Volume 5: The Battle of Britain Chapter 99: The Day of the Landing (5)

"All officers are on the lookout! Go to the conference room No. 4 for a briefing, where the general will notify the following incidents."

The sudden sound from the speaker made the officers who were chatting with the "Imperial Sword" paratrooper division of the armed SS were stunned. They looked at each other and showed a look of surprise, and then rushed to the corridor.

The briefing process was not long. The chief of staff of Edel Polayock, who had a serious expression, ordered the secretary of the agency to issue a document, waiting for the officers to read it and spoke slowly: "The moment we have been waiting for for a long time has finally come. After experiencing Norway, your next goal has been determined! Maybe you have known what is about to happen for a long time, and you must be extremely excited in your heart. However, I still want to remind you that when there is no specific order, it is strictly forbidden to talk about any relevant information, otherwise you will be engaged in military law!"

"I understand!" The officers stood up solemnly, and they raised their right arms and walked forward forty-five degrees: "Hi! Stark!"

After the SS's unique salute, the officers looked at Chief of Staff Edel Polayock with bright eyes, waiting for the next instructions.

"Tonight, restrain your subordinates and prepare for all combat."

"call!!!"

"Remember! You are the most elite warriors in Germany! Be sure to keep this in mind!"

"Yes! General!"

Without any extra words, Edel Polayock asked the officers to disband, and he left the conference room and moved to the General Staff.

The above scenes can be seen everywhere in various military camps. For the purpose of "landing on the day", Germany assembled more than 18 paratrooper divisions, five of which came from the armed SS. Most of these five divisions have already carried out combat missions. Among them, in the Norwegian Battle in 1939, the "Imperial Scimitar" as a leading airborne in Norway's capital, quickly disintegrating the capital of Norway, playing a very critical role.

The other four paratrooper divisions of the armed SS have participated in the battles of the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Greece, etc. The Allied forces called these paratroopers the evil edelixirs, and their figures bloomed in the sky all over Europe.

At first, the paratroopers were transported to Hildesheim for glider landing training. In the Sudeten area of the Czech Republic and the Polish border area, there were hillsides and grasslands similar to the terrain of the Eben-Ammier Fortress, which became the best training grounds for paratroopers to land. Of course, all this was carried out under the conditions of being secret. The paratroopers were in a situation that was not better than the prisoners in the prison, and they could not write letters or talk to other troops. Even the paratrooper logo was asked to be taken from their uniforms. The name of the Eben-Ammier Fortress, which was about to be attacked by these paratroopers, was highly confidential, and only a few personnel from the General Staff knew it.

After the war broke out, the paratroopers were sent to Stolberg for practical training. This place was almost exactly the same as the Fortress of the Aben Ammyer, and was a training ground carefully selected by the staff of the General Staff. Here, the paratroopers were taught to use special tnt explosive devices with amazing power to explode solid objects and huge rocks. These special explosive devices could destroy twenty-five centimeters of armor or thirty-five centimeters of steel and concrete. In the spare time of blasting training, the paratroopers learned to use all the foreign weapons that the General Staff could find for them, and even the public relations courses for establishing good relations with civilians were taught to the paratroopers. Considering the combat requirements, even the pilot of the glider was required to pass the professional training subject of engineering.

Compared with the great importance that the SS attached to the paratroopers at the beginning, the German Welfare Force had never cared about the importance of the paratroopers. After seeing the performance of the paratroopers on the Norwegian battlefield, the generals who did not care changed one by one by one. Then the National Welfare Force also formed three paratrooper divisions and added nine divisions later, so that the National Welfare Force had a total of twelve divisions.

However, compared with the paratrooper divisions of the armed SS, the paratroopers of the National Defense Forces system have only been trained, and it is really unsure how much combat power they can have.

This time, the Wrath SS drew twelve of its twenty-six paratrooper divisions, and the National Defense Forces provided six. The total number of more than eighteen paratrooper divisions would airdrop the enemy as a leading force, such as in battles such as Norway, Belgium, and the Netherlands, quickly destroying the enemy's supply lines, bridges, arms warehouses, etc.

These eighteen paratrooper divisions will participate in the "Landing Day" military operation together with twelve Marines, thirty infantry divisions and eight armored divisions. Of course, they are not fully invested in the battle force at one time, after all, the battlefield range is so large.

In terms of transport aircraft, the base camp has prepared a large number of transport aircraft considering the number of paratroopers invested. Among them, DFS-first type is also a glider with a wide range of applications. Its space is relatively narrow, similar to a sporty glider. Its weight is very light and has quite good gliding performance. Later models were equipped with brake devices, and some even had rocket boosting systems under the nose of the aircraft.

After taking off, the wheels of this glider will fall off by itself and then land with the sled in the middle of the belly of the aircraft. Under normal circumstances, the DFS-230 can accommodate one pilot and nine soldiers. Most of the soldiers sit on the bench in the middle of the aircraft, and the last four soldiers sit facing the rear of the cabin. The only hatch door is located in the middle of the fuselage. The last model of the DFS-230 also has a machine gun tower located on the fuselage, and the soldiers sitting in the front are responsible for shooting. Usually the DSS-230 is a Ju-52 transport aircraft, and sometimes He-111 bomber from Henkel.

The go-242 is considered to have a far better carrying capacity than the DFS. The first time it was in the Norwegian battle, when the "Imperial Scimitar" paratrooper division completed a successful airborne operation! The performance of this type of aircraft is comparable to the performance of the Allied transport aircraft. The cargo is placed in the cabin above the rear of the cabin. It is located on both sides of the front of the cabin. It has a cabin door with a capacity of 4 tons. It can carry more than 20 soldiers or a light field gun and tractor. Unlike the DFS-230, the go-242 does not need to leave the traction aircraft when approaching the target, but has certain flight capabilities. The aircraft produced about 1,500 aircraft, and most of them are used in the Russian front line. Similar to the DFS-230, the traction aircraft usually uses ju-52 or he-111.

In addition, the Messerchmitt 321 is the largest glider equipped by the German paratroopers. Its wingspan is 55 meters long and its fuselage is meter long. The fuselage weighs 12 tons and its carrying capacity is 20 tons. It can carry 200 soldiers. The 21 model is made of 3 BF-110 or 2 He-111 tow belts. The output of the 321 model is about 200, and most of them are converted into Messerchmitt 323 transport aircraft. There was once a 323 transport aircraft shot down by Allied fighters when it flew to the capital of Romania. Due to its large weight, there were certain requirements for the length of the runway. Therefore, the later models all added rocket booster devices.

The ju-52 is the best transport aircraft equipped by the German army. It was designed in the late 1920s and until the 1980s, there were still some ju-52 transport aircraft in use. The ju-52 can carry about 10,000 pounds of cargo, 13 paratroopers or 18 infantrymen. Its speed is slow, at 180 mph. Its door design is very narrow, and despite this, the ju-52 is still a very outstanding transport aircraft.

The parachutes of the German paratroopers were designed based on the Italian ‘salvatore’. The umbrella bag is like a sleeveless top, and the umbrella cloth and rope can be put into the bag. The top of the umbrella is directly connected to the umbrella bag and a slip knot to facilitate the expansion of the parachute. Since the rope that unzips the umbrella bag is located between the umbrella bag and the backup umbrella, paratroopers often jump out of the cabin face down when parachuting, and often cause damage to the knees or elbows when landing. Except for the experienced paratroopers, most people cannot control their landing points during landing. In order to prevent paratroopers from carrying too much when landing, resulting in injuries. Usually, paratroopers carry only pistols and grenades, and occasionally carry submachine guns, except for the umbrella tools. Soldiers' combat equipment is usually placed in containers and airdropped with them.

The German Third Reich Airborne Force designed a large number of special and advanced equipment, the most famous of which is the FG-42 rifle. This is a single-shot semi-automatic rifle, which is only equipped with the German airborne troops. It is currently equipped with about 10,000 units. The caliber is 7.92mm, equipped with a 20-round magazine, and has a tripod support. The gun weighs about 10 pounds. When shooting automatically, it is quite difficult to control even if it has a tripod support. Therefore, experienced shooters often choose single-shot shooting in order to improve the accuracy of shooting.

Considering that the paratroopers were trapped in a battle environment surrounded by numerous encirclements, Germany spared no expense to arm a large amount of armed forces. At present, the most ordinary privates were equipped with mp-38, and a small number of officers were equipped with pistols produced by Krupp (that is, the crest guns in China) and were equipped with a few mp-40. There was at least one machine gun squad in a paratrooper platoon. They were equipped with a series of machine guns of the mg-40 (that is, mg-42) series. This type of machine gun only needs to be equipped with a tripod, which is a ferocious heavy machine gun. In response, the Allied soldiers gave this machine gun a nickname and called it "slaughtering machine".

Of course, since the paratroopers join the battlefield by airdropping, there must be no necessary heavy weapons. For this reason, Germany equipped the paratroopers with a large number of armor-breaking weapons, namely hammers, rocket launchers, small cluster bombs, and necessary mortars.
