21. Black Claws (Part 1)(2/2)
Merlin stood in front of the glass cage and said:
"How are you doing lately? Cowboy."
"Yeah, it's pretty good."
The guy didn't even open his eyes, just put his hands on his body, and said in a relaxed tone:
"Every day, there are beauties who deliver meals, and the food is a combination of meat and vegetables. I can eat an apple every day. There is also soothing music at night. No one comes to disturb me. I don't have to work hard. The bed is very comfortable and can bask in the sun. I have turned on the heating 24 hours a day. God, if I had known this place was so great, I might have planned to rob you earlier."
The cowboy stopped, he whispered:
“There is no freedom here, it is perfect as heaven.”
"So which one would you choose between freedom and heaven?"
Merlin asked.
The cowboy lying on the bed heard the extra meaning of Merlin's words. He suddenly sat up, sat beside the bed, looked at Merlin, and said:
"Do you still have to choose? Of course it's freedom!"
He stared at Merlin and said:
"What are there work for me? Sir. The most important thing is, can this work be reduced?"
"It depends on your sincerity."
Merlin said ambiguously:
"You should know that the reason I came to you rather than others is because I know that in Black Claw, only you have a little conscience. You have the least blood debt in your hands, and you only have a 20-year prison term. You are the kind of person who can still be redeemed."
Merlin stopped, and he glanced at McCree, who was sitting by the bed, listening carefully to what he said.
"Talk it straight, Mr. McCree, I hope you join my department as a field agent. I need someone like you who is capable and has a bottom line. Of course, you will receive additional monitoring, but I think if I give you a chance to reform, you shouldn't just throw it away so easily."
Merlin bounced his fingers, and he looked at the cowboy in front of him, and he said:
"So, what about your reply?"
"It's the same for anyone to work for."
McCree shrugged, he said:
"I don't have any disgust or discrimination against the official, but it's too much to be an official lackey in exchange for freedom. I mean, if you can agree to another request from me."
"Stop! Cowboy."
Merlin said expressionlessly:
"Are you negotiating terms? Do you think you are qualified to negotiate terms with me?"
"A big man like you who has great power and official resources support, comes to me, a down-and-out cowboy who is notorious and famous. This proves that you have some tricky things that need my help."
McCree said softly:
"Look, sir, I was caught with bad luck, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid."
"When you have the advantage, try to plunder the benefits for yourself as much as possible. This is the lifestyle of cowboys. If my tone makes you feel angry, then please forgive me for being vulgar. But I grew up in the West, and my blood flows in my blood vessels. My ancestors are the famous cowboy Arthur. I mean, I may not be able to change this bad habit."
"Then you'd better change it."
Merlin said:
"I don't really like my subordinates' eloquence. I prefer those silent, low-key people who can do things well. Tell me, what do you want?"
"Ash!"
McCree said bluntly:
"Give her freedom, I will sell my life to you."
"Oh, it seems that the Black Claws are rich in love saints."
Merlin said with a strange tone, "Praise" and said to McCree:
"But I think you'd better have something to do with yourself. The little girl Ash is treated much better than you. The day after she was arrested, someone took a huge sum of money to try to bail her. Of course, I refused. She is a dangerous person. She is different from you. She can't control her inner crime. I can't release a dangerous person like this."
Merlin said:
"But I heard that she is the heir of the famous Ash family in New York. How could the little princess born with a golden key in her hand become the leader of the Death Gang and how did she embark on this path of crime? And, what is the relationship between you two? And about Black Claw, how was this mercenary group established? What was its purpose? I was really curious."
"Is it also a part of the task to inquire about other people's private lives?"
McCree asked:
“Can I refuse to answer this question?”
"Of course, you can refuse."
Merlin said gently:
"As long as you don't want freedom."
