290. Play big

Why is Lao Wei so excited? Because Hops is finally going to talk to him about substantive issues.

In fact, whether it is the computer CPU or the crystal proximity switch mentioned by Liu Wancheng, our country cannot do it or can't do it well. After all, it is because the integrated technology is not up to standard.

The so-called integration technology is how to integrate more components on a smaller single silicon carrier.

Fafer is a wafer. A wafer is a single silicon wafer used to make silicon carbide semiconductor integrated circuits. Because of the manufacturing process, the finished product produced is round in shape, so it is called a wafer.

Only with wafers can there be silicon wafers, and various circuit component structures can be processed and produced on them, and become IC products with specific electrical functions. This is the basis for the production of integrated circuits such as chips, flash memory, etc. in today's world.

Fortunately, wafers are not too lagging behind the world in China. In the late 1990s, some manufacturers were able to produce eight-inch products.

As an electronics technology expert, Lao Wei certainly knew this thing, and he also participated in the manufacturing of wafers.

Liu Wancheng mentioned that the proximity switch and the integrated circuit inside were also made of this thing. However, at that time, domestic late-stage circuit processing technology and bad parts detection technology were far behind foreign countries.

Speaking of this, we need to add some basic knowledge of integrated circuit production.

As the name suggests, a lithography machine is a machine that uses light as energy to carve physical objects; an etching machine is a machine that does not want to retain that part of the product design.

The processing object of these machines is wafers.

As the name suggests, the smaller the lines engraved on the wafer, the shorter the transistor gate, the more crystals are engraved per unit area, the more transistors can be stored on the chip, and the higher the computing efficiency.

At this time, Pentium had just begun to develop dual-core CPUs, and the engraving width of its engraving process had just reached 90 nanometers. This domestic technology was just starting, and it was probably not even possible to reach the micron level.

Therefore, at that time, many parts based on integrated components, such as crystal proximity switches, could not be made with world-class advanced technology. They were either made with the second-generation silicon germanium transistor technology, and made with huge volume, or they wanted to buy foreign microchips. But at that time, we could not get good chips. If they didn't give them to you, they could only buy unqualified products that were eliminated on the wafers they used. The quality of components packaged with these things can be predicted.

To have micro- or nano-scale processes, a lithography machine must be used. The wavelength of the cutting light source of ordinary lithography machines is too large to meet the requirements of chip micro-engraving manufacturing, and there is too strong diffraction, which is a problem that we can never solve.

Let’s talk about chip manufacturing.

Simply put, chip manufacturing is about transcription and molding, similar to the principle of photography.

The designed electrical function integration picture is made into a molded sheet, which is like the negative film of the photo, and then projected onto the glued wafer sheet through light, leaving a chip structure image on the thin film. That is to say, the content of the design drawing is transcribed on the wafer sheet film, which is the function of the lithography machine.

Let’s talk about the etching machine. The adhesive film with image information will, under the action of the etching machine, the wafers under the exposed part of the adhesive film begin to dissolve and fall off, and are etched off under the action of ions. The etching machine is equivalent to an engraving knife. The more advanced the technology, the higher the etching accuracy, the more components are engraved on the wafer of the same area, and the more powerful the chips produced are.

This is the general principle of integrated chip production.

When Hops mentioned the wafer, Lao Wei realized that what he had visited before was the lithography machine and etching machine that made chips!

He returned to China after studying abroad and was engaged in transistor research and production for more than ten years, and was studying how to integrate more components on smaller chips. In order to realize this dream, he could be said to be regardless of gains and losses, and honor and disgrace.

Unfortunately, at that time, domestic research on this aspect was not paid enough attention to it, and it was difficult to apply for funds. There was no way, so he came out of the public research institute and went to a company with funds. But in the end, no company realized the importance of this thing. Even if it was not profitable, no one was willing to invest huge amounts of funds for him to waste.

The reason why he was willing to vote for Liu Wancheng was that he knew that this was a business genius. More importantly, this person had a conscience. He raised all the laid-off workers from a large factory of 10,000 people. This is what no other business owner can do.

He wanted to develop intelligent machine-plus equipment, which was also for patriotism and for the sake of the country's future uncontrollableness. No one was willing to do this.

Merchants all aim to make profits and do whatever they want to make profits. Liu Wancheng does not use any means, but he is conscience and patriotism, and has not completely fallen into the money of profits. In China, there is no choice except Liu Wancheng and Lao Wei.

He never expected that in such a small workshop, there was actually the world's top advanced technology hidden, and it was the technology he had always dreamed of. How could he not be excited? He was already very excited, but he still tried his best to restrain himself and act as calm as possible.

Hops didn't understand China, and he didn't know what level of China's chip technology had developed. From Lao Wei's mouth, he could not help but be shocked when he heard the two English words "lithography machine" and "etching machine".

In his subjective impression, China should be similar to those dictatorial countries in Africa, and should be poor and unable to wear pants. How could their company boss know about these advanced technologies in the world?

So, what he said in the negotiations was full of moisture. His equipment was no longer the most advanced equipment in the world. If the other party required high integration conditions, he might not be able to do it.

In the name of Old Wei and Liu Wancheng, he should invest free of charge and allow him to have qualified environmental conditions to operate the equipment. This really touched him very much. He should not deceive others with such generosity and trust in him.

He was very shocked that Lao Wei was so familiar with these high-techs, but since he knew about his broken things and was so real that he invested in improving the production workshop for him without signing a contract, he was embarrassed to hide it anymore. He might as well just tell the truth, which made him let go of his burden and breathe a sigh of relief.

So he said: "Since Mr. Liu is an expert, I will not hide it from you. My factory is still the most advanced if it was in the past few years. However, those damn big companies stole my philosophy and improved their equipment accuracy to the nano-level. And here, because there is no further funding to improve, I still stay at the micro-level. If Mr. Liu needs the world's most advanced chips, I can't do it. So, I need to get the data of your chips first, or design drawings before I can tell you whether my factory can meet your requirements."

Lao Wei asked him: "How many microns can you achieve at least?"

Hops said proudly: "0.13 micron. This is the current level of Pentium CPU. As long as you quickly produce or sell new chips before they come out, you still have time to make huge profits.

0.13 microns, enough! Old Wei said in his heart that this accuracy may not be achieved in ten years if he does it himself!

He said perfunctorily: "We don't have to provide drawings. You can choose the chips you have made before. As long as you can reduce them to this value, make a few samples for us, and we pass the test, it's fine."

The matter was finalized like this. Jiangshan Group invested 20,000 US dollars to help Hops transform the environment in the production workshop. The environment meets the dust-free requirements. After passing the qualification, Hops will produce a few general-purpose chips and hand them over to the other party for testing.

After agreeing on the payment method, Lao Wei hurriedly said goodbye and went back to the hotel to find Liu Wancheng.

When he saw Liu Wancheng's first words, he said: "Mr. Liu, we have to bring Hops' equipment over and try to transport it to China!"

Liu Wancheng was shocked and looked at Lao Wei. He was excited and looked red in his face, and even his hands were trembling.

Liu Wancheng didn't understand what was going on, so he asked tentatively: "Mr. Wei, you know, those who are high-tech, but they don't even allow us to see them? If you want to get them to the country, I guess the American police will really arrest us."

"Mr. Liu, do you know computer chips?" Old Wei said without hesitation.

Liu Wancheng nodded and said, "I know, what's wrong?"

"Do you know how it was made?" Old Wei said again, "If our country can never create this thing, it will always rely on importing people's homes, and our country will never be considered powerful! This is not money, nor can it be compared with anything else. It is related to the national destiny of our country!"

Liu Wancheng was confused. He asked Lao Wei to sit on the sofa in the room and said slowly. He went to pour him a glass of water in person.

This old Wei was an early American student. He was able to return to his motherland to serve the country, which is worthy of Liu Wancheng's respect. It is precisely because of this that he looked up to him and always respected his opinions.

At present, Lao Wei started with the most basic principles and techniques and taught Liu Wancheng a technical class.

Liu Wancheng is an industrialist. Although he has experienced the events of later generations, he does not understand the real chips and flash memory technology. As for how the integrated modules are made, he does not understand either. But he knows that the most critical technology for Western Card China in the future is integrated chips.

When he traveled through time, the CPU processor could already handle TB-level storage, but it is still at the GB-level. Moreover, China really cannot make decent chips.

When he heard that the Hops factory originally made this thing, he couldn't help but become serious.

Lao Wei said: "I have been studying for more than ten years and know that the lithography machine needs purple aurora. To be honest, I have basically overcome most of the obstacles and difficulties. However, the lack of advanced experimental equipment in China and is not sold to us abroad. We cannot continue to do the remaining things and it is difficult to improve. This is an excellent opportunity! As long as I can see this machine and let me understand its several key data, I can create one that is exactly the same. Moreover, if I know its principle, I will know where my past mistakes were, and I may even create more advanced equipment! At that time, no one can anymore stick our country's neck and threaten us with these broken things!"

Liu Wancheng listened to Lao Wei's story and gradually fell into deep thought.

Originally, he just wanted to steal a small technique to get close to the switch, but now he was playing big.
