Chapter 1 This road is my drive

Updated: 2012-03-22

It is the spring season, and the willow branches on the roadside spit out fresh green, and the small green buds are like babies, tender and energetic. The tenacious grass flips over the small stone pressing on the head, stretches its waist, and gradually stretches its body. The morning dew is crystal clear, just like the pearl necklace hanging on the neck of the grass, shining by the sun, and there is a different kind of youthful charm in its colors.

There were not many pedestrians on the wide and flat official road from Bazhou to Youzhou. In the sixth year of Daye, many men from the villages in Hebei were recruited to Bianzhou, where canals were dug in the Songzhou area. Now the project has reached its final stage. There is a group of young men on the official road, who are laborers returning from Songzhou.

Although there was not much money left in the hands of these hard laborers after layer by layer of exploitation, I had been away from home for more than a year, and the packages on everyone's back were filled with hundreds of yellow flesh. At that time, although the wind of justice in the officialdom had spread, the administration was still affected by the Kaihuang period when Emperor Yang of Sui was succeeding to the throne, and officials did not dare to plunder the people too much. (Note 1)

These seven or eight men were farmers from a small village called Fangcheng 130 miles north of Bazhou. After the matter in Songzhou, they received their wages and made an appointment to go home together. They came back from Songzhou thousands of miles away. Although the world is still peaceful, no one dared to say whether they would be lucky enough to meet a few robbers who want money but not life. Everyone took care of them while walking together, and they were all fellow villagers and could trust each other.

They were holding a five or six-foot-long whistle stick in their hands, chatting and laughing at each other. The so-called whistle stick is just a nice name, but it is actually just a wooden stick more than one meter long. During the Kaihuang period of the Great Sui Dynasty, Emperor Gaozu Wen issued an order to confiscate weapons from all over the world. Ordinary people are not allowed to carry privately hidden sharp blades, but the wooden sticks do not fall within the category of weapons. (Note 2)

"Brother Wu San, let's take a few more steps today. How about staying in Niutou Village?"

A young man who looked ten years old, rubbed his cuffs with his snot on his lips and asked the strong man walking in front. His name was Li Sanfu, his name was vulgar and he had no word for pronunciation. He didn't have that many etiquette. The boy from the Xu family next door always joked about his indecent name. In fact, is that guy's name elegant? His name was Li Sanfu, and the guy who only knows how to bury people was called Xu Sanduo, whose courtesy name was Wangcai.

After asking, he subconsciously held the heavy package on his back, feeling that the money was still there, and he felt at ease. These people were working in the river for so long that they had been away from home to work exhausted in the river, just to make some money to make life better.

The strong man was named Wu Lailu, who was at home and was the leader recommended by this group of people who went out to sell coolies in Fangcheng. He also had two short-lived brothers, and neither of them lived for three months. In fact, he was the boss of the family.

I don’t know if his two brothers saved up their lifespan and blessings to this third brother. Wu Lailu not only grew up, but also strong as if he was a cow. He was also energetic. He was thirty-four years old and had a son and a daughter at home. When his daughter was not yet full month old, he left the village to Songzhou. Now that he thought about it, his daughter was over one year old. Thinking about his wife who had to take care of the elderly and children alone, he couldn’t help feeling guilty.

"Sanfu, it will take at least six or seven hours to get to Niutou Village. By then, it will be dark. Although it is peaceful on the official road, it is not at ease to rush through the darkness. Brother San knows that you miss home, don't everyone be the same? Let's go faster now, try to get to Northeast Ann Village before noon, and go on the road after eating in North Ann Village. Before dark, you can reach Linchengpu and spend the night there. Get up early tomorrow and get home before noon."

Liu Laizi is the oldest person in this small team. When others asked him about his age, he always lied about how old he was. The village posted a notice to recruit people to open a Ji Canal in Songzhou, and he wanted a strong man under forty years old. He was actually fifty-one and insisted that he was thirty-nine. He had no one at home, and his family was not hungry after eating and eating. Although he was tiring to open the canal, he could still give more than a thousand meats to eat and live. Why not do it?

Looking at Li Sanfu's anxious look, Liu Laizi smiled and said, "Sanfu, are you a little bastard in a hurry to go home to marry a wife? Don't worry, if you go back one day later, the little girl in Pengjiazhuang can't run away! The girl only grew a piece of grass when you left, and now she's back, and a flower is just about to bloom!"

Li Sanfu's face turned red when he said it, and he defended himself: "I...I don't marry a woman, I just miss my mother."

Wu San Ge smiled and said, "Uncle Laizi, don't joke about Sanfu. But you, the meat you earned with hard work is good, but don't stuff it into the bellybands of the foxes in Baoyue Tower."

Liu Laizi smiled embarrassedly: "Where can it be! I keep this money useful!"

Li Sanfu asked curiously: "Uncle Laizi, what's the use of keeping money?"

Liu Laizi gritted his teeth: "I want to hold a child to raise it. The incense of the old Liu family cannot be cut off in my hands!"

Everyone was stunned and then changed their impression of Liu Laizi, an old scoundrel who was proficient in eating, drinking, drinking, gambling and other things.

As he was speaking, a crisp sound of bells came from behind, and a rough shout: "The person in front of me quickly let me go, shocked my big green mule, and carefully kicked your butts!"

Everyone looked back and saw several carriages coming from behind. The car in front was a pretty agile blue mule. The person driving the car was wearing a straw hat on his head. Seeing that his clothes were soap clothes and black boots, they were obviously from wealthy families. Everyone was from small villagers. Although they hated the arrogance of the carriage driver, they did not dare to provoke him and obediently made way.

The person who drove the car saw everyone give way, hummed, "You know what you are, otherwise the whip will tear your skin."

This man speaks roughly and has a very awkward accent.

He was just showing off, but he saw the curtain of the carriage uncovering a gap. A delicate little girl poked her head out of the gap and said, "Ge Taihu, Miss is still in the car, and her mouth is full of dirty words, take your skin first!"

This little girl hasn't reached her peak yet, and she looks like she is only twelve or thirteen years old. She looks very pretty and tender, but her eyebrows are full of disgust for the driver. The driver seems to be afraid of this little maid, so she quickly apologized and never dares to speak out loud again. (Note 3)

Wu Lailu stood by the roadside and waited until the carriage had passed before continuing to rush. There were three carriages in total. The carriages looked quite luxurious. They probably came from officials and officials. They had just left Bazhou at this time. It was probably the family of the official and the family was going to go to the spring. Wu Lailu had always been able to hide from these noble people. First, they could not afford to provoke, and second, they felt disgusted.

Everyone looked at the carriage from afar and was guessing who the carriage belonged to. Suddenly, a sound of horse hooves trampling on the ground came from behind. Everyone had learned the lesson from the previous incident, and before the people behind spoke, they made way. Before they could turn around, the horse had already raked past everyone's bodies. Liu Laizi hid slowly and was almost knocked down by the horse. He was a scoundrel, and he opened his mouth in his heart and cursed a few times. The knight on the horse turned around and looked at him coldly, ignoring it. However, this look was like a knife, as if he had directly looked into Liu Laizi's heart.

"Botawu?!"

Wu Lailu looked at the horse running over and whispered three words in disbelief.

"Third brother, what did you say about treading the black?"

Li Sanfu came over and asked.

"No, nothing."

Wu Lailu's face changed and he did not explain anything to Li Sanfu. He was afraid that if he explained it himself, he would scare these timid companions. Botawu is a famous BMW of the Khitans outside the Great Wall. It is hard to buy a thousand gold coins. Even the Khitan royal family is proud to have a pure Botawu. Wu Lailu once visited the territory of the Khitans in the northern part of the Great Wall and was very impressed by this kind of BMW horse. A BMW is not how to scare people, and the knight on the horse's back does not seem to be the Khitans on the northern part of the Great Wall. The reason why Wu Lailu changed his face was because he happened to know that within a radius of hundreds of miles near Youzhou, there might be only two such BMWs.

The first place is the army of Luo Yi, the general of Hu Ben of Youzhou.

The second place is the largest and most fierce horse thief Tiefutu in Hebei.

Liu Laizi approached Wu Lailu and whispered with a cold face: "Third brother, it seems that we can't hurry to travel today."

Wu Lailu nodded, and the man riding a horse behind him was obviously stepping on the plate.

It is impossible that it is the Youzhou Tiger Ben Jingjia, then it can only be the group of horse thieves who eat people and don’t spit bones.

Liu Laizi sighed and said, "There should be a delicate lady in the car. It seems that she can't end up with a good ending. I don't know which group of people are targeting me. It's really unlucky!"

Wu Lailu whispered: "Tiefutu"

The three words scared Liu Laizi so much that he changed his face and could not even move his steps. His body trembled involuntarily, and a layer of cold sweat immediately appeared on his back.

"I will live in Northeast Bank Village today and leave tomorrow morning!"

Wu Lailu said something without any doubt, but did not explain, but was worried about the people in the car.

While walking with his head silenced, a boy in his teenage years flashed from behind the stones on the side of the road. The boy was wearing a short robe, which looked like a top-notch product, but there were a few black and greasy balls on his chest, and there were still a lot of dust. The boy's straight and shiny hair was covered with a few tender green grass leaves, just looking at his clothes, a beggar. However, the boy's handsome and handsome face made people feel very comfortable to look at. His lips and teeth were red. If he was a few years older, he would have changed into a brocade dress, he would definitely be a handsome young man.

He was holding a hard bow that was about the same height as his, and behind him was a quiver. There were dozens of feather arrows full of them. On one side of the quiver was a strangely shiny knife without sheaths.

"I planted this tree, and I drive this road. If you want to pass by it... it's better to get out of here quickly. Don't go the road ahead."

The handsome young man held a hard bow that was as tall as him, and held a feather arrow in his right hand. He looked at the seven or eight strong men without any fear, but instead had a bit of a smile.

Note 1: The meat is good. Emperor Wen of Sui recast five coins and prohibited the bad coins issued during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. This money has "good meat on the back, and all have Zhou Guo, each of which weighs 1,000 yuan and 4 jin and 2 liang", so the people call it good meat. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, it was used as currency nationwide as both silk cloth.

Note 2: This ruler is a Han ruler, each ruler is about 23.1 cm.

Note 3: The age of the hairpin was called the year of the hairpin when a woman was fifteen years old.
