Chapter 9 Rolling

The original owner of the war horse was lying on the ground. They were just a little confused, but in the end they lowered their heads and licked the peas and salt given by the new owner.

In a small settlement, thirty-seven horses, all injured were killed for food.

The escaped women and children will encounter ambushing by the raccoon cat, while those who did not escape will look at the people in front of them uneasy. The women hugged the children tightly, knelt on the ground and kept begging, or hugged the children behind them. They thought that maybe they would not be able to see this way.

Chen Jian sighed and waved his hand, "Let's kill them all, we can't take them away."

Perhaps because he was worried that his tribe members would not be able to do anything, he wanted to find the scalp of men who used them as handkerchiefs and told his tribe that he might become these handkerchiefs in the future if he did not kill them.

But the screams of the time he had just lowered his head and searched, and the tribe members were far more harder than he thought, so there was no need to say anything more.

The women did not resist at first, and they thought that they might be slaves, at least alive. But when the sword stabbed the child, they finally rushed towards Chen Jian with their hands empty, but it was meaningless.

Half an hour later, the raccoon came back with his tribe members, driving more than a dozen horses and some horse meat.

Looking at the corpses all over the ground, Chen Jian took a deep breath and said, "It's burned with the dried grass."

"There are still many sheep in the sheep pen?"

"Kill those who can't eat it."

"What a pity, don't you tell me to go back?"

The tribe members looked at the sheep in the sheep pen with heartache and patted their thighs with hatred. Chen Jian shook his head and said, "Kill me, as long as there is land, there will be sheep. Go to a few people, take the baggage team behind them, ask them to cut some wood in the woods, sharpen them, bring them over, and camp here at night. Scouts continue to find other settlements. Those with fewer people go directly to burn, kill and rob, and the more people you have, they will be rewarded."

"A few people ran away and they will know we're here."

"If you know, you know. We know where their big village is, and slowly move to the other side. People can ride horses, but we can't leave hay, right? Think about it, what would you do if these people appeared when we harvest wheat and burned wheat everywhere?"

"Go out of the city and fight them."

"They are the same. Without ox, horse and carriage, it is not easy to leave."

At night, the baggage team came to this razed settlement and made sharpened wood into deer forts around it. It will officially enter the grassland starting tomorrow. The trees are difficult to find, so these deer forts need to be carried.

The next day when Chen Jian arrived at another settlement, there were no people in the settlement, only traces left that the village had once remained, and only a little hay left.

At noon, a large group of people riding horses finally appeared. They appeared to the east, but Chen Jian knew that their big village was in the north because he had been there.

There were many people coming, ranging from thirteen or fourteen to thirty or forty years old, with more than 600 people. It seems that after those people escaped the day before yesterday, all the men had mobilized in this grassland settlement.

Chen Jian set up a camp, and the archers guarded the surroundings. The ox carts also acted as baffles on the high platform and side. The deer fort was inserted around, and the soldiers shuttled through them in an orderly manner.

Those riding horses were about four or five hundred steps away from them, and the two sides were temporarily confronting each other. Chen Jian was not in a hurry. The food was enough for more than twenty days to eat, and these donkeys could be eaten by the tribe members for a period of time.

But the other party must be anxious. The price of full mobilization is huge. If the grass is not mowed, the animals will go hungry.

Chen Jian looked at the cavalry in the distance with a smile, turned around and said, "Resting, roasting lamb, take your time. How do you feel when riding a horse?"

"It's great, much better than the horned deer, but I'm not used to it."

"How far is this place from the big village we went to in winter?"

"It's only forty or fifty miles, just go up the river. How did they turn from the east?"

"I'm afraid that we know where women and children are, they think we don't know where their village is."

A moment later, a chaotic sound came from the opposite side. Some young people came down from the horse's back and gathered together with bows and arrows, while some old people and children rode their horses and threw spears around the sides.

The leader, who was losing his son, looked at the black and white flags flying in the camp in the distance with resentment, gritting his teeth, but he was helpless.

All the settlements he led could only gather more than 600 men together. This was the limit. If he was to loot, he could find other tribes on the grassland to cooperate with him. However, other tribes would not help, but would rob him after he fought.

For a moment, he regretted the decision to migrate here from the West. The most powerful tribes may have integrated all the tribes together, no longer scattered flocks, and that would not be afraid of these people at all... Of course, in that case, the rights of his leader would be gone.

Time is not good for him, so he can only choose to fight. If he wins, everything is easy to say; if he loses, let the women and children move away first, and he will take the remaining tribe members to stick to these people, harass them and make them unable to walk fast. These people cannot ride horses, and they will definitely not be able to catch up with women and children, and they do not know where their village is.

As long as there are women, horses, and sheep, at most, some elderly and weak will starve to death in winter. In more than ten years, the tribe will still exist.

There is no need to say anything more about hatred, those burned settlements are the best pre-war speeches.

The tribesmen dismounted their horses one after another. The horse riding was only useful for harassing and attacking the defeated soldiers. The cavalry, which had no stirrups and would not throw spears, had no ability to defeat the infantry formation.

The elderly and weak children rode horses and threw spears to harass near the camp. They couldn't fight, so they could only do this.

Chen Jian also sounded the horn of the ox in the camp. Except for the hundred soldiers guarding the baggage and serving as reserve teams, the rest of the people took their weapons and followed the positions they had practiced while camping along the way, and the archers lined up in three rows, facing the front.

"White Horse, take people to deal with the elderly and children. Don't go too far. Just control their spears and throw them into the camp."

The scouts came out from the back of the camp to form a team, and they were not used to holding the horsehair. The old men and children on the opposite side did not form a team, but circled in a distance, as if they wanted the scouts to chase them.

Chen Jian blew a whistle and signaled not to leave the camp too far, just protect the flanks around him, and he was not allowed to pursue him without any impact.

The enemy on the opposite side began to move forward tentatively, and more than a hundred people were behind the crowd. The leader's plan was to rely on the horse's maneuver and go around the rear of the camp after the war began.

The time for these 100 people to be dispatched needs to be grasped. If it is too early, Chen Jian will prepare early. Only when both sides are anxious can they immediately circumvent chaos.

Chen Jian stood on the ox cart, with four shield hands blocking the surroundings. When he watched the other party move towards this side in a mess, he asked the spearmen to go forward six or seven steps in front of the camp. The earliest group of archers who were good at archery followed behind the spearmen.

When the enemy was still a hundred steps away, the archers in the camp followed the sound of the drum and started the first round of volleys.

The feather arrows fell like locusts on the grassland, towards the densest place of the team, and they also started shooting on the opposite side, but the angle was obviously wrong, and only a few fell into the camp.

With two rounds of volleys, more than 30 people fell down on the opposite side. The elderly and children in the outer circle also began to approach the camp to prepare to throw harassment. The white horse immediately rushed over with his people, got off the horse and counterattacked with a bow and arrow, forcing the opponent back, and then got on the horse, always maintaining a distance of 40 or 50 steps. If you don't get close, you will follow. If you get close, you will dismount and shoot, and rely on your mobility to safely protect the flanks.

When the distance between the main forces of both sides was only seventy or eighty steps, hundreds of people riding horses in the distance suddenly moved quickly from the left side of the camp toward the back.

The leader thought it would cause Chen Jian's panic, and at least some people would be assigned to guard the back of the camp, but Chen Jian was unmoved.

As if he didn't care at all, when the hundred people were about to go around the left side of the camp, Chen Jian beat the war drum, and the soldiers lined up in front of the camp began to move forward slowly.

The leader on the opposite side couldn't understand and shook his head and said, "What do he want to do? The less than 200 people in front of me want to fight with more than 400 people in my country? Is this person crazy?"

When the distance between the two sides was only more than forty steps, the hundred people finally walked around the back of the camp, but the archers in the camp also pointed the bows and arrows at them. Half of the archers picked up the spear and leaned on the deer fence of the camp and arranged the formation.

The plan is perfect, but the reality is different. The leader on the opposite side thought that he would focus on the front and everyone in Chen Jian’s office would concentrate on the front. Once the battle was fought, more than 100 people would go around and attack the empty camp behind.

However, Chen Jian only took out half of the people to deal with the front, and the people who were around could no longer decide on victory or defeat, because the camp was not confused or empty.

The soldiers at the front of the camp followed the drums and kept in a neat formation. They walked forward to the camp twelve or three steps away. The scouts on both sides protected their flanks, and they were not worried.

The feather arrows on the opposite side shot more than a dozen people. The people in the back immediately filled up the formation and finally got closer to a distance of forty or fifty steps. The drum sound suddenly became rapid.

The wolf skin called on the earliest group of archers around him who had been practicing hard for more than half a year and took out the heavy arrows in the quiver. These arrows were heavier than the other feather arrows shot. The enemy who hit the short distance could make the opponent lose his combat effectiveness in a short time.

The gap was left in the team and aimed casually at the people on the opposite side who were shouting and starting to charge. The string sounded and the arrows came out, and the opposite side immediately fell down a row.

After two rounds of shooting quickly, the sound of the horn blew up, and all the soldiers launched a charge in a five-man team.

On the one hand, he was a half-professional warrior who had been trained for more than half a year, and on the other hand, he was a tribal member mobilized. This is why Chen Jian was confident that he could use less than 200 people to deal with the first 400 people.

There was no suspense at all. The formation full of space after being shot by the archer could not stop these soldiers who had already understood the cooperation of the five.

From volleys to charge to catch the enemy, there were only three breaths, but nearly a hundred people had fallen from the opposite side.

The leader behind looked at the battle ahead with a little foolish look, and finally realized that the other party was not crazy at all, but did not take such a person at all!

It seemed as if a hungry wolf had entered the sheep pen, and the brave tribe members of their tribe could not resist at all. The blue-black weapons were much sharper than the stones they used, and the leather shields they covered even blocked the tribe members' stone spears.

He just felt that the army formation on the opposite side was very strict, but he never expected that the gap would be so big. His tribe members were like toads trampled by horse hooves, and they didn't even have the ability to make the horse feel stinging.
