Chapter 4 The Hunt

After the original prayer, someone tied the fat bird with a branch on his back.

Chen Jian was looking for a bird's nest in the grass around him, and finally found a few small birds in a secret place, squeaking with their big mouths open.

He grabbed a little grasshopper, tore it apart, and then screamed twice, and the bird opened its mouth.

The torn little grasshopper was put in his mouth. When the birds heard the popping sound, they immediately leaned their heads over and extended their tender yellow beak to Chen Jian's mouth and swallowed the food.

One of the three little birds is strong, and the other two are a little thin. Under natural conditions, this difference will become bigger and bigger. In the end, the strongest one will snatch all the food and make the younger brothers and sisters starve to death. It is much more kind than those who push the younger brothers and sisters out of the bird's nest after birth and throw them to death.

Chen Jian observed that the bird was a little bigger than the chicken, and it was furry all over, and it was cute and cute.

Unfortunately, he no longer sees everything around him with an aesthetic perspective. The question he is thinking about is: Can it be eaten? Is it delicious? Can it be tasty?

The first two have to wait until they return to the tribe to roast them before they can know, but the latter question seems to be answerable now.

Birds are omnivorous and are not afraid of strange animals.

The most important thing is that there are three birds in a nest, which is much better than those strange birds with one nest and one egg, which is also a very important issue.

I pulled a handful of willow branches and weaved a small basket according to the method of weaving the "earth basket" in the north, laying a layer of grass inside, and throwing the three birds inside.

Langpi looked at Chen Jian's flexible fingers curiously, shook his fingers, and finally gave up.

"Kan, this is not enough to eat."

"That black and white bear tells me that this can bring food to the tribe."

He did not explain, but directly used the excuse that the other party was most easily accepted.

The wolf skin immediately nervously took the small willow cage and held it in his hand, fearing that the birds would suffer some harm.

After packing up, everyone continued to move towards the distance. Chen Jian hunted a few birds on the road. His bow-pulling movement became more and more proficient, and his uncle and cousin became more and more surprised.

There were many birds along the way, and the stupid ones were not afraid of such animals that could walk upright but were inflexible, so the harvest became more and more abundant.

More than twenty birds were tied to their claws by notes of paper, and tied them together and carried them behind my uncle.

My uncle dared to use his hands to pull the feathered arrow because he found that the feathered arrow would not hurt him, but would only hurt these animals.

Moreover, he was very sensitive to discovering that whatever the arrow was aimed at would die. So he told the other people in the tribe about this amazing discovery, which attracted a burst of surprise and praise, probably what it meant.

As usual, these more than 20 birds have been considered a decent harvest. Cooperating with women's tubers, bird eggs and so on, it is enough to win one day in the competition with nature again.

But everyone is very interested today, thinking that with the protection of their ancestors today, perhaps the deer and sheep can bring more rewards.

After walking for a long time, the sound of running water came from the woods in the distance, but it was impossible to see because of the obscurity of the trees.

Wolf skin said that walking along the river would be a meadow with a herd of deer and goats.

Sure enough, after walking out of the disguised forest, a river valley meadow was revealed, unknown wild flowers blooming on the meadow with the smell of spring, and a group of deer were gnawing on the grass.

Several lambs kneel on the ground and drink their mother's milk. In the Chinese culture of their previous lives, sheep kneeling on their milk has become synonymous with filial piety.

Because of the clamor of the river and the direction of the wind, the deer did not discover their existence, but continued to enjoy the heavenly life leisurely.

Chen Jian recalled the tribe's previous hunting method. He had used spears occasionally, but the effect was not good.

I can only see a few heads and keep chasing behind me.

Whether it is a deer or a goat, the speed is much faster than that of a human, but in terms of endurance, it is far inferior.

Deer and goats are both ruminants and need to stop and ruminate the grass in their stomachs into their mouths and chew them again. If they run for a long time, they will have no time to ruminate the grass, or be swollen or exhausted.

Before humans appeared, these rumination-oriented animals became the largest population of herbivorous species. They chewed a few bites before they were chewed, digested without enemies, and ran away if there were enemies. They had huge advantages. Unfortunately, they encountered such a terrifying hunter as a hairless monster, and they were finally discovered.

In my memory, Chen Jian realized that the hunting in this era was not as he had imagined in his previous life. The situation of throwing a spear when he had a disagreement was only used when hunting large animals. Nowadays, the large animals nearby are basically almost eaten up. If you want to hunt deer and sheep, what you need is a competition of endurance.

No animal can be more patient than humans. The word hunting can only be mastered by hunters who rely on wisdom rather than instinct.

However, before the invention of the bow and arrow, the success rate was not high. So during yesterday's hunting, the tribe had to snatch half of the goat from the leopard's mouth. Although the leopard was dissatisfied, it was helpless.

Based on past experience, my uncle found a few of the best endurance, prepared to break up the deer herd after a while, and chased it until it was lying down to rest and continue.

Because Chen Jian was hunting for the second time, he was the kind of audience-style contestant who shouted in the circle, and his cousin Langsie was the main force in chasing the fugitives.

When the division of labor was clear and it was time to start, my uncle's leather pants were pulled by Chen Jian.

Chen Jian expressed his plan and naturally added the black and white bear guidance.

Everyone glanced at the dead bird on their backs. It was due to their reverence for the unknown and their recognition of bows and arrows, and finally decided to obey Chen Jian's arrangements.

Ten people quietly walked around from a distance to the opposite side of the deer group. Chen Jian left more than a dozen people, holding the stone spear in his hands, waiting for the opportunity.

More than twenty minutes later, the ten people suddenly rushed out from the opposite side and formed a half-encirclement net.

The frightened deer and goat fled towards Chen Jian frantically. Chen Jian drew his bow and suddenly shot several arrows after the deer and sheep approached.

Because there are no hard arrows, shooting birds is OK, but it is far from being killed by one arrow.

Can't be shot dead, but it can hurt these animals.

After quickly shooting all the feather arrows, only two deer and three sheep were shot and most of them were shot empty.

The group of people suddenly appeared, causing the exhausted animals to turn around and run in the opposite direction. The female beast tried its best to protect the little beasts. The little beasts that could not run immediately after birth were already dead, and the rest were all able to run.

There are not many people in the tribe, and there are gaps in every place, but with people's roar, these animals that originally gathered in groups can only choose to escape in scattered areas.

Chen Jian pointed to the deer with arrows stuck in his legs and shouted: "Chasing!"

Two or three others followed Chen Jian and ran towards the distance, while the rest were chasing the injured animals in groups.

The injured deer ran for a while, and when it opened the distance, it started to cry out. The feather arrows on their legs expanded the wound while running, and kept bleeding.

The wolf skin shouted, leaving the deer with no chance to rest. The remaining few people formed a big circle and kept driving the deer.

This is the first time Chen Jian has experienced such hunting in person. Every time the deer has opened a safe distance, these people will rush over quickly, driving the deer in the direction of others, and not giving the deer a rest.

Even with the injury to his legs, the deer still struggled for a long time. Unfortunately, it could not resist the hairless monsters who would use their brains to circle around, and finally couldn't support them. They lay on the ground and breathed in big mouths.

Several people began to surround from a distance. The deer looked at the crowd surrounding him in horror, trying to stand up again, but his limbs were trembling, and finally couldn't hold on, completely giving up resistance, and whimpered.

The wolf skin ran happily to the deer and struggled to hold the deer's neck.

Chen Jian pulled out the broken feather arrow, looked at the exhausted deer, looked at its terrified eyes, and laughed haha.

At this time, the words "This is cruel nature" were expressed to show the humanistic atmosphere. However, what Chen Jian thought was that the deer's shoulder blades were tied to a simple wood like a cross, and could be used as a plow among the primitive agricultural tool, which is a simple "shuttle".

I sighed a few words in the language of later generations. The people next to me didn't know what it meant, and thought he was celebrating, so I shouted with a cry.

Usually, hunting requires more than 20 people to cooperate, forming a huge encirclement, with several people driving away from behind and chasing alternately, and the prey they can catch every day is really limited.

The deer has good endurance, and sometimes it takes a long time to chase after it to completely lose the power of running.

As for the killing of a spear, it is said that an uncle who has been eaten by a tiger is very skilled, but unfortunately it has become a legend now.

Today, five people hunted a deer, and it didn't take much time. The sun had just left the top of the head, which was a miracle for everyone.

Amid the shouts of wolf skin, these people admired the bows and arrows in Chen Jian's hands even more.

Wolf skin even thought that after he went back, he would engrave a black and white bear on his wolf teeth amulet. He felt that today's hunting was so lucky, it must be the kind of black and white bear protected by Chen Jian's dream.

Chen Jian broke a branch and tied up the deer's hooves with vines. The two carried them, pointed to a hillside in the distance, and the five people ran towards the hillside.

The wolf skin quickly climbed to the top of the mountain, climbed to the top of a big tree, shouting loudly at the deep mountains in the distance, calling on the tribe members.

The forest is deep and the grass is dense, but the sound can penetrate the dense grove.

Soon, a few faint responses sounded from a distance, which was very far away, but not anxious.

The wolf skin jumped out of the tree, found some dry moss from the hole, tore a piece of bark into a rope, found someone to cooperate, and used dry branches to make a fire there.

The two of them were so tired that they were sweating heavily. Moss and wood chips finally showed some blue smoke. They lowered their heads and blew them gently. The subtle Mars finally turned into a leaping flame.

There are birch trees nearby. They cut a piece of birch with stones and tear them hard, and the white birch bark will be torn off the whole piece.

This is an excellent fire-induced object. Even if it rains hard, as long as there is fire, the oil-rich birch bark can be ignited.

When the bonfire was burning vigorously, it was covered with a pile of wet grass, and a thick stream of black smoke rose from the fire.

This is the height of the hillside, and with this black smoke, you can see clearly even dozens of miles away, so you don’t have to worry about them losing their direction.

All that remains is waiting.

Although I was very hungry, these foods were not eaten before returning to the tribe. Perhaps this had formed a primitive moral constraint, or a habit forced out of the harsh environment and the wilderness that had to be grouped together to survive - those who violated this rule would be driven out of the tribe.

Several people sat next to the fire, and the wolf skin took out the three little birds, imitated Chen Jian's appearance, teased them with insects, and made a popping sound in their mouths.

When the sun approached the peak of the distant mountain, the rest of the people finally came back, and there was a roar of excitement far away.

Compared with the past, today is a great harvest, two deer, three sheep, a big fat bird and many small birds, which is rare.

People shouted loudly, using words of lack to express their excitement.

At least, in the struggle against nature and wilderness, the tribesmen survived and became victors.
