Chapter Two Marriage

Li Taiyuan estimated the time in his mind, and at about eleven o'clock in the night, a large village appeared in the depths of the jungle that blocked the sky and the sun.

There is a pond, with rows of old buildings built close to each other on both sides, somewhat similar to podium buildings. They are all white walls and black tiles, giving it a Jiangnan water town charm.

Bright red lanterns were hung at the entrance of the village and on both sides of the road, and the reflection on the pond surface turned red, making it eerily quiet.

The bearers walked along the long road paved with green tiles and stone steps, and soon stopped.

An ancient building with a plaque of "White Mansion" is facing the pond. The black and white horse-head walls follow the slope of the roof. The top of the wall has three rows of eaves bricks, and is covered with small green tiles of varying heights.

It is well-proportioned. The high white walls and the vermilion door look extraordinary.

Contrary to the rumors, this Shengquan Village is not some backwater, it is clearly a paradise.

The sedan landed steadily, and the gongs hanging at the four corners were ringing without any wind. The sudden movement made Li Taiyuan's heart skip a beat.

He opened the curtain and looked outside. The eight bearers knelt down with a "plop" and prostrated on the ground with their heads hanging down.

With a muffled creaking sound, the vermilion door of the Bai family slowly opened, and two rows of figures holding lanterns walked out from both sides.

These people were all wearing loose blue gowns, with low eyebrows and half-bent bodies, and lined up on both sides of the house door.

If he hadn't been so clear-headed now, Li Taiyuan would have even had the illusion that he had traveled back to ancient times.

But it comes to mind. The Bai family moved here during the Qing Dynasty. They have not been able to escape from the outside world for hundreds of years, and the government did not interfere much. As a result, those ancient customs have been preserved and continue to this day.

The sound of gongs and drums sounded, echoing over the entire pond.

"Invite the groom into the house!"

A lame old woman in black robe sang congratulations in a high-pitched voice and came to the sedan.

A pair of calloused hands with missing thumbs lifted up the sedan curtain. The moment he saw these hands, Li Taiyuan remembered the scene he had dreamed about on the bus.

It was her, the one who tortured herself.

Without warning, a strange old face poked in from behind the curtain. There was a scar on the right side of the old woman's face that extended from her forehead to her chin, and the right eye where the scar passed was already blind and covered with a mask.

A terrifying layer of white mist.

She looked at Li Taiyuan with her intact left eye. Seeing that he was not afraid or making trouble, she stared at her calmly, and nodded with satisfaction.

She took out a key from her waist, and while untying the chains at Li Taiyuan's feet, she said with a smile: "Uncle Su is handsome, and he is a good match for the young lady. Thank you for your hard work, I am the mother in charge of the Bai family, Yue

Chanyi, just call me Aunt Yue. Let’s go to the hospital first.”

Now that he has arrived at the house, the Bai family naturally does not have to worry about him escaping.

The old woman unlocked Li Taiyuan's shackles, lowered the curtain, and waved behind her.

Immediately afterwards, two children of seven or eight years old, a boy and a girl, walked out from the crowd of servants.

Both of them wore pigtails, a pair of red pieces of paper on their faces, and bibs, looking particularly cute and festive.

But Li Taiyuan noticed that although the eyes of the two children were big and black, they were dull, there was no smile on their faces, their pale little faces were lifeless, and every move they made looked like puppets being manipulated on strings.

The two of them each held a basket in their hands and walked straight to both sides of the sedan. The girl was responsible for scattering flower petals, and the boy was responsible for throwing red paper.

The musician in charge followed closely behind, playing the music with a low suona. Although this was supposed to be a piece of festive and cheerful music, it always sounded lifeless, more like something played at a family funeral.

funeral music.

Amidst the sound of gongs and drums, the eight bearers on the ground suddenly stood up and carried the sedan into the Bai Mansion.

I have to admit that Su Youguang and the others did not lie. The Bai family is indeed a wealthy family.

The Baifu is large in scale. It has gray tiles, white walls and a tall gatehouse common to Huizhou architecture. It has stone door frames and lintels. Even the gatehouse is decorated with water-polished blue bricks, carved inlays and inlays.

The courtyard is shaded by green trees and echoes the mountains. There is a patio in the middle, and the whole is connected by a corridor. Going south, you will see a large courtyard inside the Yimen, with five main rooms above it, and the wing rooms on both sides with deer-topped ears, which are drilled into the mountain. It extends in all directions and is majestic.

However, no matter how beautiful the scenery in the courtyard is and the majestic buildings, it still gives people a gloomy and palpitating feeling, as if this place is not like the human world, but a ghost house.

Different from the ordinary high-rise courtyards that often use mythical animals, flowers and birds, everywhere you look, the patterns on the pillars, reliefs and stone statues of the White Mansion are all in the shape of terrifying snakes.

The servants took tiny steps and followed the sedan around, making no sound at all.

Soon, the sedan stopped in a wide lobby.

"Uncle Su, please get off the sedan. It's time to go to the church to get married."

Hearing the hoarse and gravelly sound of Yue Chanyi outside the sedan, Li Taiyuan didn't hesitate, opened the curtain and walked out.

He turned his head and glanced beside him. With the glow of the red lanterns around him, Li Taiyuan finally saw clearly the faces of the bearers hidden under their wedding robes.

Those faces were extremely ferocious, not to mention covered with scars. There were only empty black holes for the eyes, and the lips were pierced by wires and sewn together finely.

No wonder the young man who was seeing off the bride screamed uncontrollably. Any normal person would be frightened by the stumbling behavior of these bearers...

But then again, how did they lift themselves up the mountain if they couldn't see?

Li Taiyuan stared at the bearer's face, still thinking wildly in his mind. Yue Chanyi couldn't help coughing when she saw that he was hesitant to move forward.

As if they had received some kind of order, the bearers froze and retreated continuously, all the way to the outside of the courtyard, and their figures soon disappeared from Li Taiyuan's sight.

"Uncle, please come inside. The patriarch and the young lady have been waiting for a long time."

Yue Chanyi made a gesture of invitation and said to Li Taiyuan respectfully.

On the way here, the other party briefly explained the situation of Shengquan Village and the Bai family to Li Taiyuan: the current patriarch of Shengquan Village and the head of the Bai family is named Bai Rong, the eldest lady of the Bai family, and the aunt of Li Taiyuan's fiancée.

Bai Ruoyan also has a younger sister named Mu Ya, who is the second young lady of the Bai family. The second young lady has been frail and sick since she was a child. She is still young and not yet ready for marriage.

The Bai family has always respected women. As long as Bai Ruoyan gives birth to a daughter in the future, her child will inherit the position of the next head of the family.

Li Taiyuan's main task is to spread the news and strive to allow Bai Ruoyan to give birth to a daughter as soon as possible.

"What if the baby is a son?" Li Taiyuan asked a lot.

Yue Chanyi glanced at him coldly, and said expressionlessly: "The male will be sent away from the Bai Mansion and raised by other families on his behalf."

Li Taiyuan responded thoughtfully, and couldn't help but ask: "What if I don't live up to expectations and Miss Bai gives birth to all boys?"

"Uncle, don't say such unlucky words on your wedding day."

Yue Chanyi interrupted him abruptly, "You still pray that you can add more daughters to the Bai family. If you can't give birth to a daughter, you are fully responsible. A worthless person is not worthy of staying in the house."

Li Taiyuan touched the tip of his nose and thought that although the clan system of marriages in the White House followed the old ideas, it was quite understandable that it was up to the man to have children.

The Bai Mansion is already big, and along the way, Yue Chanyi was chatting tirelessly about the topic of reproduction, which made Li Taiyuan's head buzz.
