Section 6 Reception
The Sixth Drinking Party
"Why didn't a famous general like him teach a few... outstanding disciples?"
"Disciple? I'm half a disciple. But, he said that his military strategy could not be taught to me. Even if it was taught to me, it would have no meaning." Leo sighed regretfully. "I still remember what he said to me, 'Leo, I don't want to hide it. But my strategy is actually nothing special. The textbooks of the noble college have long been clearly recorded. Everything is simple in theory, but it is difficult to put it into practice. These things are not so much the result of learning, but rather talent."
"But I seem to hear him say that Ryan is his disciple."
"That boy? His father is a relative of His Majesty the King. That boy is sloppy and kowtowed to give gifts and entrusted with the back door, and he must study under the disciple of Lord Thomas. But his situation is similar to mine. Thomas had long said that he could teach without reservation, but we could not really learn it. But Ryan did not suffer any loss. At least with the hat of "Thomas' disciple", his future will be much smoother than others. Besides, Lord Thomas has no children, and the baron rank he enjoyed by his next generation may fall directly on the boy's head. This is also a good speculation."
"But, Ashu Rufate, we have become the latest guests in the tavern. I think it would be better for us to leave with William Daly."
The two of them left their seats. William Daly was heavy, but Ashu Rufate carried him on his shoulders without any trouble and walked out.
A small accident happened this evening. The stables collapsed for some reason, causing the horses to run around. The grooms packed up for a while before gathering the horses again. The only unlucky part of the accident was Ashu Rufate, whose tall horse was frightened and ran without a trace. For this reason, Thomas had to comfort him and give him another horse as compensation.
In the next few days, Ashu Rufate was always with Thomas. He thought the old knight was unusual at first, but now he realized that Thomas was no ordinary person. He had great prestige among other knights and undoubtedly became the supreme commander. Although there was no authorization from anyone, every knight who had newly joined the camp regarded him as the commander of the army. His commands were always very clear, clear, and easy to execute, so his subordinates were happy to obey him and executed very quickly.
Thomas was almost not angry and always smiled. But no one would violate his orders. He ate and lived like the most ordinary militia, so the militia loved him very much. When adjusting the conflicts between his subordinates, Thomas was always fair and clever. No one could accuse Thomas of being selfish, and those who did wrong things and even were punished were convinced that they were not treated unfairly.
He was the same with Ashu Rufate. He never regarded Ashu Rufate as an outsider and was very kind to him. When Ashu Rufate followed him to make suggestions, Thomas would never simply refuse or ignore them. No matter how ridiculous this suggestion was proven to be afterwards. His eyes at Ashu Rufate were very similar to a kind father looking at the child, and every time he always touched Ashu Rufate.
At first, Ashu Rufate was just "observing", but a few days later, like everyone else, he regarded himself as Thomas's natural subordinate, and naturally followed Thomas' orders. When he messed up some of the things Thomas ordered, he always reported to the wrong child. Although Thomas never scolded him (because they were all insignificant trivial matters), Ashu Rufate blamed himself.
He also got along well with the other knights. Since he completely defeated William Daly at the table, who slept in bed for a whole day and a night, he became good friends with William Daly and Leo. These two were knights directly under the Earl of Thomas. So as soon as Thomas set out to prepare for the war, they accepted the enlistment and came to the camp.
Now there are two new news - one good news and one bad news. The good news is that a vanguard of the Greyhound Knights, with a number of two or three hundred people, rushed into the trap carefully arranged by Thomas, and was hit head-on, and most of them were annihilated. With such a lesson in the past, the Greyhound Knights might not dare to invade for a while before gathering enough manpower.
The bad news is that the Greyhound Knights received strong support from the Paro people. Due to the continuous rain, it affected the combat readiness of other border lords. Now there are only ten knights (even Thomas himself) and less than two thousand militias gathered in Bereon.
Before Thomas gathered his troops, if the Greyhound Knights could gather a large enough army to launch an attack, it could be said to be a very dangerous situation.
However, Thomas didn't seem to care. Tonight, a large-scale cocktail party will be held in the castle. In principle, this is an aristocratic event, but considering the reality that there are only ten knights, all the militia captains were invited to attend (according to Thomas, these people are all candidates for the knights). In this way, there were fifty or sixty people at the cocktail party, which did not look too cold.
At dusk, Thomas came to Ashurufate's residence. He saw Ashurufate there ready to go to bed without any surprise.
"Young man, have you forgotten the evening reception at the castle?" Thomas reminded.
"No, I'm not interested." Ashu Rufat answered politely.
"This is not a good habit. You should understand that the saying "going to the countryside and following the customs" is not a casual talk. If you want to integrate into the new collective, you should learn new customs. In our Saint-Gen, this kind of wine party is an important activity to introduce yourself to the society. I know that you are from the seven central countries, and there may not be such customs there, but since you are here, you should abide by the customs here."
"Master, I strongly recommend you not to go. If you don't have a suitable dress, attending the party will only make you more embarrassed." In my mind, Carrie reminded me again. But this is actually unnecessary. Because Ashu Rufate himself also understood his reality. In the afternoon, he had already seen Leo wearing the dress with great enthusiasm. He understood that if he attended in daily casual clothes, it would only become a laughing stock for others.
"Sorry, Lord Thomas. But I feel unwell today, and it is really not suitable to attend such a party." Ashu Rufat took out the magic weapon that usually tests all spirits. The reason for "physical discomfort" can always shirk most of the invitations.
Thomas smiled slightly.
"Young man, do you know, seeing you reminds me of something when I was young. At that time, the apprentice knights were popular with the entertainment of giving gifts. Often someone gave a gift to a friend, and if the recipient felt that it was not matched with the gift, he would give the gift to a more suitable person. Until the end, the gift would always fall into the hands of the most suitable person. But if someone gave it inappropriately, he would be ridiculed and regarded as a person with lack of vision."
"At that time, someone gave me a set of clothes and a set of clothes that didn't match my body shape in order to tease me. I wanted to give it to me, but I couldn't find a suitable target when I came back and forth. Because everyone in the army usually wears armor - armor always covers up the real body shape. As a result, I couldn't find a suitable partner for most of the month, and my friends put it on the nickname "Thomas who has no opinion". Until I was promoted to Knight and left, I couldn't give this out, and the nickname was never cancelled. I always thought it was a pity for this matter. However, after a lot of things happened, I gradually forgot. It was not until recently when I packed my equipment that I accidentally found the small gift of that year."
"But when I saw you, I realized that I had the opportunity to completely get rid of that unreputable nickname. Young man, are you willing to accept this gift to make up for the little regret of an old man?"
Thomas took out a neatly folded dress from his body and placed it on the table. Ashu Rufate was stunned for a long time before he came to his senses, and Thomas had already left at this time.
When the last ray of sunset faded away, the world fell into darkness. At this time, the candlelight of the castle was lit. Most of the people were already here in the castle hall where the cocktail party was held. Everyone attending the cocktail party, including the knights and militia captains, knew very well that this was not a simple cocktail party, but an important thing to announce.
"Sir Ashu Rufat is here!"
As the master of celebrating his reputation, Ashu Rufate walked into the hall. William Daly, who was near, greeted him, while others just nodded in tribute. This was normal. The dress he wore was neither particularly luxurious nor simple, and in a normal manner. The princess who everyone expected had not appeared yet, so no one paid much attention to him.
"Earl Thomas is here!"
Thomas walked in. He wore a golden red dress, simple but not tacky. Everyone, including the knights, saluted him one by one, while Thomas thanked him one by one. Then he stood in the forefront of the crowd and waited for the most important person to attend.
"Princess Irina is here!"
Accompanied by this sound, a figure walked in from the entrance.
The clothes Irina wore were almost pure white. The skirt was not particularly long, and the whole set was connected into one, and was only broken by a brilliant silver ribbon reflecting candlelight in the middle. There were no common laces and decorative bands on the clothes, nor patterns or colors, which fully highlighted the girl's youthful and sweet face. She was not yet fully developed and looked delicate and petite. The whole set of clothes was simple and elegant. After entering the hall, Irina stopped and closed her legs together like a queen.
Irina has a kind of pitiful feeling that matches her identity as a princess in trouble. This kind of elegance and luxury, but also lovely, makes people yearn for protecting her temperament, and unconsciously attracts all the men in the field.
Her eyes glanced at the audience and finally stopped on Ashu Rufat, showing a smile that seemed to be crying.
Ash Rufate suddenly felt a sudden instinct, feeling that the princess and her grandfather were not getting along well. But he immediately drove this stupid imagination out of his mind.
He didn't notice Ryan next to him at all. The latter noticed the smile of Irina at Eshu Rufat, and her face turned blue unconsciously.
