14. Merlin's assessment report [46/100](1/2)

"Ah, I finally returned to the world."

In the airport waiting room in Bangkok, Merlin drank all the coke in his hand in one breath. He moved his shoulders and moaned comfortably.

He said to Agent Hill beside him:

"Doris, get another cup for me."

Agent Hill did not refuse, but obediently took the cup from Merlin's hand. After a moment, another iced drink was delivered to Merlin.

"What’s wrong with you?"

Merlin took the Coke and he noticed the expression on Agent Hill's face, he asked:

"Are you uncomfortable? Or unhappy? The mission is over, and we have returned to the prosperous place from the isolated place. Shouldn't we be happy?"

"No, no, sir."

Hill sat beside Merlin, she brushed her short hair and said in a little disappointed manner:

"I just feel that I didn't help with this mission at all. Chief Fury sent me to assist you, but you did all the work alone. Maybe, I'm really not a qualified agent."

"Um?"

Merlin, wearing a baseball cap, took a sip of the cold coldness. He leaned on the chair and looked at the rising and falling planes outside the window of the waiting room in front of him. He whispered:

"I'm not very good at comforting others, Doris Hill."

"But I know one thing. When faced with any work, no matter how well you prepare in advance, there will always be problems in one way or another when you first actually operate, and there will always be mistakes. Some mistakes are nothing, but some mistakes are fatal."

"What's more, what you're doing now is one of the most difficult jobs in the world."

Merlin said:

"Your performance this time is really unsatisfactory. I hoped you could get more news from Vivian, but you are obviously not as smart as that scheming girl. But that's nothing."

"Fry asked me to bring you with me, probably to let you experience for yourself what the agent's daily life looks like. I have also studied in the Agent Academy. I know what the atmosphere is like on your side. The restlessness of young people, the childish expectations for the future, and the stupid self-thinking that they will become heroes. I know very clearly."

“But what about it actually?”

Merlin looked at Hill beside him and said:

"In fact, the agent's life is really wonderful. You also see Raton, the strange scenery on Skull Island, those creatures, etc. But there are not so many crises in this world that we need to change every minute, and there are not so many crazy bad guys who think about destroying the world all day long."

"Collect information, organize information, fly around the world, deal with all kinds of people, disguise, deceive, and coerce when necessary. This is our daily work, a bit boring, but occasionally some surprises."

Merlin finished drinking the coke in his hand, and he stood up, patted Hill on the shoulder, and said to the girl:

"Change your mood, think about the gains and losses of the past few days, and then prepare to start working alone. Fury has high expectations for you. Perhaps among the newcomers in this class, you are the one he values the most."

"Don't let him down."

After saying that, Meilin threw it away without even looking at it, and the empty cup fell into the trash can next to it accurately.

He picked up his suitcase, pulled his hat down, and said to Hill:

"Let's go, it's time to board the plane."

"Fry is still waiting for us."

"By the way, tomorrow afternoon, there will be an assessment report in Washington. Those high-powered old men and women from the World Security Council are eager to know the inside story of the Imperial Organization and the results of the security assessment. I am not good at presiding on these things, so you are responsible for this report."

"Is it okay? Agent Maria Hill."

"No problem! Sir!"

Hill's body was straight, she said in a capable and serious voice:

"I won't let you down again this time!"

That night, New York, Hell's Kitchen.

A taxi parked at the door of Merlin's house. Merlin, wearing a gray casual suit, walked out of the car with a handbag. He took out his wallet, handed a piece of money to the driver, and said:

"Don't let the music be so noisy next time?"

Along the way, the Indian driver kept talking and playing songs from their place, which made Merlin's head hurt. He wanted to give this guy a try from behind.

But because the guy was driving steadily, he finally held back.

"Okay, sir."

The young Indian driver gestured to Merlin and handed a business card to Merlin, and he said in a voice with an accent:

"Next time if you still need taxi service, sir, you can make this call and I will pick you up as quickly as possible."

"Oh? Do taxi drivers have this kind of business now?"

Meilin exchanged a few greetings with the driver, and then watched him leave the street. Meilin looked down at the business card, and in the dark he saw the name of the boy.

"Dupengde? A weird name."

Merlin shook his head. He wanted to throw the business card into the trash can, but after thinking about it, he put it back in his pocket.

Merlin took out the keys and looked at the house that had been away from in front of him for a long time and the messy unsupervised garden at the door, and he sighed a little.

But the next moment, Merlin felt that in the room where the lights were turned off, a figure was moving in the darkness.

This made him stop opening the door, and in the dark, his figure suddenly disappeared.

"Bang"

In the dark room, something cold suddenly hit Nick Fury's neck, causing him to raise his hand subconsciously.

Fury guessed who was behind him, and he whispered:

"You're back a little late. I've been waiting for you here for more than 30 minutes."

"I went to my cousin's house, and the invasion of the Kerry bastards some time ago scared her."

Merlin turned on the light and threw the can of beer in his hand to Fury. He also twisted a can of it himself. He leaned against the refrigerator and looked at Fury who was cutting sausages. He said:

"Are you planning to have a midnight snack for yourself at my house? Why don't you go home and eat?"

"No one at my house."

Fury took a bite while chewing the food while holding the cut sausage into the hot bread, and turned around and looked at Merlin, he said:

"My wife went on a trip, and after work I had nowhere to go."

"All right."

Merlin glanced at the black eye mask on Fury's left eye, sat back on the chair, took out several documents from the suitcase at his feet, and placed them on the table, he said:

"Although I think you must have something to ask me for trouble, I don't have any evidence to look at this first."

Merlin pointed to the documents and said:

"I think it is necessary to let you see all the inside information I have collected about the Imperial Organization before giving it to those big names."

Fury did not refuse, he quickly finished the bread, wiped his hands, and sat on the chair.

He looked through the shocking photos and documents, and Merlin could feel that Fury's mood and attention were also changing. Obviously, these things also brought him a lot of shock.

Just as the two men were talking about things at night, there was a sudden sound of slapping on the window behind Meilin. Meilin turned around and saw an orange cat with a silver collar lying on the window, staring at him with yellow eyes, and its tail was still slapping on the closed window.

Meilin waved her hand, and the closed window was pushed away by invisible magic. The orange cat jumped into the room with a keen tail, then ran quickly to Meilin's feet, rubbed his head against his legs, looking respectful and welcoming.

Merlin held Gugu in his arms, took out a small, unique bone he picked up from Skull Island from his pocket and placed it next to Gugu's mouth.

The magical creature disguised as an orange cat sniffed the bone, then stretched out its claws and grabbed the bone tightly, as if it had found a new toy.

More than ten minutes later, Fury finished reading the first document. He looked up and saw the orange cat playing with bones in Merlin's arms. Fury seemed to have seen some monster.

"Mazefak!"

He took a step back suddenly, then subconsciously covered his left eye and screamed at Merlin:

"Hi! Keep that thing away from me!"

"ah?"

Merlin looked up at Fury, he placed Gugu on the table, then held Gugu's claws and shook them around in the air, like playing a game with a cat. He said to Fury with a weird smile:

"Why? Look how cute it is. Right? Xiao Gugu, look at how cute you are and how well-behaved you are."

After getting a new toy, the orange cat, who was in a good mood, meowed twice, as if echoing Merlin's statement. But Fury was one of the few people who knew Gugu's true identity. He was alert and looked at the kitten with a hint of fear, and he said:

"Seriously! Don't joke, Merlin! That thing is dangerous. My eyes are evidence. Let it go quickly! I want to talk to you about something!"

"All right."

Merlin put Gugu back to the ground, he patted Gugu's head and said to the kitten:

"I'm a little bit good lately. I'll buy you cat food in a few days. Your favorite food is the kind you eat now and go back to your room to sleep."

Gugu meowed, then bit his bone toy, as if he could understand Merlin's words, it rushed up the stairs quickly. On the balcony on the second floor, Little Eric made a comfortable cat nest for Gugu.

Seeing Gugu leave, Fury, who was still in shock, sat back on the chair.

He looked at Merlin and said:

"You guy, you can actually get along with that creature."
