Chapter 011 Liu Xiaojie's Competitors

In domestic news reports, there are news that urban management and hawkers conflicts from time to time. In fact, it is also difficult to do business on the streets of New York.

If you want to be legal, you must apply for a license. Licenses can be roughly divided into three categories.

The first category is the veteran stall license, which is only allowed to apply for veterans, and the amount is not online. The second category is the food stall license, with a maximum of 3,000 pieces issued in New York. The third category is the general stall license, which is the maximum of 853 pieces issued in New York.

In other words, except for veterans, there are only 3,853 street stalls on the streets of New York, but the actual number is at least ten times the upper limit.

Those vendors who do not have legal licenses may receive fines at any time. They can cost one or two hundred dollars, and at most, they can cost five hundred or even one thousand dollars.

There are too many mother-in-law who have the power to fine, the police, transportation and health bureaus can find reasons to generate income. Especially when the police station comes to sweep the streets, as long as the vendors resist a little, in addition to taking the ticket, they will also be beaten up and be arrested and squat for a few days.

For public green spaces like Central Park, New York City has set up a special parks agency to manage, and other agencies generally do not come in to enforce the law.

In fact, it is not allowed to set up stalls at will in the park, but some franchise stalls will be set up to provide tourists with food and beverages.

But street painters like Liu Xiaojie can take advantage of small loopholes. Because tourists often come to sketch in the park, as long as there is no traffic jam, no one will usually take care of it.

Moreover, the park management and maintenance personnel do not have the power to enforce the law. Even if they come to drive them away, you can leave immediately, at least you won’t be fined.

Central Park, New York in March, is the most popular time of year. Winter has just passed, and ice skates will not come again. Spring has not yet arrived, so it is too cold to go out for a walk or a picnic, let alone take off your clothes and sunbathe.

The place where Liu Xiaojie set up a stall is located next to the entrance of the small zoo in the southeast corner of Central Park. This small zoo belongs to the park consists of a tropical rainforest pavilion of about 100 square meters and a small pond of dozens of square meters.

There are some reptiles such as snakes, spiders and other reptiles in the rainforest pavilion to visit. As for the small outdoor pond, there will be seals and penguins in winter.

Many children like to watch penguins, so many parents will take their children to come here for a walk while these stupid little guys have not been removed. Therefore, in this season, the small zoo is one of the most popular places in Central Park.

There were obviously more than Liu Xiaojie who set up a stall to draw near the entrance of the small zoo. When Zhou Yang and his roommate came over, three or four painting stalls were already there, and one of the painters was painting portraits of a blond girl.

Instead of placing the stool next to several colleagues, Liu Xiaojie set a distance from them and chose a slightly off-the-spot.

"It's not easy to make a living on the streets of New York. For example, I am the only one who is weak and being bullied is commonplace. A good place can't compete with them!"

Liu Xiaojie said as he glanced at his colleagues not far away, with a little helplessness in his words.

In fact, there is no need for roommates to explain, Zhou Yang knew it at a glance. Although several other painters were white and Mexican, they were all Hispanic at first glance.

In the American demographic statistics, Hispanics do not refer to immigrants from Spain, but to Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Because during the Age of Discovery, these places were mainly Spanish colonies, mainly speaking Spanish.

Hispanics have always been the fastest growing immigrant group in the United States, especially Mexico, and contributes a large number of illegal immigrants to the United States every year.

Because of the large influx of Hispanics, before Zhou Yang traveled, the Republicans began to worry that Texas would have the risk of being completely turned blue by the Democratic Party.

Although many of these Hispanic immigrants look no different from those of European whites, they will still not be classified as white in the US demographic.

Liu Xiaojie set up the stall, took out a small piece of cardboard from his backpack and hung it on his chest. He saw that the cardboard was written in bold words "Portrait painting, 10$".

"I can't compete with them, so I'd better stay away. In fact, as long as I'm diligent enough, my business will not be worse than theirs! Like now, I'll hang a sign to attract customers one by one.

After three o'clock in the afternoon, there were fewer tourists here, so I stopped to draw some of my own works. I finished work every day until four o'clock in the afternoon. This ghost place in New York, although there are rich areas on both sides of Central Park, it is also unsafe to have few people!

After the work here is over, I will go home to make dinner. After dinner, I will rest for an hour or two, and then wait around eight o'clock, the New York policemen have got off work and then go to Times Square to continue painting. They will not finish work until about one o'clock in the second night."

"No wonder, when I got home around 9 o'clock in the evening, you just went out to work night shifts! How is your daily business now?" Zhou Yang asked.

"My business depends entirely on the weather. If it is not windy or rainy, I will always earn three or four orders every day. The winter in New York is too cold, and when the weather gets warmer, there will be many people who are willing to sit down and draw.

I am different from them. They come with coffee pots. When they have no business, they get together to talk. People who don’t know think they are running a salon.

We are willing to go out to the streets to suffer. We are exposed to sun and rain every day. The purpose is very clear, which is to make more money. If you want to make money, you have to use your brain. It is only in recent months that I have come up with a new idea, selling portraits and picture frames.

You also saw the bundle of wooden strips on my cart. Two long, two short and four pieces are made together, and it is a small picture frame. This was specially customized by a small furniture factory in Chinatown. The cost is only $2, and I want to sell it for $5.

Among the two people who bought paintings, one of them would be willing to buy picture frames so that they could not go back and do it themselves." Liu Xiaojie expressed his disdain again when he passed by several colleagues.

Zhou Yang smiled and did not comment on his roommate's opinion. Latin Americans, including Mexicans, gave Zhou Yang the impression of being enthusiastic and unrestrained. However, in terms of hard work and getting rich, there is indeed some gap with Chinese people.

Zhou Yang did not follow his roommate to solicit customers, but stood behind the white painter who was somewhat bald and watched him sketch the little girl sitting opposite him.

The little girl's father obviously felt that the characters in the painting were somewhat different from her cute sweetheart, so he kept asking the painter to modify them. I don't know if the painter listened to it, but Zhou Yang felt that the other party's sketching skills were average.
