally at peace, but the flag of this army appeared here for the first time.

"Go to it~~~." At a time when travelers were curious, several horse-riding people came from the other end of the muddy road. People knew where the lord's fortress in this territory was where the lord's fortress was located, and the lord's second son was running towards this army.

"The troops stopped moving forward, rest." It was Arod's army wearing the black lion flag, and it was the Swiss John Berg who led the army. When he saw several squires riding horses in front of him blocking the way, he immediately ordered the troops to stop.

"Who are you, nobles? civilians? or robbers?" A young man slowly walked out of several squires riding horses. He had soft and thick short golden hair and was wearing a Germanic robe. The black lining was exposed under the oblique part of the robe. He paused with the reins tightly and walked forward a few steps.

"Great Lord, I am John Berg, the courtier of the Earl of Mecklenburg. I am about to lead the army of the Earl of Mecklenburg to Mason County, where to wait for the Earl of Earl." John Berg knew that if he could not prove his identity, the local lords would probably treat them as robbers. The medieval Europa continent was rampant. The local lords were very wary of outsiders.

"The army of the Count of Mecklenburg." After hearing Johnberg's words, the young man not only did not relax his vigilance, but instead showed a look of alertness. He immediately turned his head and rushed back to his team.

"What's going on?" John Berg looked at the other party's actions strangely, and saw that the people seemed to have discussed for a while, and immediately returned to the direction they came. This scene made John Berg feel a little bad. But after thinking about it, they did not offend the other party.

"Go forward, the Count is still waiting for us." After waiting for a while, everything seemed calm. Johnberg decided to ignore these strange locals, so he ordered the German mercenary group to continue moving forward. When the drum beats sounded again, the German mercenary group continued to advance. After walking for a while, a canyon appeared in front of them. There was a stone bridge at both ends of the canyon, and there was a turbulent river water below the stone bridge. If you want to reach the opposite territory, you must pass the stone bridge, but a fortress with a watchtower was built next to the stone bridge. The gate of the fortress was tightly closed, and the walls were silent.

"What's going on? Is this bridgehead fort abandoned?" Johnberg looked at the silent fortress and felt a strange atmosphere in the air. It was an indescribable feeling that only those who stayed on the battlefield for a long time and survived.

"Wow~~~." At this moment, there was only the sound of the rushing river water under the canyon. John Berg instinctively wanted to avoid the detour here, but the sent Javelin cavalry came back and told him that there was only one way to go. Looking at the dark and deserted small fortress wall, John Berg felt even more uneasy.

"Send a few two-handed swordsmen to the stone bridge first." John Berg ordered the swordsmen behind him. Several two-handed swordsmen immediately walked up to the stone bridge with their swords carefully. The stone bridge was narrow and could only allow a horseman to pass through. The swordsmen walked forward but nothing happened. They thought John Berg was too nervous, so they relaxed their vigilance. Just as they walked to the center of the stone bridge, they suddenly heard a whizzing sound of breaking through the air from one side of the watchtower.

"Be careful." Among the swordsmen, there was a big man with golden hair. He shouted loudly to his companions, and immediately raised his sword with both hands, swinging the sword in alternating hands. The sword edge danced like a windmill, and the several arrows flying over were knocked to the ground by the sword edge. The other swordsmen took the opportunity to retreat. At this time, the arrows from the bridgehead were getting denser and denser, and most of the arrows shot into the turbulent river water and made a ploppy sound. If John Berg had not ordered the flexible and maneuverable swordsmen to test first, if the dense team of spearmen passed first, they would have suffered heavy losses.

"What's going on? Why did they attack us?" Johnberg looked at the archers who were emerging from the fort at this time, and they all looked like a war. They bent their bows and arrows at the German mercenaries. If it weren't for a long distance, they would surely shoot arrows without hesitation.

"Mr. John Berg, these people seem to be very hostile to us." The blonde man who first issued a loud warning was the crazy Andrew who had stayed in the ranks of the Desperate. He is now the captain of the two-handed swordsman team of the Desperate, serving Arod with his superb swordsman skills.

"Didn't they see our flag? What a fuck." Another person who retreated from the stone bridge was Rex. He survived the Battle of Rostock and found that life in Arod's team was pretty good, and the two-handed swordsmen required maneuverability and quick raids, so they were not strict in training, but their living standards were at the level of regular troops, which made Rex, who had once wandered around and committed crimes, and more importantly, Arod never owed the military pay.

"There must be something strange here. Give me the Earl's flag." Johnberg asked the flag officer to hand the flag to himself, and then walked towards the fortress alone with big strides. The other officers were surprised to call him, but it was too late.

"Stop, or we will shoot arrows." The people in the fort also saw John Berg's actions. They shouted loudly to John Berg approaching him, and pointed the bow and arrow at him.

"I am not hostile, I only ask for a talk with the Lord." Johnberg held up the flag representing Arod in his hand and issued a negotiation request to the people on the wall. As a civilian, he was not qualified to negotiate with the nobles, but when he held the flag of the Earl of Mecklenburg, he was negotiating with the other party on behalf of Arod, and as a noble, he could not refuse.

"I am the lord of this canyon area, Baron Marcus Smith, the patriarch of the Smith family." Hearing John Berg's negotiation request, the face of a middle-aged man appeared from the wall. He wore a baron's crown on his head with long blonde hair and a Germanic robe. His expression was full of hatred for John Berg. He held the wall with both hands and revealed his identity to John Berg.

"Dear Baron Marcus, I am the Earl of Mecklenburg~~~." Johnberg grabbed the flag with his left hand and put his right hand on his chest to bow to the other party. When he was about to reveal his identity, he was interrupted by Baron Marcus above.

"I know who you are, abominable robber."

"Bandit? Baron Marcus, you may have misunderstood. It is the first time we have stepped on your territory and we know nothing about it." John Berg looked up in surprise. He didn't understand why Baron Marcus said that.

"Don't deny it. Just a few days ago, your people came here with the same flag. I also graciously invited them in the fortress, but what did they do? Not only did they steal the golden holy artifacts from my prayer room, but they also looted the villages in my territory. What is this not a robbery?" Baron Marcus accused John Berg angrily.

"What? Lord Baron, as far as I know, we are all here, and no one left the post without permission, what's wrong with this." John Berger defended.

"Wrong? I did make a mistake. I shouldn't have put the robber in. I will not make this mistake again. You and your minions don't want to pass through my territory." Baron Marcus left a sentence and left angrily, when the nobles became stubborn, they could not hear anyone's words.
