Chapter 703 Dom Cobb

Walking into the studio where the crew of "Inception" of Warner Studios is located, Matthew did not go to find Christopher Nolan first, but led by an assistant director and entered the just-built set area and took a look.

"Director Nolan has always insisted on real-life shooting."

Walking in the studio, the assistant director introduced, "We have to build real scenes or make models for all scenes."

Matthew had also heard of this, responded, pointed to the scenic spot and asked, "Is this the scene of the first scene?"

"Yes." said the assistant director.

Matthew remembered the script, and it must be a filming Cobb's feelings about water in the upper level of the world were transmitted to the dream of the lower level, which produced a surreal effect: the entire Japanese palace was flooded with surging water.

The assistant director pointed to a huge water tank in front of him and said, "We built a scene inside the huge palace and stored a total of 5,000 gallons of water in 26 water tanks carefully arranged in each window of the scene. These water tanks were opened in sequence under the drive of the mechanism, and the scene of flooding the palace can be created."

Matthew walked closer and looked at it. I have to say that there are indeed many magical places in the film industry that have developed to this day.

Real-life shooting is not about restoring the scenes needed in the movie 100% in the real world, but rather building similar scenes or building a reduced-scale model for shooting.

Compared with the CG technology that is widely used in Hollywood commercial productions today, real-life shooting is more time-consuming and labor-intensive.

Further in, on another separate set, Matthew saw a Vientiane ring device. The Vientiane ring has not been installed yet, and Christopher Nolan is directing workers to install it according to his requirements.

Matthew greeted Nolan, but stood by and watched without saying much.

However, from Nolan's requirements and the semi-open interior, he could roughly see that this was probably a weightless scene in the corridor.

Christopher Nolan reminded Matthew a few more words and called him to go to the nearby office together. The topic between the two was of course the upcoming movie.

"Matthew, I hope you're more prepared." Christopher Nolan said bluntly, "Your performance will determine the level of the entire movie."

"I will do my best." Matthew nodded and responded.

Christopher Nolan obviously had high expectations for him and said, "You have to sink into Cobb's role more and start from now on, you must establish the necessary emotional connection with the role."

As if he was afraid that Matthew would not pay enough attention, he gave an example and said, "A few years ago, I wrote "Memory Fragments" like a puzzle box. I was obsessed with structure and the short story of my brother. It was the actor who brought higher-level emotions to the characters."

Matthew didn't speak, he was just listening.

Christopher Nolan said again, "I wrote about the character's mental journey. I really want to think like him, but this did not make my script the core charm of this film. I think if an actor who is not doing well and does not experience the tragedy of being in that state, it will make the whole movie dry and tasteless, and people will not like it. It was Pierce's outstanding performance that opened the story. This unexpected emotional projection made the audience join the drama more than they expected."

Matthew has watched "Memory Fragments", but he has never persisted for ten minutes. This type of film is the type I don't like very much.

So, he didn't know how the actor named Pierce played in Nolan's mouth.

Of course, he could not say such words to Christopher Nolan.

"Matthew, what do you think Cobb's motivation is?" Christopher Nolan asked suddenly.

"Family!" Matthew's education is not high, but he can understand these from the script. "To be precise, it's for going home."

Family can be said to be one of the biggest themes of Hollywood movies and is also the most popular among audiences. Maintaining the family has always been a very correct value orientation. In "Hurricane Rescue" released this year, Uncle Neeson started a slaughter, causing trouble for the whole of Paris to make him uneasy. No mainstream media criticized his motives, because all this is for the family and for the family.

"What does home mean to the protagonist? I was not clear in the early days." Christopher Nolan said slowly, "It was not until I became a husband and a father that my life changed and the important things to me changed. Only then did I completely determine Cobb's motivation, that he wanted to correct his life and return to his family."

He specifically emphasized, "This is the highest emotion I can imagine."

"I understand." Matthew nodded, "I have no less desire for home than Cobb."

Since Christopher Nolan invited Matthew to play the male lead, he naturally understood his background. This is also one of the reasons why he took the initiative to find the other party to play the role of Cobb. He believes that Matthew's experience in his teenage years must be full of desire for home.

"Okay, Matthew," Christopher Nolan said very seriously. "You have officially joined the crew from today. There are two points I need to explain to you in advance."

Matthew immediately said, "Please tell me."

Christopher Nolan emphasized, "From today, you are no longer Matthew Horner, you are Dom Cobb. All the staff members in the crew will no longer call you Matthew, but call you Dom Cobb."

Matthew knew that this was to let him take the role in advance and fully establish an emotional connection with Daum Cobb. He nodded and responded, "No problem."

But this is not over yet. Christopher Nolan said again, "The crew is the working environment. I need you to create an atmosphere of Dom Cobb in the living environment, and also treat yourself as Dom Cobb."

This is a bit troublesome. Matthew is not only an actor, but also has other work to deal with. It is impossible to hide in the next six months and pretend to be Daum Cobb and throw away other work and not do it.

When Christopher Nolan saw Matthew not speaking out, he roughly guessed his concerns. After all, in addition to his identity as a director, he also has his own production company.

"I don't mean to put all your life into Dom Cobb." Christopher Nolan knew that it was impossible, and said, "You have to take a part of your life outside of work and establish enough emotional connection with Dom Cobb."

He gradually slowed down his speech, "The crew will soon sign a contract with the actress who plays Cobb's wife. I hope you have enough communication to create an atmosphere between the debut of Dom Cobb and his wife in daily life."

"I'll try this." Matthew said this and asked, "Can you know who the actress who plays Phantom Mel?"

Christopher Nolan said directly, "Anne Hathaway, the crew is discussing a contract with her."

It seems that the original version is not Anne Hathaway, right? Matthew flashed this idea and didn't say much. After all, Christopher Nolan and Anne Hathaway worked together, but it was Selena Kyle, the catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises".

Christopher Nolan suddenly stood up and stretched out his right hand.

Matthew quickly stood up and held it in Christopher Nolan's hand.

"I'm very happy that you've joined this team," said Christopher Nolan, "Mr. Dom Cobb."

Matthew had no smile on his face, all of them were gloomy, "It was a great honor."

Since Christopher Nolan has begun to treat him as Dom Cobb, he must show Dom Cobb's temperament.

This is a character with a rather gloomy temperament. In his understanding, Inception is a complex and intelligent action movie, while the character Dom Cobb has a secret that is increasingly overwhelming. In previous exchanges, Christopher Nolan has said more than once that he would add more dark levels to the character.

Christopher Nolan looked at his watch and said, "I'm going to audition this morning. The time is almost over. You can check it out everywhere on the crew. I'm going to the audition room."

Matthew's eyebrows were covered with clouds, and there seemed to be an unresolvable sorrow. He waved his hand casually, "You go and do it."

"Goodbye, Cobb." Christopher Nolan greeted him, then left the office and went to the audition room, and said to the assistant, "I'll inform you that from today, everyone in the crew will treat Matthew Horner as Dom Cobb."

Matthew left the office, walked around the studio, looked at other sets, and then went to a small studio opposite, where the crew held an audition.

I just walked to the entrance of the studio and before I could enter, two women, one tall and one short, came over.

Seeing the tall woman, Matthew took the initiative to greet him, "Good morning, Julia."

The two women also saw him. The tall woman stopped first and responded with a smile, "Good morning, Matthew."

The tallest woman is Julia Roberts. Matthew has seen her at some activities. A shorter woman is obviously much younger. She looks a bit similar to Julia Roberts, but she is more refined.

He immediately thought of some boring rumors in the circle and guessed that the girl should be Julia Roberts' niece.

But Matthew didn't say much. After all, both sides were not very familiar with each other. He just chatted with Julia Roberts and entered the studio.

Within a few words, he understood that Julia Roberts brought her niece Emma Roberts to attend the first audition for the role of Adney.

"Julia Roberts personally accompanied the audition, probably because he was sure to win this role."

While muttering, Matthew walked into the studio, then asked the staff and went straight to the waiting area for the supporting actors. James McAvoy also came to audition today.

As soon as I turned into a corridor, an actor hurriedly passed by the side.
