ACT019: Corpse Worm

When everyone followed the sound to the stern cargo warehouse, it was already in a mess. A big hole was broken in the bulkhead on the left, and two dwarf mercenaries were lying in a pool of blood, one with its head and one was dying. Seeing Scardo arrive, the dwarf with a scattered air struggling to raise his deformed arm to the other party and said in a vague voice.

"It's Poly, that dog... the puppy... sneak attack..."

Before he finished speaking, the other party's trembling arm fell down and there was no more noise. Scaldo's six subordinates were placed here, and in a blink of an eye, he lost five of them, and the other one was most likely the "traitor" who killed them, which made Scaldo feel that there was an uncontrollable anger in his heart that needed to be vented.

"Everyone follows me, be sure to catch that mistress. If he dares to resist...Ge·kill·do·resolution!"

Nothing is more intolerable than shameless betrayal. The dwarves present were already angry and wanted to find the traitor to eat his flesh and blood immediately! Anyway, the other party is not the owner of the chess piece, and as long as the 13 dwarf mercenaries do not give the other party a chance to attack, it is still very easy to kill him. Therefore, Scardo hopes that neither Wies nor Kabbal will take action, and let their security team "clean up the portal" by themselves.

However, when the murderous dwarf mercenaries ran outside along the broken hole, they saw the scene where Ling Lan had knocked the traitor over the ground. Ling Lan, who didn't look strong, just stepped on a dwarf who was good at power on the ground with one foot and couldn't move. The scene was full of a strong sense of incongruity no matter how you looked at it.

The dwarf mercenaries were stunned for a while, and after they came to their senses, they rushed up and tied the traitor Poli with iron chains into an "iron dumpling". During this process, the other party struggled hard, and kept making beast-like roars in their mouths. The dwarfs found that his power suddenly increased a lot, so that two or three people could not hold one of his hands. Finally, with the help of Ling Lan and Weis, they tied the other party up.

"Is this guy possessed evil? Where did he get such great strength?"

After dealing with Poly and dragging him back to the warehouse of the Agile Number, the dwarves were all exhausted. One of them even kicked Poly, the traitor, angrily, but the other party opened his mouth and bit it like a mad dog. His "abnormal" situation made Weiss and others feel a little confused.

"Old kid, this guy was not controlled by some evil magic, right?"

"The situation is quite similar, but I don't feel any signs of having been shot on him."

Kabbala sensed the distribution of magic elements around the opponent's body, and found no signs of "flow reorganization". This means that either no one casts the spell, or the person casts the spell is a "super big shot". After the spell is completed, even the traces can be smoothed out. At this time, the sharp-eyed Wies noticed that the opponent's "collar" seemed a bit unnatural.

"By the way...you see if there is something on his neck?"

A light came from the dwarf beside him. Weiss squatted beside the dwarf Poly and shone with light. He found that the shadow on the other party's neck was not a collar at all, but a few fleshy gray tentacles that were tightly wrapped around his neck. It seemed that the light could be sensed. The thing squirmed and contracted downwards, and he saw that the person had goosebumps falling.

Wies' discovery gave a new breakthrough in this strange incident. Everyone tried a lot to fix the other party's limbs in the shape of "big" on the steel floor of the cargo hold, and then removed the armor behind him. Scardo saw something moving under the other party's vest, and reached out to tear it apart. Everyone present immediately took a breath of air.

I saw a strange-shaped huge bug lying on the back of the dwarf Poly, which looked a bit like a "meat crab" with a long tail. The back of the insect body had a large number of irregularly arranged gray-purple single eyes, which looked very disgusting.

There were a large number of tentacles on both sides of the creature's body, all of which were tightly entangled in the dwarf, and some even penetrated into the flesh. This terrifying discovery made everyone present feel creepy, and they all subconsciously reached out to touch their backs, fearing that such a disgusting bug would grow on their backs.

"Old kid, you are the one with the most extensive knowledge here. Do you know this thing?"

"It looks familiar, but I can't remember it for a while..."

Looking down at the monster insect, Kabbal tried hard to search for the things related to it in his memory, but perhaps because he was old and the years he came into contact with this thing were too long apart. Kabbal racked his brains and couldn't come up with the name of this thing. However, after carefully observing the bug, Weiss said in a positive tone.

"I think I know this thing."

"Do you know? That's great, or the brains of young people are good, unlike some old people, which are neither good nor useful." Scardo, who has regarded Tukabala's groove as a living habit, glanced at a green bald head beside him with contempt, and then signaled to Vis to speak before the other party was about to have an attack.

"This thing was seen in high-risk biology classes when I was in school. The time interval was not long, so I still had the impression. This creature is called the 'Corpse', and it is the lowest-frequency one of the 17 known 'disaster-level' creatures. It has the ability to parasitize and control creatures. I think the reason why Poly attacked his teammates was because he was under its control."

"Strange, why don't I remember that the teacher talked about this when I went to school?" Kabbal asked in confusion.

"Because it's an elective course, and it's not counted for credits." Thinking of the scene of "two or three kittens" in class, Weis shrugged helplessly.

"Then I'll just pull this damn thing off Poly's back now."

"Don't!"

Seeing Scaldo roaringly and was about to tear up the zombie, Weis hurriedly stopped his behavior. He is now very glad that he had heard such an unpopular class because he was bored, and the teacher who taught was not lazy to deal with it because there were few students in the classroom. Therefore, Weis is still very clear about some of the key points of treatment for the zombie bent over.

The reason why this insect can control organisms is due to its special body. Adult zombies have many slender tentacles on their abdomen. The tops of these tentacles are very sharp and can easily drill through the flesh, and then drill holes in the spine with secreted acid, which erodes the host's spinal nerves and then seize control of the other person's body.

Originally, the corpse-worms could not be able to lean on them with the dwarf's full-covered armor, but this dwarf mercenary named Poly did not like to wear helmets and neck protection because of his "big head and thick neck". As long as he was not in the middle of fighting, the helmets would always be pushed to the back and exposed the entire neck.

Before the incident, Poly was looking for the navigation log of the Agility. Scardo was searching during the day and did not find it in the captain's safe, so he arranged for Poly and another dwarf to continue searching. Perhaps it was during this search for the navigation log that Poly was attacked by a corpse lurking in the dark.

To remove the zombie on Poly's back, a surgeon must use professional methods. If Scaldo is allowed to pull it hard, he will also destroy Poly's spinal nerves while pulling off the insects. Many victims in history have been anxious because of their companions around him, resulting in high-level paraplegia and even death on the spot. In desperation, Scaldo could only follow Wies' advice and ask the medical soldiers to inject anesthetics into both the people and the insects, which made them dizzy and brought them back to the Enterprise.

At this point, all the staff are facing a dilemma. Although they found the missing Agility in the Principality of Nadal, they also lost 6 mercenaries and 4 airship technicians. If they retreat now, at least two seriously injured people may be saved, but the mission of finding the Engineering Group and the Voyager will be forced to fail. This frustration made the dwarf mercenaries feel very unwilling.

However, this was not an unacceptable result for Weiss, because Rikabala had already promised him privately that no matter whether the search and rescue operation was successful or not, he would fulfill his promise afterwards and ask the trading company to help him get a Ramses ID card.

The city, which is famous for its "freedom", is very happy to issue "Honor Citizen Certificate" to various celebrities to increase their glory and does not exclude dual nationality. As long as it is stated that Weis is a future newcomer with the "Black King", the trading company will definitely be willing to help make friends with this.

"Wright, I just heard from Master Wakeng that we are going back now."

"Oh, have they decided?"

Seeing Ling Lan coming to inform him, Weiss knew that Kabbalah and the others had made a decision. The search and rescue team, which was already in short supply, lost nearly a quarter of it at once. If they had to insist on continuing, no one could guarantee whether they would follow the footsteps of the previous search and rescue teams. Now, "disaster-level" corpse worms have been found in the local area, so it is even more important to pass this major news in time.

"We need to bring back the news of the zombie immediately. You must know that all creatures that can be called "disaster level" are not ordinary people. There have been four outbreaks in history, and none of them have died less than 10 million people. If the fifth outbreak is happening here, then we have the obligation to remind other countries to be prepared."

In fact, Weiss didn't dare to tell Ling Lan now that they might have been "infected". The corpse worms will spread a special plague that can greatly weaken the vitality of other organisms so that they can easily parasitize themselves. However, this plague will also cause the infected person's body to ulcerate at a high speed, and even the owner of the chess piece cannot be immune to this terrible germ. The green jelly-like corpses on the alert number are proof.

"Speaking of this, what are your plans after Ling Lan returns? Do you continue your journey?"

"Well, I plan to go to Xiyanzhou next. I heard that there are many well-known warriors there."

"That's better than us..."

Weiss was about to invite Ling Lan again, but maybe there was a fucking thing called "Fate" in the dark that hadn't played with him enough, so as soon as he was halfway through this sentence, the sharp and harsh alarm interrupted him "again".
