17. Don't Leave Regrets (Part 2)(1/2)
In Steve Rogers' slightly weird spiritual world, Merlin was sitting next to Steve's spiritual body, drinking casually the strange-smelling wine.
From the composition of this spiritual world, Merlin could tell that Agent Dugan's worst guess was correct.
It’s not that Steve Rogers cannot wake up, it’s not that he is unwilling to wake up.
He would rather stay in his already weak spiritual vision, and watch the most regrettable things in his life be completed again and again, like a beautiful dream.
Repeat over and over again to obtain peace of mind.
Merlin could not determine how long the dance in the spiritual world lasted, but he could probably guess that from the moment Steve was frozen, until now, this dance may not have stopped.
This is why Steve's spirit is so weak
In the past 68 years, he has hardly had a good rest.
No matter how powerful a person is, he will become extremely weak with such persistence. To be honest, Steve Rogers' soul has not collapsed yet, which is already a miracle.
Merlin suspected that this was another stubborn idea in Steve's soul that supported him to persevere.
He wants to survive!
He wants to see his lover again
Even if the world has changed, even if things have changed.
This guy
It's really a seed of infatuation.
"You didn't miss that dance, Steve, it's just you don't know it yourself."
Merlin smiled and he said softly:
"You may make up for the past regrets in the future, but I can't guarantee it either."
"What you said is true?"
Steve finally reacted to Merlin's existence at this moment. He turned his head and looked at Merlin. A trace of flame jumped in his eyes. He said:
"You didn't lie to me?"
"What are the benefits of lying to you?"
Merlin shrugged, he stood up and said to Steve:
"Wake up quickly, many people are waiting for you."
"wait for me?"
Steve said in confusion:
"What are they waiting for me? I don't know how long I have been frozen, but now is definitely not the war era. The war must have been over, we have won, we have saved the world, what do a soldier do in a peaceful world?"
"Yes, you saved it."
Merlin said with some regret:
"It's a pity that we made it a mess again. To be honest, this era may need you more than the war period. Do you still remember Hydra? Captain."
"Of course, how could I forget?"
Steve gritted his teeth and said:
"It was they who started the war. Hitler was one of them, the craziest one, but their leader, Red Skull, has disappeared. I saw with my own eyes that he was sent among the stars by the Rubik's Cube, and he would never come back."
Steve looked at Merlin and said:
"Did you say that it's been so long that you haven't completely eliminated the Hydra who has lost the leader? Are my juniors so poor in their actions?"
Faced with Steve's questioning, Merlin shrugged and said softly:
"Cut off one head and grow two in place."
"Dynas did suffer a fatal blow because of the disappearance of the Red Skull, but they did not admit defeat, nor did they fail because of this, and they became more difficult and more secretive. After a long period of dormant, some of our actions lurked in the shadow behind us."
Merlin drank the wine from the glass in one sip, and he said to Steve who listened carefully to him:
"Fry and I, a conspiracy-filled, and your comrade-in-arms, Agent Dugan, and some of the noble character who secretly supported us, noticed the threat. We launched a liquidation operation and successfully killed some of the modern Hydras. But that was not enough."
"Captain, when it comes to our understanding of Hydra, we are not as good as you."
Merlin said:
"We need your help, and today's world is different from the world you remember."
"A variety of supernatural creatures, various supernatural events. A few years ago, there were a group of bastards from the South Galaxy in a starship trying to destroy us. Those aliens who were hiding in the dark were also ready to move. Some of the guys who claimed to be superheroes but only wanted to get praise and sought after, and were not mature at all were also making trouble."
"We need you, captain, we need your tactical talent, we need you to tie an official superhuman organization."
He said:
"We also need you to be a banner in the hearts of the people again, telling the people that although times have changed, those guardians have never left. No one is more suitable than you."
"But I see doubt in your eyes, Mr. Merlin."
Steve was not confused by this hat. He looked at Merlin rationally and said:
"You are also questioning what you said. You don't trust me. You don't think I can do what you said. You are here just because you got the order, right?"
"Oh, living too clearly is not a good thing, Mr. Captain."
Meilin smiled reservedly, he raised the empty cup in his hand to the captain, and he said:
"Besides, praise doesn't cost money."
"Okay, I'll tell the truth."
Under Steve's gaze, Merlin whispered:
"I don't believe that a person who has been frozen for decades can do what I said, but some people believe it, and many people believe it, so I think you should give them a chance and yourself a chance."
"Your fate is not over yet. Steve, at least in my eyes, your future is much more exciting than your past."
He put down his glass and said to Steve:
"Okay, we've talked too much about these big and empty things. Let's talk about some more specific things, Captain. I'm here to find you, and there's actually another thing to bother you."
He said:
"I know that in an operation in 1942, you came across Antarctica with Sergeant Bucky Barnes from the Roaring Commando to carry out a mission, but the records of that mission were vague. Just yesterday, we discovered a castle left by Naui in Antarctica. I want to ask you about this matter what happened in the operation that year?"
“That was a failed action.”
The captain did not hesitate, he said frankly:
"We received warnings from allies in the deep sea. We followed the clues and found that Naui was carrying out a rather dangerous plan. They summoned a terrifying weapon. We went to Antarctica to try to destroy that weapon, but we saw nothing of a crazy giant attacking us, but also disrupted Naui's searching work there."
"Actually, when we evacuated, I don't know what Naui made, but there is no doubt that the Red Skull could come forward in person is definitely not a simple thing. Do you say that Naui built a castle in that place? Then it seems that our destruction operation that year still failed."
Steve said with some regret:
"Those cunning guys have always been like this, using various ways to achieve their goals. But when you find that castle, it means that the dangerous thing has fallen into your hands?"
"No, no."
Merlin said with regret:
"We found nothing there, but I learned a name from those guardians, the Book of Skeletons. Have you heard of this?"
"Not only heard of it."
The captain shook his head:
"I have also seen it with my own eyes that the evil thing was held in Hitler more than once, and it is said that there is a lot of evil knowledge recorded therein."
"Where is that thing put?"
Merlin asked:
"Can you provide me some clues?"
"I don't know, agent."
The captain sighed and said:
"I've been frozen in 45 years. Although the Red Skull disappeared with me, I don't know whether he transferred the book before leaving. I can only tell you that I know that Red Skull has several secret bases in North Africa and Southern Europe. Maybe you can go there to find it."
"No."
Merlin shook his head and said to Steve:
"Maybe you can take it as your first challenge and mission after you wake up."
He said:
"You can't stay here all the time. You and I know that it's time to wake up."
"Oh, by the way, don't tell anyone else what I said, okay? I don't want to cause trouble for myself anymore."
He watched the wine glass in front of him dissipate into a cloud of smoke, and said to Steve:
"Okay, I've been there long enough, Steve, let's see you in reality, don't let me wait for a long time."
"Wait, Merlin."
To be continued...
