Chapter 11 The Writer

At the junction of the shade and the beach, Shimizuki looked at Nanami Nanami by her eyes. Amid the monotonous footsteps on the wooden sidewalk, the two were separated by a considerable distance.

Seeing the sound of the waves beside him, Shimizuki coughed lightly and said first: "Do you come out to sketch on your holiday? Does Qi Jiansang like painting very much?"

"Yeah." She lowered her head and snorted, and her perky nose looked at her beautiful arc from the side. "I liked it very much in high school. This year I also tried to apply for Tokyo University of the Arts with this goal. Unfortunately, my grades were a little worse and I only got into the design major. So I could only find time to practice painting by myself."

"The design professional at Dongyi University is also very awesome."

"Nothing. Where is Shimizu Sang? Is he a professional writer?"

"It's not that level," Shimizu Tetsu waved his hand, "I'm still studying in Waseda Literature. As for writing, in addition to personal interests, it is also a way to earn living expenses."

She nodded and asked nothing more.

It happened that a newlywed couple in Western-style dresses passed by, followed by two or three cameramen holding professional equipment, as if they were coming to the beach to take wedding photos. The two stopped to make way, watched the pedestrian walk onto the beach, and fell silent.

Inexplicably trying to record something, Shimizu Tetsu picked up his camera and pointed it at the coast and pressed the shutter a few times. Nanami Nanami seemed to be interested, and after he finished taking pictures, he asked softly: "Can you let me see?"

"no problem."

In order to avoid the previous situation, Shimizu Tetsu took the camera off her neck and handed it to her. Seeing that she was looking at the screen seriously, she unknowingly missed the smell of shampoo.

What's going on today?

This feeling is somewhat wonderful. Before I could experience it clearly, Nanami next to me suddenly said: "This coast seems to be near my home."

"Where is Qi Jiansang's home?"

Shimizu Tetsu responded immediately. I felt that I could think about it again, but the topic that finally appeared cannot be missed.

"Have you ever been to Otaru City in Hokkaido?"

"No. But I've watched Shunji Iwai's movie."

"Is "Love Letter"? My home is not far from the filming place."

"It would be great if I had the chance to go and see it."

After hearing this, Nanami raised her head and stared at him, and there was something flashing in her bright eyes.

She was worried that she had discovered something that she hadn't figured out. But she just returned to the camera, looked at the coast again, and asked: "Is Shimizu Sang from Tokyo?"

"No, I'm from Kyoto and I've been there before I went to college."

"Kyoto, I went there once in high school."

"travel?"

"It's because of the high school women's basketball league," she turned around and looked at Shimizu Toru with surprise, and smiled, "Why, can't you tell?"

Noting her slender wrists exposed outside her cuffs, Shimizu Tetsu smiled and nodded to admit.

As if he had found the rhythm of communication, he finally lost his unfamiliarity when he first met. After breathing a sigh of relief, Shimizu asked a question he had paid attention to recently.

"Did Qi Jiansang come to Tokyo this year?"

"Yes, what's wrong?"

A sea breeze blew, and she raised her hand to pull the hair spreading from her temples behind her ears.

"Last time, we met at the barbecue restaurant after the signing meeting, right? Later, I... went to another time with my friend and found out that you had resigned. Is something wrong?"

She tilted her head and looked over, and her scrutinized gaze made Kimizutsu feel a little guilty. Fortunately, she didn't last for a few seconds, so she bent her eyes and lowered her head and chuckled.

"Nothing happened, it was just because school started. Although the hourly wages there were a little higher, it was a bit too late to go to work there after class."

“So that’s how it is.”

Qingshuichi breathed out. Although she solved her doubts, she always felt that she had seen through something.

"So, I also have a question to ask Sakura Sang."

"Although I agreed."

"Why did Shimizu Sang want to become a writer?"

Never asked this before, Shimizu Tsuki was unable to give the answer immediately.

To be honest, the so-called interest in literature that was shown in the past was a state of neither encouragement nor opposition, and it was good to develop freely. It was not known to friends and relatives who used writing as students. Even when he was in high school, he decided to apply for the Literature Department, and his parents just said, "Since you have decided, then work hard."

Anyway, everything seems to be natural.

Looking at the undulating sea surface, Shimizu Tetsuya recalled carefully. Nanami stood aside without urging her.

"It should be because of a feeling." As if he had caught something, he suddenly spoke.

"Feel?"

"I remember I just started high school and one day I woke up and suddenly felt something was wrong. It was like a piece of the complete puzzle being taken away. Whether I was reading books on the bookshelf or listening to others chatting about something, I always felt like... the world was missing. After a while with that feeling, I suddenly felt that I might as well fill in the blanks."

Speaking of this, Shimizu Tetsu himself felt a bit out of place, and smiled like a self-deprecatingly, saying, "How is it? Doesn't it sound like the fantasy of a middle-aged boy?"

Nanami Nanami seemed to have realized something, but she nodded slightly with a sudden expression and gave no comments.

It was not very obvious when she first said it. As her movements, her inexplicable shame began to swell. She didn't bother to guess what she had learned. Shimizu Tsuki just wanted to find a topic to cover up the "reason for becoming a writer". So, the thing that had been a headache these two days blurted out.

"By the way, Qi Jiansang thinks I can go and preach to high school students?"

“Pray?”

Just as he was dragged out of his thoughts, Nanami seemed to have not fully understood what he meant.

"It means telling students who have visited some application experience and school situation. The most important thing is personal achievements."

"Is there any problem?"

"Compared with the seniors such as Haruki and Miura Shiyuan, I, who only has one book, have no personal achievements that can be achieved by writers like me, right?"

After spitting out this sentence, Shimizu Tetsu noticed that Nanami Nanami looked at her strange eyes.

"It seems that Shimizu Sang has high expectations for her," she curled her lips and smiled, "but for ordinary people like us, it is already very good to be able to put their works in a bookstore."

"The one who can get into Dongyi University is not an ordinary person."

Ignoring his interruption, Nanami looked up at Shimizu Tetsu's eyes, curled her smile, and said seriously: "At least, Shimizu San, who signed me for my signature in the bookstore, is a real writer in my opinion."
