Chapter 84 Fangs
Andy and his group of more than a dozen people entered the New York Observer newspaper, attracting the attention of all newspaper employees.
Attorney Nelson and financial manager David temporarily formed an acquisition team and led several subordinates to roughly estimate the assets of "Observer" based on all the information they could understand. Andy had already seen it on the way here.
Andy hopes to cut the mess quickly and win "Observer" today, so he took the acquisition team by his side. Once he negotiated with Arthur Carter, he immediately signed the contract and paid, completed the acquisition, and immediately let the acquisition team take over the "New York Observer".
Pete Kaplan looked at Andy and his group who were walking towards the newspaper owner's office with complicated eyes, and turned around and shouted: "Whatever you look at, go to work!"
Arthur Carter's secretary saw Auston Smith coming over with a group of people in suits and ties, stood up and greeted him with a smile.
"Good morning Anne, is Mr. Arthur Carter here?" Auston asked with a smile.
"Good morning, Mr. Smith and Mr. Carter have arrived. He said that when you come, you will go in directly. Are these?" Anne replied with a smile.
Auston did not introduce Andy and the others, but said that he had made an appointment with Mr. Arthur Carter.
Andy kept smiling with a sunny face. The female secretary Anne felt very familiar and didn't recognize her for a while. After all, Andy wore a pair of black-framed glasses today.
Andy turned around and asked the bodyguards and the acquisition team to wait in the rest area outside, then followed Auston and the female secretary Anne into Arthur Carter's office.
Arthur Carter's office decoration is very luxurious. Two red solid wood doors. On the left side, there is a seating area. A group of black and white geometric sofas with clear water horns surround a square table. There are rectangular cloak mirrors with golden borders hanging on both sides of the door.
Behind a large rectangular desk, Arthur Carter sat on the boss's chair, behind him was a gold-framed oil painting. The furnishings and decorations around him were also artistic. The most were sculptures, copper, iron, gypsum and clay sculptures. On the other side were four huge windows. The sun shone through the glass into the office, making some golden decorations shine.
Arthur Carter saw Auston walking in with a young man, put down the cigar in his hand, stood up from the boss's chair, walked around the desk, and greeted Auston.
Andy looked at the old man in front of him, with a meticulous combed hair, a white shirt, black trousers and a strap, and a bow tie around his neck. His figure was a little hunched because of his age, but he was full of energy and his eyes were bright. Under Auston's introduction, the old man smiled and stretched out his hand.
"Young man, I'm very happy to see you. You should know that you are so popular in the United States now. I like your novels very much. Are you interested in opening a column in my newspaper?"
Andy held the old man's hand with a confident and sunny smile on his face, "I'm honored to meet you, Mr. Carter. Thank you for enjoying my novel. As for the issue of opening a column, it takes some time. After all, the publishing house has been urging subsequent novel drafts, so... I can only apologize."
"Haha, this is nothing. As long as you are willing, you can come to our newspaper to open a column at any time. I am looking forward to working with you." Arthur Carter was not displeased, but smiled and patted Andy's hand, led Auston and Andy to the sofa in the lounge area, and signaled that they would sit down.
"Auston, you have a very good son!" Arthur Carter leaned against the sofa, with a faint smile on his face, and a calm and slow tone said to Auston.
"Thank you Mr. Carter for your compliment. He is still young and needs more tempering." Auston replied in a humble and unrestrained manner. After turning his head to look at Andy with a smile on his face, he then looked at Arthur Carter, "This time, it's Andy that's right for you to talk to Mr. Arthur Carter."
Arthur Carter looked at Andy with some curiosity. Andy put away the smile on his face and said sincerely: "Mr. Arthur Carter, I heard you want to sell the New York Observer? I wonder what the price is?"
A light flashed in Arthur Carter's eyes. He looked at the young man opposite him carefully, glanced at Auston who had nothing to do with me, and asked with a smile: "Why, Andy, do you want to acquire "Observer" too?"
"Why not?" Andy's lips curled up slightly, and a confident smile on his face. "This is an excellent newspaper with a history of 20 years. Although it has a low circulation, it has a very important position in the Manhattan area. I like its journalistic philosophy and cynical wit, even if it is just a regional XING newspaper."
After hearing Andy's words, Arthur Carter couldn't help but sigh in his heart, saying that he was young and promising. Unexpectedly, his newspaper attracted two young talents. Whether it was his figure, appearance, knowledge and cultivation, the two young people had amazing similarities.
"Haha, Auston, you have such an excellent son, which is really enviable! You are a famous writer. You speak without any slightest words, and you praise the advantages of the newspaper and say the flaws. I think you should have learned that Observer now loses $2 million every year. How can you ensure that you turn losses into profits? After all, this newspaper was founded by me. In the past 19 years, this newspaper has been my pride. Now I am old. My descendants do not value this newspaper that causes losses. Even if I want to sell it, I will find a suitable new owner for it. Can you bear this burden for young people?"
Looking at Arthur Carter and finally shook his head slightly, he didn't seem optimistic that Andy could support the future of "Observer".
Andy smiled confidently, "Mr. Carter, let's not talk about the profitability of the newspaper. I just want to tell you that among those who are interested in acquiring newspapers, perhaps I am the only one of your best choice. If it is really for the sake of this newspaper that has been published for 20 years."
Arthur Carter lost his smile for the first time, staring at Andy with a deep look, and said lightly: "Young man, tell me your reasons."
Andy smiled confidently and said: "As far as I understand, plus me, and Robert De Niro's Tribeca Group and Judd KSN are interested in buying "Observer". I don't know what price they all want to pay to acquire this newspaper, but I believe they are not the best buyers."
Andy stretched out a finger and continued, "Let's talk about Robert first. Although he is very famous, he is old and how much enterprising can he have? He wants to buy this newspaper, perhaps he just likes its fame and doesn't care much about the value of this newspaper. If he continues to lose money for years, then the future of "Observer" will be put on the shelves and sold out by him."
He stretched out his second finger and looked more confident in the smile on his face. "Judd KSN, he is a businessman. Maybe he will tell you without hesitation that he acquired it to make money, right? Maybe he can still enjoy it, or maybe he can still be respected after doing it well. He will use business instead of news concepts, and in the end, he will make "Observer" an entertainment tabloid for profit."
