Officials were not promoted, and soldiers with meritorious skills were rarely promoted, so the poor people only liked the imperial examination."

There were many redundant officials in the Song Dynasty, not because there were many officials who were in charge of business, but because there were many officials of a rank. Before the Xuanhe crisis, the number of officials was about 50,000!

This is not a rank of officials and lieutenant, but a rank of officials! With so many officials piled up on top, it is of course difficult for officials and military academy to be promoted below.

If you can’t pass the exam, you can change your career as soon as possible, so as not to miss your life and become a big deal.”

It turns out that what Zhao Kai wanted to run through these Confucian elites was some private middle schools, which were more than 400 Confucians, who were all famous. If the average ten Confucians could support a private middle school, then there would be more than 40 middle schools!

There are ten primary schools in a middle school, and that is more than four hundred primary schools.
