Yanfen Thatched Cottage and Xijian Thatched Cottage

Yanfen Caotang and Xijian Caotang are both the library of Jiang Guangyan. The ruins of Yanfen Caotang are located on Donghe Street on the bank of Tongjin Bridge in Qianshi Town, Haining City, Zhejiang Province (formerly known as South Street). They were built around the end of Qianlong. They are in the style of southern Jiangsu. They are surrounded by a warm bridge. The Yanfen Caotang building was originally pawned and the iron gate of Gaoyuan was very strong. The door at the beginning of the door of Yanfen Caotang has a door couplet "Nine Marquises, Ten Thousand Books of Books". Turn left to enter the main gate, there are three halls, and there are plaques of "Baoyi Hall" in the middle. The back is a hall, with three rooms, and a fan in the middle. There is a plaque of "Yanfen Caotang" written by Li Chaosun. The upper floor is the old plaque of the Song and Yuan dynasties, and the back of the Yanfen Caotang is "Yi Zhiju".

There is a tree in the middle, which is a hundred years old. It is the "Xiashan Tower in Beiyuan", and the old collection of Dong Yuan's "Xiashan Tu" is here. The front of the north head is "Wu Yanzhai", and Zhang Tingji's calligraphy is named after the collection of five inkstones written by Fanlong of the Song Dynasty and Chen Laolian of the Ming Dynasty (Hong Shou) and other paintings of plum inkstones. "Wu Yanzhai" later became "Si Buqunzhai", and the plaque was written by Qian Erlin (Qian Taiji's teacher). It was the flower hall of the Jiang family that year. The "Si Buqunzhai" is a collection of books, which is dedicated to Ming Dynasty publications, manuscripts and rare books. The back is "Shuangfeng Stone Room", and the plaque is written by Jiang Guangyi (seal script). Jiang Guangyi still has three library library behind the Jiang Family Ancestral Hall on West Street in Shilan, which stores ancient books of the Ming Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty.

The Xijian Caotang Library is located in Yanpu Town, Haiyan County. It is located in Beihu Town, west of the North Lake and west of the West Jian. It was originally the tomb of Jiang Family in Haining. It is a Jiangnan house with five floors and five bottoms. It was built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. The main entrance has the "Haichang Jiang Family Bing House" at the beginning, and the stone top and stone-carved couplets "Wancang Mountain connects to Beihubei, and also Xiufeng is located in the west of Xijian". The Xijian Caotang originally collected the letters of Jiang Guangyan's ancestors. During the Xianfeng period, all the books in Yanfen Caotang were once collected here.

Jiang Guangyi, the owner of Yanfen Caotang Library, whose courtesy name is Yinfang, and his pseudonym is Yinfang, and his nickname is Jingzhai. He was born in the fifth year of Daoguang (1825) and died in the 21st year of Guangxu (1895). He was the relative of Jiang Guangxu, the owner of the Beishxiazhai. The Jiang family of Haining was originally from Jiangjia Village, Wuxuqiao, Haiyan. In the middle of Qianlong, he moved to the town of Kushi Town, Haining to gather his clans. His ancestor Jiang Yunfeng had four sons after he moved to Kushi. Jiang Guangxu was the second wife and Jiang Guangyi was the fourth wife. He lost his father at the age of 4. He was raised by his mother Xu Anren and his biological mother Cao. The collection of books began with his grandfather Jiang Kaiji (Chuncun), and his father Jiang Xingwei (Luhua)

His father Jiang Xinghua (Jifeng) was more widely acquired and promoted by Jiang Guangqing. Whenever he encountered rare books and rare books in the world, he would spare a lot of money to buy or search for them. When his collection was in full swing, the famous catalogue scholars Qian Taiji, Shao Yichen, Gao Junru and the famous painters Fei Danxu, Weng Luo, and the epigrapher Zhang Tingji lived in Beisha Zhai and often talked about them. His collection of books was stamped with the seal of "Salt Official Jiang's Yanfen Caotang Third Generation". The ancestors of Jiang's family started their business with a wealthy family and created favorable material conditions for the collection of books. The collection of hundreds of thousands of books, including only a few of them and rare ones.

When the collection of Yanfen Caotang was transferred to Xijian Caotang, Zhu Jiayu (Zi Xin) of Haiyan had compiled a copy of the "Xijian Caotang Bibliography", which recorded a total of 1605 books and 24,813 books. Among them, the rare books include 25 Song Dynasty books, 238 volumes, 27 Yuan Dynasty books, 482 volumes, 26 Ming Dynasty books, 1213 volumes, 146 manuscripts and proofreads, and were collected in the Haining County Library. Later, Jiang Guangyi's second son Jiang Qinxu compiled three volumes of "Yanfen Caotang Bibliography Collection", and later Qin Xu's younger brother Shupeng (Keng You), and added them into volumes. The bibliography of each book, the number of volumes (volumes), the number of lines and words on each page, the marks of the book collectors, and the inscriptions of celebrities. Unfortunately, this list was lost in "*".

Jiang Guangyan was not only a famous copycat collector, but also a publisher. He engraved the "Explanation of the Collection of Poems", "A Brief Introduction to Mencius", "Duan's Interpretation of the Interpretation of the Words", "Five Types of Burial Books", "Huixi Medical Cases", "Xu Criticism of the Surgery", "Continuation of the Records of Qian Yiji of Jiaxing", "Records of the Poems of the Penglai Pavilion of Yuanhe Chen Kejia", "Miscellaneous Poems of the Plum Nest", etc. Among them, "Explanation of the Collection of Poems" is considered to be the best foundation since the Ming Dynasty, and Jiang Guangyan also has a certain status in the history of Chinese publishing. Jiang Guangyan also wrote a volume of "Poem Novels" and "Jingzhai Mixed", which contains poems, orderly postscripts, and small notes, and also compiled "Records of the Filial Piety" for his mother, Mrs. Xu.

Yanfen Caotang Library has experienced vicissitudes, but it is still generally well preserved. In the 1950s, Haining City carried out drainage projects and demolished the two front halls in Yanfen Caotang, namely Baoyi Hall and Wuyanzhai. At present, five halls, including Yanfen Caotang Library, Yizhiju, Beiyuan Xiashan Tower, Sibuqunzhai, Shuangfeng Stone Room, etc. Xijian Caotang has been disrepair for a long time. In 1984, the Haiyan County People's Government allocated special funds to repair them according to their original appearance. The famous scholar Yu Pingbo added a plaque of "Xijian Caotang"; the Shanghai Library Director Gu Tinglong wrote the "Yixiu Pavilion" building; the famous ancient building and garden expert Chen Congzhou also wrote the inscription for Xijian Caotang. Yanfen Caotang and Xijian Caotang were listed as municipalities in 1984 and 1986 respectively, and were county-level cultural relics protection units.

Although the books in the two library buildings have experienced many wars such as the Xinhai Revolution and the Anti-Japanese War, the descendants of the Jiang family were able to protect the shortcomings and finally cherish and protect them. After the founding of New China, Jiang Pengqian, a descendant of the Jiang family, donated all the old books collected by his father to the Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Management Committee. They are now stored in the Beijing Library, Shanghai Library and Zhejiang Library respectively.
