101, turning point (2)

As time entered 1941, at the beginning of the new year, the Japanese army began to launch a large-scale attack on German Indochina.

After World War I, the French Annan colonies were divided by Germany and Austria, and Germany gained jurisdiction over the wealthy southern region of Annan, while the Austro-Hungarian Empire gained the poorer north of Da Nang, and the northern mountainous areas where anti-colonial guerrillas often appear.

After the outbreak of the Japanese war of aggression against China, Germany strengthened its military forces stationed in the Far East. The German troops stationed in Qingdao increased to 30,000, and the colonial troops stationed in Annan expanded to 100,000. But one of the biggest problems is that in order to shock Japan, Germany gathered all the main forces of the Far East Fleet in Qingdao, but was attacked by Japan, and the main forces of the Far East Fleet suffered heavy losses. Although the Far East Fleet regained the battle-sinking and injured warships, the German fleet lacking aircraft carriers could only occasionally be protected by the shore-based aviation force, and did not dare to leave the coast too far away from the coast from Qingdao to Tianjin.

The German fleet in Annan now has only one cruiser squadron composed of two light cruisers, four 1934 destroyers, some offshore torpedo boats, patrol boats, etc. It is very weak and has been staying at the Jinlan Naval Base with a large number of anti-aircraft artillery and shore-based aviation defenses, doing nothing.

On the afternoon of January 9, Japanese bombers taking off from the Malay Peninsula launched a raid on the German Annan region with the cooperation of two naval aircraft carriers.

The German army established several radar stations in southern Vietnam, but they were mainly located around Zigong. Before launching an attack, the Japanese army used local anti-colonial guerrillas to conduct detailed reconnaissance on the Annan region, and the deployment of the German and Austrian troops was very clear. In North Vietnam, not only were there 120,000 Austro-Hungarian colonial troops, but also received support from the 16th Army of the Chinese Army in order to ensure the safety of the Beibu Gulf Naval Base. Relatively speaking, the German army in the south was insufficient, and the entire coastline of the Annan region was more than 1,000 nautical miles. After losing control of the sea, it was indeed very difficult to prevent the Japanese army from landing.

Before the war, Germany deployed two army air wings in the Annan colony. There were about 530 combat aircraft, including more than 180 bf109b fighter jets and 210 Ju87d "Stuka" dive bombers. The Japanese army tried to launch an attack on German Annan twice between November 1939 and March 1940, but they were both counterattacked by the German aviation troops and eventually had to cancel the combat plan.

The British were very afraid of the Japanese army and refused to enter the Malay Peninsula, which also caused the Japanese army to be unable to use the Malay Peninsula as a pedal and thus attack German Annan.

Now, Britain itself is unable to protect the Malay Peninsula, Myanmar, and even India. With the mediation of the United States, it finally agreed to the Japanese army to enter the Malay Peninsula, but it did not allow the Japanese army to enter the India-Myanmar region. At this time, Myanmar was not a country. After Britain seized control of Myanmar from the Myanmar's suzerain China in 1889, it merged Myanmar into India and became a state of the British Indian colony, and was under the jurisdiction of the British Governor General of India.

The Japanese army selected the landing site in Bangxun Bay, where there were almost no German troops stationed, which was located on the border between Annan and Thailand. Moreover, it was blocked by the Cardamom Mountains and Xiangshan Mountains, so the German army was not easy to provide reinforcements.

After the 1950s, Pangxun gradually became the largest harbor in Cambodia. At this time, it was just a desolate bay between the tropical rainforests. The German army had only one battalion of colonial troops and a police station with about 170 policemen. The Japanese landing at Pangxun Bay only encountered slight resistance from local police. The battle lasted for only about ten minutes, and a very small police force was defeated.

After receiving the news of the Japanese attack, the German troops stationed in this area began to retreat to Phnom Penh.

The German air force immediately launched a counterattack on the Japanese landing fleet, but due to the nearly one and a half years of sea isolation, the German fighter jets consumed about 120 in several air battles and were not replenished. At the same time, due to the inability to equip the latest fighter jets, the performance of the German fighter jets stationed in Annan was slightly behind.

The Japanese army quickly gained absolute air supremacy over Cambodia, and the German army was no longer able to stop the Japanese landing. The main force of the 5th Division and the advance troops of the 18th Division successfully landed in Bangxunwan. Lieutenant General Yamashita Fengfu and Lieutenant General Matsui Taikuha also arrived at the landing ground at the first time.

After landing, the 5th Division came without any rush to rest, and began to march towards Phnom Penh. At the same time, part of the 18th Division of the Japanese Army began to land in Jinou Bay under the command of Major General Tuo Meihao.

The German army stationed a division of troops in Point of Jinou, and the Tuomei Detachment encountered tenacious resistance during the landing.

Defending Jinou Bay is the 341st Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division of the German Far East Army. This regiment built a coastal defense position on the Nangen line selected by the Japanese army, built bunkers, and set up barbed wire at the front of the position. In addition, the German army also had an artillery position behind the coastal position, deployed a light artillery battalion, with a total of 12 105mm howitzers and an air defense company equipped with 6 double-equipped 37mm anti-aircraft guns and 6 127mm anti-aircraft machine guns.

What is slightly different from the organization of the Austro-Hungarian Army is that the German Infantry Division is in the 6th Battalion system of the 2nd Regiment, while the Austro-Hungarian Army Infantry Division adopts the 33 system, with a total of 3 infantry regiments and 9 infantry battalions. The German and Austrian Army is generally the same in the organization of armored regiments and infantry regiments, both of which have three infantry battalions, one of the regiment artillery companies (with 6 75mm light howitzers and 2 105mm medium howitzers), and one anti-tank artillery company (with 6 57mm anti-tank guns and 3 75mm anti-tank guns).

Unlike the German infantry in Europe that had begun to generally equip the G38 semi-automatic rifles, the German Army in the Far East had not had time to change the gear, but was still equipped with the Mauser Kar98k single-shot rifle. The fire density was far less than that of European troops, and it was even less than that of some elite Chinese army divisions who had begun to generally equip the semi-automatic and automatic rifles. Another important difference is that the German infantry division in Europe had begun to organize an armored battalion of divisions with 76 tanks and 128 armored vehicles, while the Far East had only one light armored regiment equipped with 136 light tanks in total.

Germany once sent a "voluntary armored division" to the Far East, but the armored force has been cooperating with the Chinese army and has not been transferred to the Annan colony to strengthen its defense.

Even so, the equipment of the German Far East Army, especially in terms of the number and caliber of artillery, is much stronger than that of ordinary Japanese army divisions.

The Tuomei Detachment encountered a difficult bone.

Each infantry battalion of the 341st Regiment of Germany has a heavy firearm company equipped with 6 81mm mortars and 3 75mm light infantry cannons. In addition, each infantry company also has a one including 3 60mm mortars, three 40mm "Iron Fist" grenade launchers and two 792mm mg38 universal machine guns, a 127mm mg35 heavy machine gun, and two mg38 equipped by each infantry squad. The German infantry regiment has 38 artillery with a caliber of more than 75mm that scares the Japanese army, 27 60mm mortars and nearly 200 light and heavy machine guns, with the strong firepower far exceeding the Japanese army's imagination.

The 341st German Infantry Regiment stationed in Nangen made Tuo Meihao suffer a lot. (To be continued...)
