Chapter 352 The British First Armored Division

February 14, 2019.

This is a special day, and the entire Western countries are celebrating Valentine's Day.

Those who have lovers live with their lovers, and those who don’t have lovers, find someone to live with them. If you can’t find a lover, then live with your left hand. In short, you must be happy this day.

However, for many people, this day is destined to be a busy day.

For example, now, at the port of France, a force is slowly moving from the ship.

"Buzz, buzz." The sound of the engine was rumbling, and a small-looking tank was moving from the ship.

This tank has a small turret and a cylindrical shape. The weapons on it are so simple that there is only one machine gun. The balanced suspension device below looks even more special. A row of small load-bearing wheels looks like a weak chicken no matter how you look at it.

At this time, the driver was stepping on the accelerator, and the Ford 8-cylinder gasoline engine at the rear was rumbling. Unfortunately, the power of only 70 horsepower was not enough even if it was the accelerator.

This is the tank that Britain only equipped for the army last year, Matilda Type 1.

The total combat weight of this tank is 11 tons, with 2 crew members, a length of 4.85 meters, a width of 2.29 meters, and a height of 1.87 meters.

As you can see, the size and combat weight are very small, and it is an absolute light tank.

The only weapon is the 12.7mm machine gun, and its maximum speed is only 12.8 kilometers per hour. It can be said that a healthy snail can compete with it.

Compared with other weaknesses, this tank has unequal protection. The front armor thickness of the vehicle body is 60 mm, and the surroundings of the turret are 65 mm thick steel armor. Needless to mention the light tank, even the current main battle tank, the German Black Panther 3, is not as thick as 65 mm on the side.

This is entirely caused by different combat ideas. Although the British invented the tank, the British had their own set of how to use tanks.

The British military divided tanks into: infantry tanks, cruise tanks and light tanks.

As an infantry tank, the speed of driving should not be very high, as long as the infantry charging on foot can keep up; it does not require strong attack power, and the tank's weapons are enough as long as a machine gun. However, armor protection must be strong.

In other words, infantry tanks are typical mobile machine gun fire points.

This idea led to the current "Matilda" Type 1 tank.

While this tank was being made, the UK also realized that it might be lagging behind, so they immediately developed a Type 2 tank, using a 40mm tank gun, and the total weight increased to 27 tons, which was considered to be a medium tank.

Now, this "advanced" tank has produced a total of 139 vehicles, mainly equipped with the British First Armored Division.

The British armored troops were actually formed very late. It was not until 1934 that Britain formed the 1st Tank Brigade, and the famous Hobert became the brigade commander.

It was only in 37 that the plan was to form the First Armored Division, which was formed by Archibald Montgomery Massenbird, the then Chief of Staff, in the name of the "Mobile Division".

At the beginning, according to the idea, this division was under the 1st and 2nd Light Armored Brigade, the 1st Army Tank Brigade, as well as auxiliary troops such as artillery, engineers, and signal soldiers.

Although Hebat was arrogant, he was definitely not arrogant. He knew that the tanks equipped by his troops had long been outdated.

The German tanks have both the protection of infantry tanks and the maneuver power of cruise tanks. How did they do it? Hebat had no confidence in fighting against the Black Panther tank.
