Chapter 320 Letters Overdue for Over 400 Years
"The original version of the Yongle Encyclopedia, 1403-1408, Xie Jin."
After several consecutive appraisals, the Holy Ring gave such an answer, which made Yang Jing almost die happily!
The "Yongle Encyclopedia" has a position in the cultural heritage of China that is definitely one of the smallest books at its peak, and there are definitely only a handful of books that can match it.
Yang Jing once saw the Jiajing version of the copy of the "Yongle Encyclopedia" in the National Library, but the appearance of the "Yongle Encyclopedia" in front of him is slightly different from the copy Yang Jing had seen.
The size of these "Yongle Encyclopedia" is a little larger than the Jiajing version of the copy. Yang Jing measured it with his palm. It was about 30 cm wide and about half a meter long.
As for the cover color and layout, it is similar to the Jiajing version's copy.
Yang Jing opened the cover of one of the books with a little trembling hands, revealing the contents inside. Yang Jing dared to swear with his own head that this content was definitely not printed, but a handwritten copy written in a serious stroke!
In fact, the 370 million words of the "Yongle Encyclopedia" were copied by the writers in the Ming Dynasty's style of the Pavilion. The mountains and rivers painted in the "Dao" were also painted in plain drawing techniques, which were exquisite and craftsmanship. The court officials and scholars who participated in the copying only had 21,600 old scholars.
In July 1403, when Zhu Di, the Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty, ordered the compilation of the "Yongle Encyclopedia". He told Xie Jin, Hu Guang and other ministers: "The things in the world are recorded in various classics, and are voluminous and not easy to search. I want to collect the things recorded in various books widely and use rhyme to supervise them for the purpose of searching them. In this way, searching things is as easy as finding things. Although the books such as "Yunfu Qunyu" and "Huixi Shiyun" in the past were also supervised by rhyme, they were not widely collected and recorded briefly. I hope that according to my opinion, you will collect the books of the classics, history, and literature from all generations, as well as astronomy, geography, yin and yang, medical calculations, monks and Taoism, and skills, and collect them in one book. Don't think it's too numerous."
As soon as the emperor spoke, the ministers below naturally had to break their legs. Xie Jin and others followed the emperor's intention and took six years to compile this book, which has a total of 22,937 volumes, divided into 11,095 volumes, and collected seven or eight thousand ancient and modern books.
At the beginning of the book's completion, Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty considered publishing it, which is a woodblock printing, but it was stopped due to the huge labor cost. Only one copy was hand-written by the book of employment, which was called the "Yongle Original Version".
Needless to say, the "Yongle Encyclopedia" in the five boxes in front of you is naturally the original "Yongle Encyclopedia" ordered by Zhu Di, the eldest son of the Ming Dynasty, to be hand-copied!
In the 14th year of Zhengtong in the Ming Dynasty, that is, in 1449, the Wenyuan Pavilion in Jinling was in flames, and the original manuscripts collected in the Yongle Encyclopedia were burned. Fortunately, all the originals had been moved to Yanjing, and this disaster was not encountered.
In the 36th year of Jiajing, that is, in April 1557, a fire broke out in the palace, Fengtianmen and three halls were burned down, and the original version of the "Yongle Encyclopedia" was almost destroyed. Due to this false alarm, Emperor Jiajing decided to organize manpower to copy a copy.
At the beginning of the re-recording, Minister Xu Jie believed that copying tens of thousands of volumes of the ceremonies was huge, and there was no need to stick to the original style and calligraphy. However, after a thorough review of the "Classic", he found that if the layout changes, the characters and graphics on it would change, so it would be easier to copy it as it is. Finally, he decided to re-record the entire original version of Yongle without any changes.
So in the 41st year of Jiajing, that is, in 1562, Emperor Jiajing summoned 109 painters and officially copied the paintings. It took six years to complete the construction in April of the first year of Longqing and was called the "Jiajing copy".
The original version disappeared later. Some people said that the original version of "Yongle Encyclopedia" was destroyed by fire during the Wanli period, and some people said that the original version of "Yongle Encyclopedia" was buried with Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty. As a result, after the Dingling was opened in the 1960s, no trace of the original version of "Yongle Encyclopedia" was found.
Obviously, the original version of "Yongle Encyclopedia" was not buried with Emperor Wanli.
But the original version is indeed gone without a trace.
Even the Jiajing copy was not valued at the beginning when it was circulated to the Qing Dynasty. It was not until the Yonggan period that the Jiajing copy of the Yongle Encyclopedia was taken seriously. The "Siku Quanshu" compiled during the Qianlong period borrowed a lot of the content of the "Yongle Encyclopedia".
But by that time, even the dungeons were lost a lot.
Later, in the late Qing Dynasty, when the great powers invaded China, the Jiajing copy was even robbed away by the great powers. Until modern times, even the Jiajing copy only had more than 800 volumes in the world.
Even the Jiajing copy is already a rare treasure in the world, not to mention the original copy that has disappeared for hundreds of years in front of you!
If these original books are taken back to their original time and space, they will definitely cause a storm!
But what made Yang Jing feel a little regretful was that only 6,000 volumes were contained in these five large boxes, totaling 14,688 volumes, accounting for more than half of the original version of the "Yongle Encyclopedia".
However, although I feel a little regretful that the "Yongle Encyclopedia" here is incomplete, but I can get so many "Yongle Encyclopedia" and it is a genuine original, which is already a great time!
I just don’t know why the original version of the Yongle Encyclopedia, which was originally missing in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, appeared here. Could it be that Emperor Yongli Zhu Youlang brought it here?
There is only this reason to explain why most of the original set of "Yongle Encyclopedia" appeared here. There is no way to explain this point for other reasons, and there are also many gold, silver, jewelry, and precious calligraphy and paintings to prove this point. In the turbulent era of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, it is wrong that the royal family has this ability.
However, although the holy ring is magical, it can only simply identify the detailed source of a certain thing. As for how this thing came here, the holy ring does not have this function.
Looking at the five big boxes, Yang Jing was stunned for a while, and finally laughed twice. He touched the boxes with his left hand. In an instant, the five big boxes disappeared on the spot and entered the upgraded storage space.
As a result, when Yang Jing put all the boxes into the storage space, he found that there was a small purple-black wooden box on the ground.
The intuition made Yang Jing feel happy when he saw this small wooden box. He hurriedly stepped forward a few steps and picked up the small box.
The box is very heavy, and it is actually made of small-leafed rosewood. Although it is not big, it is heavy when it is held in your arms.
There was also a small copper lock lock on the small box, but the small copper lock had already rusted, so Yang Jing opened the small box effortlessly.
There is also oil paper as a wrapping inside. After uncovering the oil paper, what catches your eye is a silver straight seal. Judging from its size, it is obviously the three highest-level seals in the Ming Dynasty, which are the straight seals that can only be used by first-rank officials.
Yang Jing picked up the straight seal and looked at the seal at the bottom. He was shocked and suddenly realized. Because the seal on this seal was the four words "Qian Gong Seal".
Needless to say, this must be left by Mu Tianbo, the last Duke of Qian in the Ming Dynasty.
Thinking about Mu Tianbo first fought against Sun Kewang with Li Dingguo, but Sun Kewang was in a mess, and finally he protected him and entered Myanmar. In the end, his soul was broken, and he was an absolute loyal minister. Looking at the treasures in these more than 20 large boxes, it is not difficult for Yang Jing to guess who was placed here.
Apart from Mu Tianbo, others probably don’t have such ability and courage.
If someone else had hidden these treasures here, Yang Jing might have doubted that person's purpose. But Mu Tianbo and Li Dingguo would never have done such a thing.
Mu Tianbo eventually broke away from Myanmar in order to protect Zhu Youlang and fought with Myanmar soldiers until his death. After Li Dingguo learned that Emperor Yongli was eventually killed by Wu Sangui, he became depressed and ill. He only persisted for a year before following Emperor Yongli. He was only 42 years old when he died.
These two generals can be said to be the last loyal minister of the Southern Ming Dynasty, and their loyalty is naturally unquestionable. If these treasures were really hidden here by Mu Tianbo, then they must have their purpose.
Sure enough, under this seal, Yang Jing found a letter. After carefully opening it, the content inside moved Yang Jing again.
Ning Yuwu brother:
If you see this letter, you must have received a letter from me. I wish you can use this military capital to show your strength again, defeat the Tartars in Yundian, and return the bright world of Yundian. Your Majesty, your Majesty, can also return to Yundian.
This military fund was raised by my brother from many ways. The original version of the "Yongle Encyclopedia" was owned by His Majesty the late emperor, Lizong, and was given by His Majesty the Emperor Shenzong. Later, His Majesty the Emperor Gonglizong died of illness in Wuzhou, and His Majesty the Emperor Zhaozong has always treasured these books.
There are also famous calligraphy and paintings of the previous dynasty and the previous dynasty, which were also given to the late Emperor Lizong by His Majesty Shenzong, and were brought here by His Majesty Zhaozong together with the Yongle Encyclopedia.
Gold, silver and jewelry were started to raise funds after the arrival of His Majesty Zhaozong in Kunming. In the ninth year of Yongli, after the arrival of the Great Vehicle in Kunming, my brother felt that the Tartars were in great power, so he worked hard to raise military funds for three years. The 200,000 taels of gold and one million taels of silver were all the military funds raised for my brother in the three years.
In the 13th year of Yongli, after escorting my brother to enter the country of Myanmar and arrived at Manmo on the 29th day of the first lunar month, I deeply felt that the king of Myanmar was wary of Your Majesty, so I begged Your Majesty to divide his troops to seek peace. Your Majesty also agreed with his brother's suggestion, but the Empress Dowager Wang did not agree, so this method had to be stranded.
But for your brother, I will leave you with the military funds raised over the years to make a comeback. Your Majesty agrees and hand over the years the "Yongle Encyclopedia" and many calligraphy, paintings and jewelry that he has collected for many years to be given to you.
While I was waiting for the Burmese king to welcome the king of the Myanmar Kingdom, I learned from the local people that there was a lonely mountain near Manmo, and there was a cave in the mountains, which was very suitable for hiding treasures. So after I accompanied the Dajia to the capital of Burmese, I handed over all the military funds hidden in the suburbs of Manmo into this cave, and completely sealed the original entrance of the cave and opened a new entrance. I believe you already knew it in the letter you gave to you.
In the past three years, Your Majesty has had a hard time in Awa City. I hope you can use this military investment to attack the Tartars and strive to welcome the return of Your Majesty as soon as possible!
I wish you a great victory on the battlefield and repel the Tartars!
Brother: Mu Tianbo
In the first month of the fifteenth year of Yongli, in Awa Zhucheng
This letter, which has been late for more than 400 years, explains the true source of these treasures...
