Chapter 457 The general trend of the world

After Zhou Xuan explained to Yu Jiaolong, he stopped saying anything. He turned his head and said to Li Mubai with a serious expression.

"Mu Bai, what do you think of the general trend of the world now?"

The current situation in China is very bad. I believe that modern people know the tragic situation in the late Qing Dynasty in China. The great powers invaded the country at will, and there were countless unequal treaties. Basically, they would lose a battle after fighting, and then they would cede land and pay compensation, etc.

Although the political pattern of great unification continued, the decline of the dynasty has emerged. In some places, even publicly sold official positions and titles, political corruption, and the officialdom has fallen, and Emperor Daoguang did nothing.

The economy was firmly fixed on the pattern of the small peasant economy. However, at that time, the tea and silk exported by China were highly praised by foreign countries, but the limited imports of goods were poorly sold due to the public acceptance and purchasing power, which caused China to have a large trade surplus every year.

This is also the inducement of foreign countries to export opium to China before the Last Opium War.

In terms of thought, it is still the world of Confucianism. People's thinking stagnates and their ideological progress is slow.

In diplomacy, since the Qing government still pursued the national policy of closing the country, there was little exchange between the country and foreign countries. His understanding of foreign situations was also very shallow, and he had no judgment on the international situation, status, comprehensive level, etc.

What Zhou Xuan has to do now is to turn the tide and save the world.

He developed the power of Xinjiang, got the Qingming Sword, accepted Yu Jiaolong and Li Mubai, and only brought him two-thirds of his luck. Now he still needs one-third of his luck to be perfect. Although he looks less than one-third of his luck, he will have to spend a lot of effort to collect all of them.

If he develops steadily, he will not be able to make up for it in just a few years. However, with the past few years, he is not as good as a big vote. He has high risks and high returns, and he can make a fortune immediately after achieving success. And even if he wants to develop with peace of mind, the energy he will have to spend in this era will not be small.

It would be better to do big things directly, and this can save many people. Although this is very difficult to implement, there is also a lot of room for operation. After all, it is not the first time he rebelled, and he is considered an old rebel.

After hearing this, Li Mubai thought for a while. Then he raised his head and said to Zhou Xuan with a heavy face.

"Turn, internal and external troubles. Life is in trouble, and people are in trouble."

In the past few decades, he has experienced many things himself. It is just right to use the above words to summarize the current national situation. He is also very sad, but his ability is limited and he doesn't know what to do.

Zhou Xuan sighed with empathy, nodded to Li Mubai and said.

"You said it right."

Then he slowly walked to the window, looked at the sky with a serious look and said.

"From the Opium War in the 20th year of Daoguang (1840), to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement initiated by the first year of Xianfeng to the third year of Tongzhi (1851-1864), and the Sino-Japanese War of 1895 that occurred recently in the 20th year of Guangxu (1894). Our country is at a very critical moment."

China has suffered a lot of wars in recent years, and is basically in the position of losers.

The Opium War, the First Opium War. Britain often called it the First Sino-British War or the "Business War". It was an aggressive war launched by Britain against China from 1840 to 1842 and was also the beginning of modern Chinese history.

In 1840 (the 20th year of Daoguang), the British government decided to send an expedition to invade China under the pretext of Lin Zexu's Humen depleting cigarettes.

In June 1840, 47 British ships and 4,000 troops from the Army, led by Rear Admiral George Yilu and Yilu, the business supervisor in China, arrived outside the estuary of the Pearl River in Guangdong, blocking the sea port, and the Opium War began.

The Opium War ended with China's failure and compensation for land cedes. China and Britain signed the first unequal treaty in Chinese history, the Treaty of Nanjing.

China began to cede land, pay compensation, and agree on tariffs from foreign countries, seriously endangering China's sovereignty, and began to become a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society, losing its independent status, and promoting the disintegration of the small peasant economy.

The Second Opium War was a war of aggression against China jointly launched by Britain and France with the support of the United States and Russia.

The purpose is Britain and France, in order to further open up the Chinese market and expand its interests in aggression in China. Because Britain and France launched wars under the pretext of the Arrow incident and the Marx incident, it was called the "Arrow war" by the British, also known as the "British and French Allied Forces Campaign" or the "Second Sino-British War".

At the same time, because this war can be regarded as the continuation and expansion of the First Opium War (the essence of the two wars is the same), it is also called the "Second Opium War".

In 1860, the British and French forces invaded Beijing, the Qing emperor fled to Chengde, and the British and French forces broke into the Old Summer Palace and plundered jewelry and burned it.

After sending troops in the war, Tsarist Russia claimed to be "meeting on mediation" and coerced the Qing government to ced more than 1.5 million square kilometers of territory, thus becoming the biggest winner. The war ended with the Qing government's forced signing of the Beijing Treaty.

The Second Opium War forced the Qing government to sign peace treaties such as the Tianjin Treaty and the Beijing Treaty of China and Russia, and the invasion of the great powers became deeper. As a result, China lost more than 1.5 million square kilometers of territory in the northeast and northwest.

After the war, the Qing government was able to concentrate its efforts to suppress the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and maintain its rule. Foreign aggression forces expanded to coastal provinces and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The degree of semi-colonialization of Chinese society was further deepened.

The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom movement was from the first year of Xianfeng to the third year of Tongzhi (1851-1864) of the Qing Dynasty.

The peasant uprising war against the feudal rule of the Qing Dynasty and foreign capitalist aggression, led by Hong Xiuquan, Yang Xiuqing, Xiao Chaogui, Feng Yunshan, Wei Changhui, Shi Dakai, etc., was the largest large-scale anti-Qing movement in China in the mid-19th century.

But in 1864, with the fall of Tianjin (Nanjing), the capital of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the failure of the movement was marked.

Now the rapid development of Western capitalism is urgently needed to open up a larger commodity market and raw material production area, and begin to invade the old China. The national strength of the old China has declined and the internal crisis is serious, and it is on the eve of a huge change.

When Li Mubai heard what Zhou Xuan said, his face became more and more serious. He vaguely guessed Zhou Xuan’s meaning, but he was still not sure. He was quite nervous at this moment, but he still asked Zhou Xuan on his own initiative.

"Master, what do you mean?"

After hearing these things, Yu Jiaolong next to him was already stunned. She also guessed what Zhou Xuan was going to do, but she didn't dare to say it out loud. Her face was a little pale, and her eyes looked at Zhou Xuan were also very complicated.

Zhou Xuan looked at Li Mubai and Yu Jiaolong in a daze and said seriously.
