Chapter 19 As long as you are famous

"Hear, Matthew?"

Michael Sheehan stood up and said excitedly, "We are going to participate in a big project! Universal Pictures' "Gladiator"! Ridley Scott's "Gladiator"!"

The name Ridley Scott sounded a little familiar. After thinking for a while, Matthew asked uncertainly, "Is it the one who made "Alien"?"

"It's him! This is a front-line director!" Michael Sheehn was obviously too excited and grabbed Matthew's arm. "We are going to participate in the A-list project of the Hollywood studio!"

Matthew pulled out his arm and decided to pour some cold water on him, "The A-list project of the big studio? We are still in the last show, so I guess there is not even a frontal shot."

He was also a little excited, but not to the extent of Michael Sheehn.

"Uh..." Michael Sheehn scratched his head, "I'm thinking too much."

Helen Hermann's voice came again, "This job will be in the crew for a week. Those who are willing to go to register at the front desk, and those who are unwilling to go can leave now."

More than a dozen people stood up and walked away one after another. Others lined up to sign up at the front desk, and Matthew and Michael Sheeen also passed by.

Although I had to ask for leave from Red Penguin Company for a week when I went to the crew, Matthew decided to go!

As Michael Sheehn said, this job comes from Universal Pictures’ Gladiator project. Matthew has watched this film and vaguely remembers that Gladiator is a recognized good movie and is said to have won an Oscar.

While everyone was queuing up, Matthew heard Helen Hermann introduce the job more.

Originally, the crew of "Gladiator" planned to shoot this war scene in the UK. When inspecting the shooting site, they encountered large-scale protests from environmental protection organizations. The woods that were prepared for shooting were completely occupied by environmentalists. Universal Pictures had to launch a backup plan to return the crew to North America and complete the scene in a wood that was about to be cut down in northern California.

Due to temporary changes in the plan, the British intermediary company that the crew had contacted before had to give up and urgently recruited a suitable show after returning to Los Angeles.

Angel agency got a piece of the pie and collected some extras for the "Gladiator" crew who played German soldiers.

The job lasts a week, with a daily salary of $200. The crew is responsible for picking up and dropping off, and coordinates the food and accommodation of all extras.

In any case, the working conditions were much better than Matthew's work assembling a dead body some time ago. The only trouble was that he had to set off at eleven o'clock and asked for leave without buffering time.

After Matthew finished his registration, he immediately called Liszt and casually asked for an excuse to go back to his hometown in Texas. Amid the other party's rambling accusations, he finally took a week off.

"nailed it?"

Michael Sheehn, who also called for leave, walked back, and Matthew nodded slightly, "After taking a week's leave. Where are you?"

Michael Sheehan shrugged, "The boss won't give him a fake, I'll fire him!"

After chatting for a few more days, Matthew's eyes turned to Helen Hermann on the front desk, who was still wearing black-rimmed glasses and a professional lady suit.

"This woman is not simple." Matthew said to himself.

"What?" asked Michael Sheehn.

Matthew shook his head, "Nothing."

He looked at Helen Hermann and kept thinking that this angel agency had just been established and could get resources from a crew like "Gladiator". He should have deep connections and Internet cafes?

However, judging from Helen Herman's age, he has just graduated from college, so can he start a business at this age?

Although Matthew has not been in the United States for a long time, he has rich experience in social life. According to common sense on the other side, people like Helen Hermann generally have extraordinary family backgrounds.

Angel brokerage companies may be different from other small brokerage companies...

With such a guess in his mind, he then made a decision, should he show his presence in front of Helen Hermann? She could leave an impression on herself and would give priority to thinking about him when she had work.

It is important for a small person like him to take advantage of the situation.

After waiting for more than an hour, a bus came outside the building. Under the guidance of the reception staff at the front desk, all the extras, including Matthew and Michael Sheeen, got on the bus. The bus headed north and soon left Burbank territory.

"It's good to get a main character." Michael Sheean sat with him, looking out the car window, and said, "This kind of movie can change your life with a character."

His eyes seemed to be shining, "If you play a main supporting role in such a film, you will be qualified to win the male lead in those small productions!"

Matthew felt that he was overthinking and said, "The main supporting role is impossible. I'll be satisfied if I can show my face in the film and put the name on the ending subtitles."

"You've just entered the industry," said Michael Sheeon. "When you have been in Los Angeles for three years without improvement, you will understand how I feel now."

"I'm desperate to become famous?" Matthew asked.

Michael Sheehn nodded heavily, "Be famous! In Hollywood, as long as you become famous, you will have money! Have status! Have women!"

Hearing this and today's contact, Matthew felt that Michael Sheehn was similar to himself in some aspects.

It’s not surprising that how many people who entered this circle, especially actors, were for the performance art? I’m afraid that 99:9% of the people are like him and Michael Sheehn, for fame and fortune.

Two hours later, the bus left the main road and entered a hilly area. He walked forward for a few kilometers and slowly stopped on the side of the road.

Matthew and others were temporarily waiting in the car. Looking through the window, there was a small town's edge outside, with vehicles parked around it, from buses to cars to boom trucks used for shooting. Looking further from a distance, there were a sparse forest of people, and there were cameras set on the tracks, which seemed to be shooting.

Michael Sheehan looked over there excitedly and muttered, "How great would it be if I were the leading actor!"

"Brother, you're thinking too much!" A bald man in front heard his words and turned his head and said, "You can't compare to Russell Clow in twenty years."

There was a burst of laughter around him, and Michael Sheehn's face turned red. He was about to stand up, but Matthew grabbed him.

"No need," he whispered, "they will treat it as a joke if you say."

Michael Sheeen endured it and lowered his voice, "I remember them! When I get popular, I will ask them to go to my crew for a pre-examination. Then see who is the joke!"

The front desk assistant called everyone out of the car at this time. After Matthew got off the car, he found that Helen Herman had arrived long ago. He seemed to have just negotiated with a crew member with a beard and brought him over.

"Arranging your residence for you first, and follow closely later." Helen Hermann's voice was crisp, but his voice was high enough. "Then I'll share the contract with you."

She pointed to the receptionist and said, "I will leave the signature to Amanda."

"No problem." Matthew squeezed into a place closer to Helen Hermann. Helen Hermann glanced at him and continued, "I signed the contract to have lunch at the hotel where I stayed, and gathered at the entrance of the hotel at 1:00 pm to rehearse the shooting venue."

"Do you have something to do?" she asked the bearded man next to her. Seeing the bearded man shook his head, and then said to many extras, "Follow me."

Matthew and Michael Sheeon quickly followed, and a long team followed Helen Herman and the bearded man into the town.

The Angel Agency's people stayed in the same hotel. Helen Hermann looked young but had rich work experience. With the assistance of the bearded man in the crew of "Gladiator", he quickly settled the check-in of the extras and distributed contracts to everyone.

The hotel was in good condition, with two people in one room, and Matthew became roommates with the only Michael Sheen he knew.

It may take a week to stay. Matthew simply sorted his luggage, then opened the contract and looked at it. It was similar to the temporary actor contract he had signed before. What he was most concerned about was the remuneration, with a daily salary of up to 200 US dollars!

If you really shoot for a week, it would be $1,400 in income, and it would be almost up to the Red Penguin Company's salary for a month.

I have been in this circle for a while, and Matthew knew very well that similar opportunities were very rare, and he attached more importance to Helen Herman, a young agent.

"Is it okay?" Matthew asked after closing the contract.

Michael Sheehn was looking through it carefully, as if this was a superstar contract.

"I haven't finished watching it yet." He didn't raise his head.

It was almost lunch time that Matthew and Michael Sheeen left the room, came to the hotel front hall, handed over the contract to Amanda who was waiting there, and then went to the restaurant to have a meal.

This crew is rich and generous, and the lunch is not rich, but it is also quite good, at least many times better than the standard when Matthew had eaten alone.

After dinner, he took a break, and under the leadership of Helen Hermann, Matthew and other temporary actors left the town on time and came to the shooting set on the edge of the town.

This is a rehearsal without makeup. There are hundreds of extras on the outside of the set. There are woods on both sides of the set, and an open area is sorted out in the middle, which looks very suitable as a battlefield.

"Everyone comes here!"

The bearded man I saw in the morning appeared with a loudspeaker, as if he was the person in charge here. "Stand in two rows on the edge of the woods, scattered at the station! Don't stand in a queue! You are a group of unsavvy Germans!"

Hundreds of extras flocked into the woods like headless flies, and came to the edge of the open ground. They were so messy that they looked like a group of barbarians.

The bearded man stood at the highest place nearby, "I said, starting, you guys howl together! Howl angry! Do you understand?"

"Start!" he shouted loudly.

"Ao—"

"ah--"

All kinds of strange screams sounded instantly, and they were heard from afar.

Matthew was also shouting hard, because he was too strong and his face was almost twisted.

"Okay!" The bearded man seemed very satisfied, "Let's practice the next item..."

For battlefield scenes like this, rehearsals before shooting are essential. It took three days to rehearse the Germans where Matthew is and the Roman Legion opposite.
