Chapter 3 Encountering the Enemy

Lu Xiangsheng went to the stable and looked at his war horses. He had several war horses, some of which he raised himself, and some imperial horses given by the emperor. Although the army is short of food now, there are still some grass and beans for horses. If the war horses are not strong, for them who are far away from the city, they will be considered dead.

When Lu Xiangsheng returned to the main tent, Shanxi General Hu Dawei and Xuanfu General Yang Guozhu had already arrived. They have cooperated well in the past two years, and with the intimidation of Shang Fangjian, they can naturally command the move. Although Shang Fangjian can only kill officers below the deputy general and then report, Yuan Chonghuan was able to kill Mao Wenlong. Although this later became one of his charges, in the face of Shang Fangjian's power, Hu Dawei and Yang Guozhu did not dare to use their own heads to try it.

"See the Governor." Hu Dawei and Yang Guozhu stood up and bowed to Lu Xiangsheng as a tribute. They were all wearing armor, so they could not kneel down.

Yang Tinglin, who was temporarily demoted to praise military officials, was in civil servants' robes, blue robes with patches of egrets on them. He bowed to Lu Xiangsheng and said, "Students meet the general Rong."

Lu Xiangsheng sat behind the commander's case and said, "No need to be polite. I asked you to come, so I wanted you to go back and prepare. After breakfast, I went straight to the camp west."

Hu Dawei and Yang Guozhu looked at each other, their eyes full of worry. Hu Dawei said frankly and said, "Governor, let's go to Jize in the south and join Gao Jianjun (Gao Qiqian). We only have these five thousand old and weak soldiers, and we have no power to fight in the wild."

"Everyone is afraid of the enemy as a tiger, how can the country survive on its own?" Lu Xiangsheng said loudly: "We should be loyal to the country and share our worries! This battle is just death!"

Hu Dawei didn't dare to persuade him anymore, and Yang Guozhu didn't plan to speak. However, only they knew what they were thinking.

After breakfast soon, each camp packed up his things and advanced. It was not easy to pull out the camp. Everything had to be packed, tents, pots, wood, etc. So the infantry marched thirty miles a day, and were busy setting up camps during the rest of the time.

At noon, the team walked to Haoshui Bridge. The team's scout came to report and met the barbarian cavalry.

"How many riders?" Lu Xiangsheng asked with his five-Ming horse, his expression unchanged.

The scout replied: "More than a hundred cavalry."

"Arrange!" Lu Xiangsheng immediately ordered.

Just as an order was issued here, a large stream of smoke and dust rose from afar, and the rumbling sound of horse hooves came soon, and the team began to stir up. Most of the Qing soldiers were one man, three horses or even four horses, but the team of more than one hundred people could reach four or five hundred horses, which was terrifying.

Lu Xiangsheng immediately sent his personal soldiers to overwhelm the team.

"Array!Array!"

"Two legs can't run four legs! If the formation is dispersed, no one can survive!"

"They only have a hundred riders, don't panic!"

...

The shouts in the team were kept, and finally the riots were controlled. They were all border soldiers who had fought old battles. After calming down, they quickly formed the formation under the command of the generals. The three rows in front were musketeers, the archers and the snatchers behind them, and the snatchers and the sword players behind them. The cannons were difficult to move, and they were moving forward in panic. The cavalry of Hu Dawei and Yang Guozhu were arranged on the left and right wings of the infantry. They only had 5,000 troops and not many cannons, so they could only list this kind of formation that resisted the enemy on one side.

Before the formation of the Ming army was arranged, the Qing army's cavalry rushed over. Their clothes were messy, some were wearing white cotton armor, and some were wearing Mongolian robes. They rushed towards the Ming army, who were still adjusting their formation with thunder.

The musketeers who had already stood in the front row were panicked. Some of them were trembling with great difficulty and could not insert the entire strip from the barrel; several bullets would be put in; and there was no idea how much gunpowder had been poured in.

"Ao Oh, ao, ao," the Qing cavalry kept roaring and rushed over quickly. Some were waving scimitars in their hands, but more of them held bows and arrows in their hands.

"Bang", I don't know who fired the first shot, and then "Bang", the "Bang" gunshots continued to sound, and there were some screams of musketeers in the middle, which might have been injured after the blast. Soon, the white smoke produced after the musket was fired and spread in front of the array. Fortunately, the north wind in winter was not small, and they were blown away in a while.

Lu Xiangsheng's skin, which was originally very white, has now turned black, because the Qing cavalry was still a hundred steps away, and the muskets could not hit the enemy. Neither the bird-billed gun, the bowl-billed gun, or the three-eyed gun, they could not hit the enemy. Although the Frangis cannon and the Red Barbarian cannon could be hit, the incident happened suddenly and has not been set up yet.

"Let the musketman recharge!" Lu Xiangsheng shouted loudly: "Three consecutive shots! If you dare to cast without orders, kill! Archers, volleys! Crossbowman prepare!"

After the musketeers, the archers were quite calm and started shooting arrows under the command of the officer. Although at this distance, using the bow and arrow with a maximum pulling force of 60 to 80 kilograms in their hands may not cause much damage to the enemy, but it is successful to slow the enemy down. After all, the rushing force of the war horses is not something they can stop. As for the pulling force of their war bows, those who are short of wages and food now, even if they give them a hard bow of more than 100 kilograms, they will not be able to drive them.

The rate of fire of the bow and arrow was much faster than that of the musket. Three rounds of fire had been fired in a few breaths. The rain of arrows finally caused a little casualties to the enemy, causing the Mongolian cavalry to turn their horses, circled around to the right, and passed by more than twenty steps from the flank of the Ming army.

The Mongolian cavalry on the war horses turned sideways and began to shoot arrows into the Ming army's army. They had good accuracy. Even on the speeding war horses, many could hit the Ming army's necks and ribs. There was no protection in these places, and those who were shot on the arrows stood up. The Ming army's horse teams were very few and did not dare to attack, so they could only fight back with bows and arrows and hand guns, but the results were very little.

"Boom", "Boom", "Boom"...
