Chapter 102 Gui Chuding

The remaining troops of the Gui army retreated to Longzhou, and there were still more than 20,000 people willing to continue to follow Lu Rongting. With the natural danger and the mountains, Lu Rongting's brother-in-law Tan Haoming resisted here, and for a while, it was difficult for the Guangdong army to capture it.

Although there were natural dangers, the Gui army was short of ammunition and food, so they were incompetent. Chen Jiongming was unwilling to increase casualties, so he adopted a plan to delay the army. He first sent people to recruit and pacify, while returning to Guangdong to mobilize heavy troops to reinforce, attempting to seize Longzhou in one go and thoroughly assess the chaos in the south.

After the Guangdong Army entered Guangxi, the defeated Gui army was incorporated, and the Guangxi warlords could only make some sporadic resistance. For example, the rebel general Wei Rongchang of Lu Rongting was sent to Xuanfu, Longzhou, but after arriving in Longzhou, he was ordered by Tan Haoming to walls. More unorganized Gui army remnants were temporarily scattered into the mountainous areas in various places, becoming bandits or bandits.

Even Lu Rongting had to go into exile in Shanghai, temporarily acting as an official to retreat. Only Tan Haoming gathered troops to entrench in Longzhou, refusing to bow his head due to the dangerous mountain passes.

Longzhou County is located in the southwestern part of Guangxi, 200 kilometers away from Nanning City, the capital of Guangxi. It is adjacent to Jiangzhou in Chongzuo in the east, Ningming in the south, Pingxiang in the northeast, Daxin in the northeast, located at the upper reaches of the Zuo River, where the Ping'er River and Shuikou River converge, and is adjacent to Gaoping Province, Vietnam. In terms of history, Longzhou's defensive value in the entire southwestern part of China cannot be underestimated.

When France invaded China from Vietnam in 1885, the national hero Feng Zicai used Longzhou as a base to fight against the French occupation forces and won the Zhennan Pass. After the Sino-French War, France set up a consulate in Longzhou, and in 1887, Longzhou was even designated as a trading port. This shows that everyone attaches importance to Longzhou, and the military value here is indeed worth spending a lot of effort.

In 1891, in order to resist foreign invasion, Guangxi Admiral Su Yuanchun built Xiaoliancheng in Jiangshan, eight miles southwest of Longzhou, with a castle fort, winding for more than 5 kilometers. This made the entire Longzhou as a solid foundation, making people afraid. This further highlighted Longzhou's status as an important border defense center, with Shuikou Pass in the west and Pinghe Pass in the southwest.

If it weren't for these factors, Tan Haoming wouldn't have the confidence to think that the defeated generals of less than 30,000 under his command could stop the powerful Guangdong army. He just wanted to delay time and eliminate Chen Jiongming's spirit, so as to wait for Lu Rongting to seek help from the northern warlord government.

Not only that, this is the first place in Guangxi to start an industrial enterprise that uses machinery to produce. In 1889, Su Yuanchun, the Guangxi Border Defense Supervisor, founded the Longzhou Manufacturing Bureau in Shuangfengshan, the western suburb of Longzhou County. In fact, it was an arsenal, and purchased the machinery and equipment produced by the Kruber factory in Germany to produce bullets and repair guns. However, in 1914, Guangxi Governor Lu Rongting had moved the machinery of the bureau to Nanning, and the Longzhou Manufacturing Bureau immediately stopped the operation. If not, Tan Haoming would not have lacked guns and ammunition as he is now. However, he was very energetic at the time and did not expect that he would be as down and down as he did today.

Facing the Guangdong soldiers gathered in the Shangjin area, Tan Haoming did not dare to attack without authorization, so he could only entrench in the county town of Longzhou County and rely on natural dangers and forts to defend. He made up his mind to not retreat, not seeking merit but seeking no mistakes.

From the map of China, Guangxi is like a flat and wide mulberry leaf. It is famous for its 100,000 mountains, 60,000 mountains, and cloud-open mountains, and the unique water system of the Honghe River water constitutes the leaf veins of this mulberry leaf. Its water is as crimson as the original juice of life; its land seems to have turned into red soil due to the nourishment of the Honghe River water; and above this land is covered by the green all over the mountains - lush green like mulberry leaves, thus creating a beautiful landscape of "Guilin's mountains and rivers are the best in the world".

The capital Nanning is in the southwest of Guangxi. In the north, there is Liuzhou, an important town leading to Hunan and Guizhou; in the east, it is Wuzhou, the gateway to Guangdong; in the west, it is a Yongjiang River suddenly divided into two north and south rivers: the one leading to Baise in the northwest is called the Youjiang; the one leading to Longzhou in the southwest is called the Zuojiang. The triangle area between the left and right rivers is called the Zuojiang region.

Baise is about 450 miles away from Nanning. It is no longer the hinterland of Guangxi, and there is no big town around it. To the west is Yunnan.

Longzhou is about 300 miles away from Nanning, and is close to the fortress Zhennan Pass. Vietnam is crossing the pass.

On August 7, when the morning mist gradually dissipated, more than a dozen sailboats and civilian ships were loaded with military equipment and guards set off from the Nanning Customs Wharf, surging up the river and sailing towards Longzhou. According to the deployment of the Guangdong Army General Staff, Ye Ju was appointed as the director of the Xijiang First Order Communication Office, responsible for the command of the front line.

At Ye Ju's request, nearly 3,000 officers and soldiers from Yang Kunru and Yu Goukuan had advanced to the Longzhou area on the Zuojiang River in the Japanese-Qianqian; and Tangwei Camp, as the first combat sequence unit for the main offensive mission, will also march from land along the Youjiang River to the Baise area after the fleet set off. They are also responsible for the fleet's escort and alert tasks; Ye Ju and his guard troops will follow the ship.

Everything is progressing tense and orderly.

The wind in the river fills the sleeves, the sun in the autumn spreads its beauty, and the red land in autumn exudes the aroma of ripe rice and fruits.

The young Wang Liwen led their fleet to flow up the surging river water. The river water rolled up waves on the side of the ship, and the hot wind in August in the south blew the faces of every warrior. Their hearts were as bright as the sky and the sun; their passion was like the endless river water rolling and stirring.

Wang Liwen and his comrades sat on the deck of a sailboat, chatting and laughing, and their emotions were flowing. However, at this moment, it is conceivable what kind of rivers surging in the mind of the young officer and what kind of magnificent scenes were expressed in his heart.

He also had a lofty ideal of saving the country and saving the world. If he hadn't been discouraged by the ugliness and unscrupulous measures of the revolutionary party, Wang Liwen would not have been disappointed with the current situation. He still remembered his words with Zhong Yang that day, feeling the difficulties of the current situation and the ugliness of politics. He once asked Zhong Yang his own question: "From what you see, where is the way out for our country?"

At that time, Zhong Yang did not answer directly, but just smiled: "It is because I don't know that I need the people to make a choice."

After traveling around the world, Wang Liwen naturally had some knowledge of what the people in the country are in at present: "Although I do not recognize Mr. Zhongshan's methods, what he said is right. The people of our country are not ready for democracy. With the education level of most people, they don't know how to make a decision at all." In his opinion, Zhong Yang's words undoubtedly support democracy.

Seeing Wang Liwen's tone was sharp and almost forced to ask questions, Zhong Yang was not angry, and his face was calm: "I never talk about democracy. I just want to reverse the strong man politics for thousands of years and establish the rule of law again."

"Rule of Law?" Wang Liwen only heard that he promoted Western capitalist democracy or socialism, but he had never heard of the rule of law. However, this is also related to his profession. He has fewer political contacts, but instead he is devoted to pursuing military knowledge.

"Yes, it is the rule of law. People in the world said that Qin was destroyed by harsh political and violent laws, but I thought it was not the case. Xiaogong's mind was that there was no king who could compare with it. Qin occupied the world with the law. At that time, Emperor Shihuang, although he was very talented and had great strategies, he was abandoned because of the rule of law, and the result was that he died in the second lifetime." Zhong Yang had his own strategy in his heart. Of course, he would not completely believe in the records of historical books, but analyzed the original appearance of history through recorded materials. Therefore, as soon as he said these words, his eyes were bright, which made Wang Liwen feel a great pressure.

"I don't know what happened in the past, but what do you plan to do in the future?" Wang Liwen is a pure soldier. Although he is a little frivolous in his private life, he has his own principles and persistence. He just wants to find someone who is truly worthy of his surrender to display his talents, rather than following the crowd, just for that little bit of power.

"Our country and nation have no chance in this era. This is my answer. If you are still willing to find the answer with me, then come together." After saying all this, Zhong Yang sat calmly on the sofa waiting for Wang Liwen's reply.

"Since I don't have an answer, let's wait." He smiled and stretched out his right hand. This action had already shown his attitude.

Zhong Yang also smiled meaningfully: "Let's wait."

Standing on the bow of the boat and letting the summer river breeze blow away these thoughts in his mind, Wang Liwen still doesn't understand why he is willing to join the ancient Chinese Society. Perhaps it was Zhong Yang's calmness and confidence that infected him, or perhaps it was this unknown path that made him curious and allowed him to see hope that he could feel meaningless.

"I said Li Wen, what should we do after this battle is over?" Li Shaojie was in trouble. He was not stupid. He knew that as soon as the Battle of Longzhou was over, Tangwei Camp might be facing a situation of being split.

"Please call me the battalion commander in the army. The decision to the headquarters has not yet been made, but I think the possibility of splitting is not high. Instead, it is more likely to retain the establishment and even expand the enrollment in large quantities."

These days, Wang Liwen, who had carefully observed, had already discovered that the warlord system of this era was very unstable. The subordinate relationship between superiors and subordinates of the army was too serious, and the team was almost the private property of officers. Chen Jiongming blocked many people's financial resources due to strict discipline and ban on smoking and drug control, and his control over the army had been greatly weakened. Some officers had even secretly surrendered to Sun Yixian's subordinates.

Wang Liwen knew some of Mr. Sun's methods, and was definitely not comparable to Chen Jiongming. Wang Liwen saw some clues from middle and lower-level officers such as Gou Kuan. They seemed to be a little sneering at Chen Jiongming's worldly philosophy. Of course, this itself is related to the level of education they received and the social environment. Surviving in this chaotic world, more people have long lost hope and turned to only think about their own selfish desires, and do not care about the great principles and the dangers of the nation.

Even Wang Liwen himself believed in the propaganda of the revolutionary party and joined Sun Yixian's command, but he left in disheartened.

"You mean? The situation may worsen?" Li Shaojie was not a fool either. He could hear this obscure reminder from Wang Liwen's lines. After all, he also knew a lot about the overall state of the Guangdong army.

"I can't say this, but it's always right to be careful. You must be careful." After sighing, Wang Liwen also felt a hint of desolation. Being wary of the vagina from behind made him feel more tired than facing the enemy.

In late September 1921, Chen Jiongming concentrated his army to attack Longzhou. On the afternoon of the 30th, he finally conquered the county and removed the last stronghold of Lu Rongting, the Guangxi clan.

After Longzhou was lowered, it was on the surface that the Guizhou Province was settled. However, the defeated Gui army scattered into the deep mountains and dense forests, becoming bandits. Among them, the three Lius were the best, namely Liu Daqing, Liu Bingyu and Liu Bingchen, and nearly 10,000 people fled in Guishan, Yujiang. For this problem, Chen Jiongming had to stay in Guangxi for an additional month, and returned to Guangdong on November 3, and returned to Guangzhou four days later. When leaving Nanning, at the request of Guangxi Governor Ma Junwu, he left Ye Ju there. At the same time, more than 90 battalions of the Guangdong Army were left behind, and they assisted in the aftermath of the suppression and remedial work in Guangxi.

You know, at that time, Chen Jiongming had only a total of more than 150 battalions, which means he only brought more than 50 battalions back to Guangzhou. This also laid the root of disaster for the internal cracks in the future.

The battle of "Aiding Guangxi" took only more than four months from the day of the oath to the time when the army returned to Guangdong. However, it can be said that it was the most "destroying the people and the money" of the Guangdong army under Chen Jiongming and the result was a battle where all previous efforts were wasted.
