Chapter 232 Wenzong Taiyan

Chapter 232 Wenzong Taiyan

When he came to Shanghai, the person Zhong Yang wanted to meet the most was not his future father-in-law, nor was he a gangster father like Du Yuesheng, but Mr. Zhang Taiyan, who could be called a generation of literary scholars.

He is now fifty-eight years old and now lives in Shanghai, a prosperous and free city. Although the freedom here is permeated with blood and sin, there is no doubt that the concessions of the great powers are to protect all kinds of literati who criticize the government and the current situation.

Zhang Taiyan, whose name was Binglin and whose courtesy name was Meishu, was originally named Xuecheng, and later changed his name to Jiang and his pseudonym Taiyan. As a Han literati, what Zhong Yang admired most was his thoughts on Pak Man, not to mention his identity as a famous master of Puxue in modern China. His research on ancient culture covers primary schools, history, philosophy, politics, etc., and his writings are very rich.

Especially in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, he has profound attainments. He has written books such as "The Theory of Cholera" and "The New Theory of Sudden Diseases". Someone once asked Zhang Taiyan: "Is Mr.'s knowledge the first in classics or history?" He replied: "To be honest, I am the first in medicine." Zhang Taiyan also said: "My knowledge is not the first in classics, nor the first in history, but the first in medicine."

From this we can see that he attaches great importance to traditional Chinese medicine. Such a person is exactly what the ancient Chinese community urgently needs. To protect the fire of Chinese civilization, we must find more such people and more classical texts.

In a fresh and ancient study room at the mansion at No. 2 Yufuli Road, an old man with a thrilling spirit was sitting at the table, holding the ancient books in his hand and reading them with relish. It was the fragment of the "Yongle Encyclopedia" sent by someone a few days ago. With Zhang Taiyan's eyes, of course it could be seen that this was a rare book.

Like many real literati, Zhang Taiyan's study has exquisite furnishings, focusing on simplicity and clarity. But even so, a classical and elegant atmosphere naturally reveals it, allowing people to know the depth at first sight. It is here that Zhang Taiyan often talks with literary friends, sips tea and chess, reads and plays the piano. Therefore, bookshelf, Eight Immortals Table, Taishi Chair, Chess Table, Guqin, etc. must be equipped, and there are also "rhymes" that reflect "Han cypress and Qin pine backbone, Shang Yi and Xia ding spirit".

A large desk or painting table is placed in the middle of the study, which is of great importance. A pen holder, bookshelves, inkstones, pen washing, paperweight and other four treasure stationery in the desk. Under the table, a foot pedal is often placed in front of the chair. The foot pedal with a massage roller can promote blood circulation and stimulate the owner's creativity.

The surroundings are decorated with Bogu cabinets and arhat beds, and other small furniture, calligraphy and paintings, antiques, etc., which are simple and elegant. Boxes are also common furniture in study rooms, with books, scrolls and writing utensils in boxes.

A long table is placed against the wall, with cultural relics on it, and calligraphy or paintings are hung on the wall above the long table. I don’t know if it is a famous painting by the He family, with an unusual style and ancient charm, with a pine and kingfisher, full of fun.

Zhang Taiyan savored the ancient scrolls in his hand carefully, and he was quite impressed. At the same time, he was also quite moved in his expression. Just a few days ago, someone visited him and wanted to see him. This book is not a big deal. With the three words Zhang Taiyan's reputation in the cultural and political circles, I don't know how many people hope to gain glory in China through their status.

But that letter made him unable to let go of it for a long time. The content of the letter was not long, nor was there any signature or honorific words. There was only one question: "I want to save the civilization of China for thousands of years, do you mean it?"

"How long has it been since I met such an arrogant person?" I murmured, as if I was recalling my past frivolity and arrogance. That letter was written by Zhong Yang, and the purpose was to talk to Zhang Taiyan about the future development of ancient Chinese civilization.

Just when Zhang Taiyan was still immersed in his thoughts, his wife Tang happened to knock on the wooden door of the study: "Master, a guest is visiting." Her gentle voice seemed to be full of literary spirit, making people know that she was a talented woman at first sight.

Tang Guoli is a famous talented woman. Zhang Xingyan once said: "My sister-in-law, Ms. Tang Guoli, has a colorful and talented person. She is just a literary name for her brother. She will be gentle and diligent to take care of her master. She will not be happy if she is not happy with her brother."

Zhang Taiyan was even more helpful to his wife Tang Guoli throughout his life. When he married Tang Guoli, Zhang Taiyan was over 40 years old. On June 15, 1913, Zhang Taiyan and Tang Guoli held a wedding in the Harmony Garden in Shanghai, and the witness was Cai Yuanpei.

Interestingly, the two were not married to each other, but introduced by others. Tang Guoli was originally from Wuzhen, Wuxing, Zhejiang Province. In 1913, when she was 30 years old, she was introduced by Zhang Mojun, a classmate of Shanghai Wuben Girls' School, and Mr. Zhang Bosheng, a member of Tongmeng. She married Zhang Taiyan.

Both husband and wife have common pursuits in cultural cultivation and their relationship is harmonious. Looking at the gentle smile on his wife's face, Zhang Taiyan was also happy: "I understand, let's go right now." After looking at the wall clock on the wall, Zhang Taiyan knew who the guest was the appointment, and the man undoubtedly thought it was Zhong Yang.

He is also very interested in such an interesting person and wants to meet him in person, observing his demeanor and talent.

The unique and elegant living room is simply decorated, but it has a unique charm inside, reflecting the character of a literati and the pursuit of life. It is not a bitterness, but an inner spiritual enjoyment. The fresh and elegant home atmosphere can fully relax the tense and busy mood.

Looking at the profound literary atmosphere in front of you, Zhong Yang also felt that such a life was good. In his spare time, he brewed a cup of light tea, sat on the simple and elegant cushion and imagined freely. When he was tired, he would huddle into the soft cushion and sleep well.

The few small pottery items on the coffee table are also the cleanest and most elegant types, which will make the time to make friends with tea more romantic. This is the low-key and literacy in the details, not material clichés and ostentatiousness.

Zhong Yang didn't wait too long. Zhang Taiyan was not the kind of scholar who was a big shot and pretended to be noble. He was also well-educated when dealing with people. Through the bright light that shot into the room from the window, Zhong Yang looked at the literary master in front of him carefully. It can be said that he was the most important cultural inheritor in China in this era.

Although Zhang Taiyan is very knowledgeable and famous, he is not very attractive as a man. When it comes to appearance, he is not handsome, his skin is almost yellow, his beard is pitifully sparse, and his abrupt forehead almost looks wart-like. There are only those thin eyes: behind the top-quality boundless glasses, the thin eyes that are often smiling coldly are indeed a bit unique.

The most eye-catching thing is that his lenient and indifferent attitude has the fearless spirit of Zen Buddhism. No wonder, a common man dared to act arrogantly in front of Yuan Shikai and refused to obey. As expected, he has the character of a Chinese scholar and a gentleman spirit.

"Mr. Zhang, I have met Mr. Zhang." Zhong Yang also admired such a person in his heart, and it is also necessary to have some respect.

"Oh, I wrote to me that day, and it turned out to be yours. I didn't expect that the younger generation would have a madman like you." After saying that, he laughed endlessly. This was not a sarcasm, but a relief.

I originally thought that Zhong Yang was probably a frivolous and arrogant person, but I didn't expect that when I saw him, I realized that this person was calm and calm. Looking closely at his temperament, he was like a dragon and tiger, like a mountain and a sea, majestic and vast, and was definitely not a mediocre person. The spirit of self-esteem and fearlessness is just like Wang Yangming's core philosophy in his mind - value his heart and self-esteem and fearlessness.

"Sir, I don't say much. I'm here today to discuss it just for one thing." The two of them sat upright on the mahogany chairs based on the host and guest positions. Zhong Yang didn't talk nonsense, went straight to the point, intending to invite Zhang Taiyan to join the ancient Chinese Association to handle cultural collection and sorting. Of course, the part involving smart factories and sub-spaces will not be said yet.

"Oh? I don't know what you said, what is the matter?" After just a rough observation of Zhong Yang's aura, Zhang Taiyan learned that the young man in front of him was definitely not an ordinary person. He was either rich or noble, or he was in his heart, and had both strategies and ambitions and talents. Therefore, he did not dare to be arrogant, so he respectfully called him "Your Excellency".

When he heard Zhong Yang's words use "controversy" rather than "conspiracy", he roughly understood the nature of this matter. As expected, Zhong Yang's next words made him quite interesting.

"China has been around for more than 5,000 years since the beginning of Yanhuang. The Han Dynasty has been shaking and has suffered many disasters. To this day, it still has to face the forced force of Western learning to the east. The Taoism is in danger. I am not talented and I am willing to use my own strength to reverse the trend of the world. However, human power is sometimes poor, and in this world, if you don't gather all the wise, you will not achieve great things. I hope that Mr. can help me with one arm, support the world, and return the people of our clan to a bright world."

At the same time as Zhang Taiyan, Zhong Yang bowed deeply and sincerely expressed his inner ambitions. He did not seek fame and fortune, nor did he seek power, but only for China. The way of heaven is vast and the way of humanity is vast, and there must be someone seeking and giving.

"What do you want to do?" Such a thing is touching, but Zhang Taiyan has experienced so many ups and downs, seen many people who are right and wrong and eloquent, and will never help others just for such words.

"I have established an association of classical culture researchers, intending to start with the compilation of ancient Chinese cultural thoughts and literary classics, and systematically and theoretically integrate the past of Chinese civilization in order to inherit the past and open up the past and open up the future. Therefore, I want to ask the teacher to come forward and arrange for me. You are the expert in cultural affairs."

These words are sincere. Today's ancient Chinese Association has long had enough strength to lay the foundation for cultural concepts in the early stage. Although they were doing it before, the current situation has not yet settled, the economy has declined, and the military strength cannot protect itself. What's more, it is to stick to its own philosophy?

It is precisely because of his confidence in his strength that Zhong Yang dares to come here openly and recruit some people who are determined to explore the cultural path to pursue their dreams together.

"I see your atmosphere, and I am definitely not a person who speaks freely. However, I have learned this life and know that this is difficult. The current situation in China is really powerless to turn the world back, and it is very difficult to leave a spark. I absolutely support what you said, but the path you choose is not easy to walk."

What Zhong Yang said did make Zhang Taiyan very moved. But firstly, he was not familiar with the ancient Chinese texts mentioned by Zhong Yang. Secondly, in the face of the general trend of the world, the war between the north and the south is still in full swing, surrounded by the great powers. Isn’t it easy to revitalize China? He was not sure what level could Zhong Yang’s persistence reach.

In this case, it was not that no one had talked to Zhang Taiyan before. But either he had ulterior motives or he was just a traitor like Liu Bannong who wanted to destroy Chinese civilization in the name of saving China.

"There is no easy way in the world. I don't ask Mr. to make a decision now. I just want Mr. to go to my place first, and then consider our cooperation. Time will witness everything. I am not afraid of the passage of time. I should strive for courage in this life." In my eyes, lightning flashed, and the determination and courage that gushed out all infected Zhang Taiyan's heart.

Zhang Taiyan did not refuse Zhong Yang's invitation, but did not agree. This represents attitude and intention, which means that the other party still needs to examine it first before making a decision. Zhang Taiyan is not a hasty person, and he must have his own thoughts on whether to join the ancient Chinese Society.

On this point, Zhong Yang was not angry. Such prudence was the talent needed by the ancient Chinese community. Besides, Zhong Yang was not worried that the other party would not agree. With Nanlian's current strength, it would soon be able to calm the southeast and build a foundation that others could not shake. With the power of the smart factory, there was no doubt about this.

The two talked in detail for a long time, talking about the details of the collection, reorganization and volume of cultural classics. Moreover, in the field of ideological research and exploration, both sides also exchanged their own opinions. Zhang Taiyan also began to learn about some things about Southern Union.

Before this, because of the low profile of Nagorno and the prejudice of the newspapers in other provinces, most of the matters published in newspapers were unable to comment on Nagornono from a fair standpoint.

Especially in the current Shanghai public opinion circle, it is controlled by Du Yuesheng. In order to influence public opinion, Du Yuesheng tried his best to win over intellectuals in the press. The editor of the Newspaper, Tang Shichang, became his first apprentice in the press. Since then, famous journalists such as Wang Songnian, Zhao Junhao, Yao Sufeng, Yu Zhewen, and Li Chaofan have all become Du Yuesheng's disciples, either openly or secretly. Through these people, Du Yuesheng controlled a large number of practitioners in the press.

In the press, those who depend on Du Yuesheng are not only professionally guaranteed, but also monthly allowances. It is said that the amount of allowance is quite considerable. According to the currency value at that time, if the subsidized person deposits the allowances in the bank, he can buy a car a year. However, if they do not buy Du Yuesheng, they will not only knock out their jobs, but they will even have their lives.

After using both soft and hard work, Du Yuesheng has become the manipulator behind the news industry. Many important news, even the top news, have been arranged, will often disappear suddenly as long as Du Yuesheng "gossips" are just a word.

After this series of activities, Du Yuesheng not only had his own influence in the underworld, but also in the intellectual circle. Among the "three tycoons" in Shanghai, Huang Jinrong and Zhang Xiaolin were called "Boss Huang" and "Master Zhang" respectively, but Du Yuesheng was given an elegant title - "Mr. Du".

Jiang Ruiyuan's brother, a strong supporter of the ** Party, can he have good sense of Nanlian, which has always been fighting with the ** Party? Of course, he can do it if he can go dark. As for newspapers in other places, most of them have their own political backgrounds or their own academic factions.

There are not many people who truly understand the facts and have a pertinent attitude towards an emerging force like Nanyang Union.

Sitting in his car, Zhong Yang was in a pretty good mood. Although his words with Zhang Taiyan may not be better than reading for ten years, he has gained more or less. In terms of ancient cultural knowledge, he really has a deep knowledge foundation. Moreover, he has extraordinary attainments in the study of traditional Chinese medicine.

However, the two have some differences in their treatment of Buddhism. As a great scholar with a wide range of knowledge, Zhang Taiyan also has research on Buddhism that has been widely spread in China, but it only started after he was thirty years old, and there have been many twists and turns in it.

Unlike his Buddhist believers, Zhang Taiyan studied Buddhism mainly to obey the needs of real politics, that is, the requirements of the bourgeois faction against the Qing struggle in the early 20th century were not for pure philosophical or religious academic research. After being released from prison in 1906, he went to Tokyo and proposed in his speech to international students, "It is necessary to use religion to arouse faith and enhance the morality of the people... It is the most important to promote Buddhism for the sake of social morality; it is also the most important to our army's morality." This is the purpose of Zhang Taiyan on Buddhism.

Zhong Yang is in Guangzhou and has many contacts with Mahayana Buddhist believers, but he is not very clear about the subdivisions of Buddhism. After Zhang Taiyan's detailed description, he realized that there is a difference between Zen, Pure Land and Tantric Buddhism. After some discussion, some of the content of Buddhism have also been improved.

The Zen concept advocated by Zhang Taiyan is first of all to "initiate faith", that is, to require the bourgeois faction to establish the fearless spirit of "relying on oneself but not others", which is of great benefit to China's future:

In the last days of Ming Dynasty, those who fought against Manchuria and refused to return were not those who were happy to Zen, or those of the Yaojiang School. In the Japanese reform, Wang Xue was also the leader of Wang Xue. How could Wang Xue have other strengths? It is also called "self-esteem and fearlessness". Those with lofty principles are generally based on the Buddha's Vehicle, and those who teach the people of the country only cut off a few words. This is the great skill of Zen.

Is there no simple choice for Buddhist studies? Because although the virtues of the China are different, their roots are all in one place, and they say "By relying on oneself but not others."... Buddhism has been practiced in China, and there are dozens of sects. Only Zen Buddhism is the most prosperous, so it values its own heart and does not support ghosts and gods, which is intimately consistent with Chinese psychology. Therefore, in Buddhism, the Pure Land and the two secret sects do not take something.

There are many sects within Buddhism, and Zhang Taiyan is so devoted to Zen Buddhism that he is critical of both Pure Land Buddhism and Tantric Buddhism. On this point, Zhong Yang also expressed his understanding and support. Whether practicing or governing the world, he should start with his mind. He is empty and ignorant of wisdom, abandons me and seeks Buddha, seeks blessings in vain, and seeks blessings in the next life. How is this what the humanity does?

Since the late Tang Dynasty, Zen Buddhism has become the mainstream that dominates the Chinese Buddhist altar. The theory of Zen can be attributed to the three principles of "the self-mind is the Buddha", "sudden enlightenment and becoming a Buddha", and "no thoughts are the sect". Zhang Taiyan summarized it with the "self-mind his heart" and deeply understood the purpose of Zen Buddhism. Zhang Taiyan believes that the reason why Buddhism is useful is that it has the spirit of "self-mind his heart" and "self-esteem and fearlessness".

On this point, Zhong Yang also expressed his recognition. However, he was also deeply wary of the influence and ability of Pure Land Buddhism. Most of the Mahayana Buddhism that is popular in the world is Pure Land Buddhism, which allows people to accumulate blessings, seek good results, and intimidate believers with reincarnation and hell. This is something that Zhong Yang hates and rejects.

If the people have a heart, they should learn Buddhism. Zen Buddhism seeks the heart and helps people understand themselves. This is desirable, and Zen Buddhism is not like the Pure Land Buddhism, which expands its influence among the people in arbitrarily way. It also accumulates money from the hands of believers and acts domineeringly, with a great taste of being the only one. I always think that the whole universe is right, and if I don’t believe in Buddhism, I will go to hell.

To establish culture, one must first establish one's own beliefs. Zhong Yang is now trying to follow the gentleman's way of China since ancient times.

Heaven moves vigorously, and a gentleman strives for self-improvement. The earth is quiet, and a gentleman carries things with virtue.

Self-improvement, be virtuous and knowledgeable, treat people smoothly, and be strong in heart. This is the way of a gentleman. Hardness and softness are combined, inclusive, persistent, and a demeanor to accommodate all rivers. This is the mentality and grand spirit that the Chinese people should have. The Han and Tang dynasties are all here.

Zhong Yang hopes to pick up the lost Chinese soul little by little until our clan can raise his head and chest again and move forward with high spirits...
