31. Duel

With only the last ten days left before the three-month period, James looked aged countless times. From the appearance of the young man when he first met, he became gray in hair. This was the result of excessive mental energy consumption. James had previously relied on his magic to maintain his youthful appearance, but at this moment he no longer felt like this.

He sat on the ground and waited for Adam to complete the last unemploymental meditation, full of despair. After so many years of research and so many years of hard work, it was about to end. After all, he was just a person without talent. Promoting to a mage with simple mental power was indeed just a luxury. What's more tragic is that he didn't even increase his total mental power.

"You're going to die, you'll die silently." The experimental report in his hand was tightly held by him, and then was stirred into pieces by the unintentional magic. James thought in despair.

Adam's mental power collapsed again, scattering the fragments on the ground. He shook his head at James and said, "It's still not possible. It's impossible to complete self-consistent. The wizard armor built by this meditation method cannot carry magic."

James looked at him with a dull eyes and said, "Forget it, you don't have to come from tomorrow. The experiment on the stability of the rune structure and the construction of the complete rune group has failed. The laboratory will be disbanded in ten days."

James's voice was lighter than the previous word, and the decadence in his words made Adam frown. He opened his mouth to speak, but before he could speak, James said again: "In ten days, if you want, you can come and receive your monthly reward. If you don't want to, I will directly enter your balance. Also, I'm probably leaving."

Adam temporarily put what he wanted to say and asked, "Go? Where to go?"

James smiled bitterly: "Leave the mage continent, find an island, and leave your descendants. Then... that's it," James turned off all the optical projectors in the laboratory, destroyed all the experimental reports, and whispered in the dark: "Adam, don't study meditation methods in the future. You are different from me, so there is no need to waste your talent here. I'm really jealous of you, what does it feel like to be a formal mage?"

Adam opened his mouth again, and the darkness could not resist the apprentices' sight. James interrupted him directly: "No need to comfort me, at least compared to ordinary people who are mediocre, I have experienced the charm of magic, which is enough. You go first, I want to be alone."

Adam walked out of the laboratory helplessly. In fact, he wanted to tell James that after countless empirical evidence over the past two months, he was confident that he could summarize a set of self-consistent meditation ideas, but it would take a few days to sort it out, but James did not give him a chance to speak. But it was nothing. Ten days were enough, just lent it out earlier and then lend it to James.

......

About three months have passed, and the atmosphere between the newly promoted apprentices is different from the beginning. There are struggles in places where there are people, and even more so among these apprentices who claim to be the pride of heaven. In just three months, many apprentices have joined forces to establish organizations with various ideas.

Most people have run out of energy stones, and everyone is looking at the task hall when learning, and then the problem arises - the tasks suitable for them, such as rookies, are very limited, and most of them are cleaning, recording, service, etc. There are not many such tasks, at least they cannot meet the needs of nearly 100 people.

Up to now, everyone has mastered more than one magic. With the accompliance of the academy, conflicts are common, and formal mages regard them as air. This accompliance and laissez-faire makes the apprentices with greater power and higher talents become arrogant.

The five people in the deserted island are still united, and they have no way to be disunited because no other team is willing to accept them. Although their strength is pretty good, William has successfully mastered three fire magics, and Ophelia has developed smoothly on the path of body refining mages, but because the number of people is too small, she is still on the side that is being bullied.

At this moment, a conflict broke out in the task hall. The cause was a short-term work of sorting metal for senior apprentice of alchemy. This work was paid for two units of energy stones, which was considered very generous. Randy wanted to take on this task, but it was also discovered by a local apprentice at the same time. What's more unfortunate is that this person was the one who initially expressed disdain for the apprentice of the desert island. Later, everyone knew his name, Sean, the descendant of the two apprentices of the mage.

"What? The country people also want to earn energy stones? Haha, do you recognize metals clearly?" Sean stepped out and blocked Randy's way forward and said arrogantly, as if he thought what he said was interesting. The companions behind Sean laughed for a moment.

"Get out of the way, Sean, do you want to suffer a little?" Randy's face turned gloomy. I don't know why Sean kept biting him like a mad dog. He had been similar insults many times.

Sean turned around and exaggeratedly shouted, "Oh! Oh my God, listen to what he is saying, he wants to teach me a lesson," then turned to Randy and said, "Just you? Countryman? Oh, yes, yes, I forgot that you are still a genius with soul tendencies, what is it? Curse and be friendly? Hahaha! Do you want to curse me and try it? I suspect you can't hurt Mr. Sean a hair!"

Randy clenched her fists, and the blue veins were raised. Three months was enough for the apprentices to collect information. All apprentices who showed their soul tendencies during the qualification test were remembered by everyone. Only Randy was an exception, because curse affinity was too unpopular and useless. This made him a laughing stock and the reverse scale in his heart.

"Damn it, you bastard!" Randy lost her mind and rushed towards Sean with red eyes. Quentin, who was almost inseparable from him, hurriedly grabbed him. Fighting here is not possible, and senior apprentices will not allow it.

Sean stood there and looked at them mockingly, and squeezed them away directly under the crowd of his companions behind him, taking on the task.

The senior apprentices watched this scene lazily, which was too ordinary to arouse their interest. They also came from this stage. After experiencing the first cruelty, the rookies would know how naive and stupid the conflict is now.

Randy stood in place like a wild beast, gasping, and said in a low voice that was almost roaring: "Battleman, do you dare to duel with me?"

The mission hall is quiet. Although conflicts occur from time to time, it has remained verbally so far. No one has been in the real duel. After seeing the power of magic, they knew that the apprentice duel could not be carried out in the way you punch me and I. A slight accident means death.

Sean, who walked to the door, turned around and looked at Randy in disbelief and said, "What did you say?"

Randy broke free from Quentin and walked step by step to Shawn, looking at him almost like a cockfighting face: "I said, duel, bastard."

Sean couldn't help but take a step back, and a panic surged in his heart, but the next second he was angry at the reaction just now and said fiercely: "Okay, then let's fight. You trash, since you want to die, Mr. Sean will fulfill you!"

......

The first duel between the new apprentice became the most popular topic among rookies in a few days. Adam knew nothing about it. He resumed his previous life in the dormitory and library. The news was learned during a chat with Elliot. When he met Adam again a few months later, he regretted James's experience and Adam wasted time.

"Speaking of this, you are also from a desert island, right?" Elliot asked inadvertently.

"Hmm." The book Adam was reading was called "A Discussion on Rune Stability". The explanation of runes in the book was somewhat helpful for him to construct his meditation.

After Adam's recognition, Elliot came over and said, "I heard that just today, the apprentice of the desert island with cursed affinity is about to duel with people. Don't you want to go and see?" Although cursed affinity is useless, it is also a conspicuous label. Elliot has no impression of Sean.

"Oh." Adam responded perfunctorily and continued to flip the book.

Elliot curled his lips and approached a little closer: "Don't he come from the same place as you? Don't you want to go and have a look?"

Adam turned the book to the last page and closed it, put it back on the bookshelf properly and said, "I don't want to."

"Why? Haven't you seen the first duel for the rookies? Tsk tsk, I really miss it. We came here like this." Elliot went into memory mode very out of line.

"Bored, I just got into the shallowest power, so I focused on being brave and fierce. Besides, what's so good about their duel? Are the two of them standing opposite each other and trying hard to build a rune group?" Adam said, turning around and leaving.

"Uh..." Elliot imagined such a scene and felt that it was not interesting. However, he was too bored. With the few apprentices, it was rare that there were people like Adam who was willing to chat with him. "Let's go and see, aren't you going back to the dormitory? It's just the way, it won't waste a lot of time."

Adam was helplessly held back by Elliot. Fortunately, the other threads continued to calculate day and night. The daily threads did not delay the progress of the task, so there was no need to smear Elliot's interest, so the two walked out of the library and walked towards the duel site.

Along the way, Elliot boasted about his record as a rookie, and kept repeating the glorious history of using poison to poison his opponents, and then reached the duel location.

Along the way, people kept greeting Elliot and looked at Adam beside him with amazement. I wonder how this ‘abandoned apprentice’ got together with the pharmacy tutor.
