28, The Battle of Songhu (1)

The plane flies over southern China, and the land appears particularly calm in August, but the war may soon burn here.

The 39th Fighter Regiment flew along the Xiangyue Railway to Guilin Airport. You can see rows of green military vehicles passing through the green rice fields divided into pieces along the narrow railway line, slowly squirming forward. The group of aircraft flew over mountains, rivers, woods, and the territory of Guangxi. There are rolling mountains and rivers everywhere, and there are few large plains, like a beautiful oil painting.

The German-made BF109 is a high-speed interceptor with good performance. The only disadvantage is that the range is too short. After replacing a larger fuel tank under special requirements in Guangxi, its range has only reached 900 kilometers, which is half the difference between the Austro-Hungarian F-5 "Hunting Falcon". However, its climb rate during combat is better than that of Austro-Hungarian fighters. If used for defense, its performance is better than that of the F-5 fighters, but its weaknesses are reflected during long-range transitions. The 39th fighter regiment needs to be transferred in Guilin to fly to Nanchang, while the 40th fighter regiment equipped with Austro-Hungarian f-5 fighters can fly directly to Nanchang Airport.

The 39th Aviation Regiment refueled at Guilin Airport. Kukochi met German military adviser Kahn here and learned that the situation in Shanghai was already very critical.

The Japanese army launched a full-scale attack in the northeast. In Jinzhou, the Kwantung Army broke through the Daling River defense line and landed in the Huludao area with the support of the navy. The Northeast Frontier Defense Force could only retreat to Chaoyang, Chifeng and Shanhaiguan. But in Qiqihar, the Northeast Frontier Defense Force crushed the Japanese attack and won the victory of the Jiangqiao defense battle. The Japanese army could only adjust its troops and temporarily stopped military operations on the Heilongjiang line. However, north of Heilongjiang, since the main forces of the Far East Army were concentrated on the Yenisei River line, the Japanese army went up the river. They basically encountered no resistance and had occupied Mohe.

In Shanghai, only Chen Leshan's 4th Army Division was stationed in Songhu, and Chief of General Staff Jiang Zuobin ordered the transfer of Jiangsu's 6th and 19th Army Divisions to urgently rush to Shanghai. However, Jiangsu Military Supervision Qi Xieyuan was worried that his strength would be damaged and deliberately delayed the operation.

The Japanese army attacking Shanghai seemed very arrogant. The Marine Corps, with only 8,000 troops, first launched an attack on Wusong. On the afternoon of August 13, the Japanese vanguard and the Fourth Division fought first at Wusongkou, and then fierce battles were launched in the urban area of Shanghai around the Japanese Concession Area in Hongkou.

The scale of the battle expanded rapidly, and both China and Japan began to launch a large-scale increase in troops to Shanghai. Japanese warships anchored outside the estuary of the Yangtze River began to shell the Wusong Fort. Chen Guangyuan ordered the Zhejiang Guardian Sun Chuanfang to dispatch the 10th Army Division to reinforce Shanghai.

After the 11th Aviation Division flew to Nanchang, it discovered a major mistake in China. They did not have enough airports in the most important East China region to accommodate combat aircraft of two aviation divisions. Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai are key areas of China's financial income. All forces are stalemate. Over the years, the two provinces have changed their senior management several times, and no one has the intention to invest in construction. So far, Jiangsu has only Nanjing, Yangzhou and Suzhou, and Zhejiang has only three airports. The capacity of these airports is not large, and at most one flight brigade can be placed. The situation in Jiangxi is not much better, and only Nanchang, Jiujiang and Ganzhou have airports. The Beiyang government has devoted its main energy to the north. The construction of the south is basically done by each province.

The situation in Anhui is slightly better, because it has been following the Anhui faction over the years. The Beiyang government also opened a steel plant with the Austro-Hungarian Carlson Steel Plant in Wuhu. Ni Sichong has always been a leader of the Anhui faction. After his death, his son-in-law Wang Pu succeeded as the Anhui army envoy and was taken care of by Beiyang.

Due to the strong military strength of Anhui, the Beiyang government has built seven airports in Wuhu, Anqing, Anhui Province, Guangde, Hefei, Ni's old nests, Bengbu, Chuxian and Taihu, and the scale is relatively large.

Nanchang Airport has been crowded into a group. The two flight regiments of the 11th Aviation Division and the two aviation brigades of the Gan Army themselves have squeezed the airport. There was no way, and the 39th Aviation Regiment had to move to Guangde Airport in Anhui.

Both China and Japan are mobilizing troops to Shanghai. The Japanese side has added the Tiangu Detachment stationed in Dalian and the Shigefuji Detachment of Taiwan, and later decided to send additional troops to the Third, Sixth, Ninth, Thirteenth, 101 and 106th Divisions of the Army.

In early September, the Japanese army transferred the Tiangu Detachment stationed in Dalian and the Shigefuji Detachment in Taiwan to Shanghai. Then they decided to send additional third, ninth, thirteenth, and 101th Divisions, two field heavy artillery brigades and two aviation wings to form the East China Expeditionary Force, with General Matsui Ishione as the commander, and the Navy sent a Chinese task force headed by four aircraft carriers.

At this time, the number of Japanese land and sea combat aircraft in East China had reached more than 1,000 and more than 80 warships, and was preparing to launch a three-dimensional decisive battle with the squadron.

A full-scale war between China and Japan broke out.

The Chinese side was naturally not to be outdone and once again increased troops to Shanghai. The General Staff issued a new combat order, and the 12th Army Division stationed in Jiangxi, the 7th and 8th Central Army Divisions stationed in Hunan, the 3rd, 13th and 24th Central Army Divisions stationed in Hubei, and the 1st and 3rd Divisions of the Anhui Provincial Army formed the East China Front Army, with Wu Peifu as the commander-in-chief and reinforcements to Shanghai. At the same time, the Central Division stationed in Guangdong and Guangxi also reinforcements to Zhejiang and Jiangxi.

At this time, all the waters near Shanghai were blocked by the Japanese Navy. Japan rejected the "mediation" of Germany, Austria, Britain and France, and insisted on expanding the war in China.

Due to lack of experienced pilots, after filling out the "voluntary personnel application form", the aviation consultants of Germany and Austria were able to set up aircraft to participate in the battle and become "voluntary aviation team members". In fact, they were still commanding and training the original aviation team. Lieutenant Colonel Kukochi filled out the form without hesitation. He was eager to fly the plane to experience the battle himself, but of course some people were unwilling to do so, and they were left behind.

Now, he has obtained a new position, the Chief of Staff of the 39th Aviation Regiment, on August 17, they finally waited for the order to join the war.

In August, the weather in southern China is not very good, and the sky will rain from time to time, and there is almost no sunny day.

In the morning, before dawn, Lieutenant Colonel Kukochi began to get up and arrive at the airport.

The airport was wet, and two young mechanics in oily work clothes were checking the Messmit fighter he was flying with the faint morning light. A mechanic poked his head out from under the wings, "Sir, are you going to do today? The pilots are already in the war room."

"Yeah." Kukoc replied ambiguously, starting to walk towards a two-story building next to the airport, and then tidied up his flight suit. The fur flight suit was very soft, but it seemed a little too hot in southern China.

Before the staff arrived, more than 30 young pilots in flight suits sat lazy in the large conference room, chatting with each other. The lights were on in the conference room, but thick blackout curtains were pulled on the windows. Most Chinese pilots came from wealthy families, liked to have long hair and were free and casual.

At 5:30 in the morning, all the pilots arrived. Colonel Chen Qiguang, the commander of the 39th Aviation Regiment, first made a pre-war mobilization. Later, Kukochi made a pre-war deployment. He pointed a long wooden stick at the footage of Japanese aircraft and warships reflected on a large screen, while telling the focus of the battle: attacking the Japanese Navy fleet.

The aviation fleet composed of four aircraft carriers of the Japanese Navy is not vulnerable to attack in the waters of the Zhoushan Islands, but the 3rd Fleet in the Huangpu River has been using naval guns to support the Japanese military operations on land, causing great damage to the defending Chinese Army.

"The armored cruiser of the Izumo has a standard displacement of 9,750. This is an old-fashioned armored cruiser built in the pre-Defensive era. It has strong protection and has been modernized and modified. It is currently the flagship of the 3rd Fleet of Japan." Kukochi pointed to the image released by the slide projector on the screen and said, "The main goal of our operation is this Japanese warship. Of course, other Japanese warships are also the target of this operation. Our goal is to force the Japanese fleet to withdraw from the Yangtze River."

He then pointed out several secondary targets, including warships such as the "Ghost Rage", "Yuliang" and "Yaeyama", mainly some light cruisers.

The 39th Aviation Regiment will dispatch all fighter brigades and bomber brigades at one time, including a total of 72 BF109 fighters and 48 Junkers Ju87 dive bombers. The fighters will also carry a 100-kilogram bomb that will interfere in combat. The main attack force is the dive bombers of three squadrons.

"Okay, that's the case. Fighters must continue to escort after the bomb drop, and bombers return immediately after the bomb drop is completed, without waiting for the formation!" Colonel Chen Qiguang concluded at last.

It was almost dawn, and at 6 o'clock in the morning, the order to depart was officially issued. (To be continued, please search for Astronomy, novels are better, updated and faster!
