Chapter 29 John's Urgency
"Hey, Kate, wake up!"
Lite gently patted Kate on the shoulder and woke her up from her deep sleep.
"Has the plane landed?"
Kate took off his eye mask and found that the seats around him were empty, and there were only a few passengers in the cabin that had not left.
"let's go!"
Li Te opened the luggage rack above his head, took the boxes of the two of them, and called Kate, who had just woken up, to get off the plane together.
Walking out of the gate, Kate looked at the crowds crowded across the street and asked with uncertainty: "Is there really no one to pick us up?"
"Of course, we have to find a car to go back by ourselves."
Li Te held the suitcase in one hand and the jacket in the other, and walked forward without looking back.
Kate grabbed him from behind and pointed at a card in the crowd.
"But what is that?"
Looking in the direction of Kate's finger, Lit easily found the pick-up pass with his and Kate's names written on it.
After moving his eyes down and seeing the face of the sign-holder clearly, Li Te was stunned for a moment. Why is it him?
Just as Li Te was stunned, the man had already started waving to this side.
Kate turned his head and looked at Lit with some curiosity, "Who is he?"
"A colleague." Li Te answered absent-mindedly.
"College?" Kate seemed to have heard something that surprised her very much. "I thought AMG was the only agent now."
Li Te shrugged helplessly, "He has an actor on his hand that I am very optimistic about, but that person is unwilling to change agents no matter what, so I had to dig him up with him."
"Actor?" Kate asked suddenly.
Lite was thinking about why John appeared at the airport, and he didn't care much about Kate's expression when he asked this, and replied casually: "Yes."
Kate curled his lips, "I think she must be very beautiful."
"Of course, she was a model before she became an actor... Of course, after all, you are the most beautiful in my heart." Li Te realized something was wrong and hurriedly changed his words.
"You must have said this to her, right?" Kate said this with a playful smile on his face, revealing a pair of dimples that were deliberately deepening.
Lite shook his head, "Absolutely not, I swear!"
The two of them spoke and walked, and soon met with John who was holding the sign there.
After saying hello to Lit, John took the initiative to reach out.
"Hello, Kate!"
"Hello!"
The two of them separated after a moment of contact. During this period, John praised Kate's beauty, and Kate smiled and thanked him.
When they left together, John took the suitcase from Litt and walked to the front to lead the way.
Looking at John's back, Kate asked Lit in a low voice, "Are you really sure he is your colleague?"
"I took out 4% of the company's shares before I convinced him to change jobs, so what do you think?"
"But I feel that what he is doing now is more like your subordinate."
"This is normal! Colleagues can also help each other, and AMG adheres to the principle of equal management for everyone, so there are no superiors and subordinates between employees." Lite deliberately lied. Of course, he knew that John was deliberately trying to please him, but he wanted to know what prompted John to do so.
On the way back, John was driving and chatting with Kate about some topics related to Hollywood, and occasionally peeking at Lit's reaction from the rearview mirror.
Lite didn't interrupt and just held his hands to watch John perform, and he felt more and more confident that John must have encountered some trouble during his time in Hong Kong.
During the chat, Kate suddenly remembered something.
“By the way, where do I live?”
Lite was about to say that he was going to find a hotel for Kate near the apartment he lived in, and then slowly helped her find a suitable place to stay, but John rushed to say no, he had found a good place for Kate.
"Charlize's two-bedroom apartment is empty. I've talked to her. If Kate doesn't mind living with someone, she can live there first. Anyway, Charlize is planning to find someone to help her share the rent."
Let Kate and Charlize live together? Just from the "interest" revealed by Kate's words just now, Lit felt that this idea was a terrible one.
But before he could object, Kate spoke first.
"I think this idea is good. Anyway, I will be running back and forth between the UK and Los Angeles for a long time in the future, so it's good to have a place to live."
John was a little surprised when he heard this, “Aren’t you going to concentrate on staying in Hollywood to develop?”
"No, I signed a contract with the British TV station for two TV series, and I also have to participate in a stage play, so I may not give up my development in the UK for the time being."
John looked at Lit in the rearview mirror and saw that he had no expression, so he was sure that what Kate said was true.
For Lite, these were all agreed upon by Kate and he had long been together. Anyway, it took at least one and a half years from the preparation of the Matrix to the completion of the filming and post-production. During this period, Kate could not have stopped doing other things. Of course, Lite could also arrange other movies for her, but Lite was not prepared to do so.
The movie "The Matrix" is enough to make Kate gain a foothold in Hollywood. Before that, there was no need to "compromise" to play roles in other movies. This is a waste of resources.
As for acting in TV series and stage plays in the UK, it was just a hobby of Kate. She has always maintained this habit since she became famous in later generations. As long as she likes it, Lit will naturally not impose intervention.
But this statement was completely different in John's ears. Among the three actors under AMG, Keanu Reeves can be ignored for the time being, and there will inevitably be some competitive relationship between Kate Beckinsale and Charlize Theron. John has always been worried that Lit would tilt the company's resources to Kate. Now that Kate takes the initiative to give up, Charlize will have more opportunities.
John knew that it would not be that easy for Litt to give him 4%. After he switched to AMG, he was ambitious and prepared to do something. He also felt that it would be easy to win over some artists to join as long as he took the banner of Michael Orwitts. After all, Litt did this before. At the beginning, John didn't dare to set his goals too high, so he only chose some actors with a little fame as lobbying goals. But after he really took action, he realized that things were not that simple.
Many brokerage companies have made very strict warnings to their artists out of vigilance against Michael Orwitz. If the company finds that they have contact with relevant personnel of AMG, they will be punished at the least, and at the worst, they will be sued to court.
John set a total of ten goals, but in the end he agreed to meet him, and the results of the meeting were not very ideal. If either the other party offered the conditions, John would not accept it or the proportion of the agent was too low. In short, the last one was not negotiated.
I couldn't get new customers and I also encountered trouble when helping Charlize get an audition.
With the tacit cooperation of other brokerage companies, no matter which producer or director John calls, the other party either refuses directly or changes his mind soon after agreeing.
Only then did John realize that he seemed to have been "scaught" by Lit. It turned out that when he was in ICM, he could at least help Charlize win some supporting roles in movies or more important roles in TV series, but now all of them are gone.
Apart from acting in low-cost independent films, John couldn't find any other possibility that Charlize would continue to stay on the big screen.
