9, Chapter 9(2/2)

I didn't see many young people along the way, but mostly the old, weak, women and children. It's no wonder that conscription has been frequent in recent years. It's not that there are no places that can't be recruited. It's normal to be afraid of officers and soldiers coming to arrest people.

Not long after, an old man with a hunchback came out and smiled all over his face when he saw Pei Liang and his party——

"What are these military lords doing?"

Ying Siji said: "No need to be nervous, I want to ask you to buy some meat and vegetable seasonings."

In order to prevent the other party from misunderstanding that the soldiers were robbing him, he shook the jingling money bag and said: "Don't worry, give me the money."

A relieved smile appeared on the old man's face, and he wondered again: "The year is not good, and every household does not have much food storage, but I can get some sweet potatoes, pickles, and vegetables."

"There is a bandit den nearby. They are always coming down the mountain to rob, and there are no chickens, ducks, or pigs left in every household."

For a time, Ying Siji and the others couldn't bear to buy other people's food rations.

Pei Liang said, "If you don't want to interfere, then we can go to your house and wait for you to get together?"

"You have to have it, you have to have it!" said the old man.

After saying that, he took several people to his home.

It was an ordinary farmhouse. As soon as we entered, a pretty young woman came out.

"Grandpa, who are these people?

"Don't be rude, go and get some water for the military masters."

The woman pouted, turned and entered the kitchen.

Farmers are not that particular. The main room usually has a square table and four narrow benches.

Ying Siji didn't mind the others, so he pulled out the narrow stool and sat down.

However, Pei Liang glanced at a small piece of oil stain on the side of the table edge, because it was on the table edge and could easily be missed if he cleaned it all up.

Pei Liang took a breath, which might be difficult for most people to notice, but as a cook, she could even tell the order of ingredients, heat, and preparation of a dish just by smell. Her sense of smell was so sharp and precise that ordinary people could not match it.

She can even tell which dishes are on the table through the smell lingering in the air.

After a while, the old man's granddaughter came out with several bowls of water. They were ordinary thick bowls with even some small holes on them.

When the woman placed the water in front of Ying Siji's table, she glanced at several men with handsome faces, tall and straight postures, and a chilling air about them.

A blush flashed across his face, and he was about to speak when he heard the beautiful woman next to him speak.

He said: "The girl's hair is really nice, thick black, smooth and oily, but do you have any unique ways to care for it?"

The woman's attitude towards Pei Liang was far less enthusiastic than that of the Four Seasons, but she was happy to be praised like this by a beautiful person of the same sex.

Then he touched his hair and said with some satisfaction: "People in the country don't have any maintenance. It's just a hair you can see. It's natural."

Pei Liang showed envy: "Can you come closer and let me have a look?"

The woman could not refuse, so she came to Pei Liang and lowered her head.

Pei Liang reached out and plucked it, and saw a red hairpin hidden in the woman's bun.

The surface of the rope is smooth, the texture is flexible, and it exudes soft light. If you look closely, you can see that it is woven with extremely fine gold threads.

This kind of thing is absolutely impossible for a farm girl to afford.

And no matter how clean the surroundings are and no flaws are left, the woman and the old man are indeed dressed in coarse linen and have rough hands and feet.
